| Hawks in my Yard Okay I am getting mad! I live semi in a country like area. I have 2 acres fenced in and my two Yorkies love to run in the yard. I never let them out without me with them. Some days it is hard to catch them or round them up to come in. But I never leave the yard before I have them in. This past Friday it was so nice here almost 70 and I got off work early to go home and let them go outside to enjoy some nice FL weather finally. I took them out and they actually stayed around me unlike the running they normally do. All a of a sudden I seen the shawdow of a large bird flying over and my first thought was please don't run. Luckly they were right at my feet and I reached down and grabbed them and took them to the porch and shut door. I come back outside to look around to see what kind of bird it was and it was a hawk. He stayed across street in the tree and watch all three of us (like a hawk, LOL). I went back on porch and sat there watching him and soon there were other birds in my yard (cow birds is what I call them) big white field birds that hand out in pastures, the hawk swooped down on them and then moved to another tree in my yard. I went outside to get some rocks and throw at it and flew off to another tree behind me so I went back to the porch. Shortly I started hearing him swaking on my back fence. I ran back there to run him off and he flew away again. He is not gone. He has been on my fence everyday, so now I will not let my two out. I am so afraid but yet mad cause I cannot let them go out side and run like they like to do. Does anyone else have this problem and what can I do? |

| I live in the city and we have a hawk that comes around and sits in a tree on the other side of my fence...I never let my pups go out without me even tho our yard is fenced in. The darness thing is tho that hawk will swake like crazy everytime he comes around so I know when he is close and I make the kids go in...They say shinny objects hanging in your trees will keep them away. I love wind chimes so I have a few hanging on my porch and off my fence that are real shinny...My neighbor say she see him on her fence all the time and they have a lil jack russell...I have never seen him on my fence so maybe the shinny wind chimes work

Tie bright metallic objects around the pen to confuse and startle hawks. Objects such as aluminum pie plates, shiny pieces of foil, and reflective tape will all help to keep hawks away. Put up a life size plastic owl on the hen house. Make a scarecrow or in this case a scare"hawk". Read the article telling how to make a scarecrow that is listed under resources. It is necessary to move the scarecrow or plastic owls every week or two, so the hawks won't lose fear of it Read more: How to Protect Chickens from Hawks | eHow.com How to Protect Chickens from Hawks | eHow.com

| Okay I haven't done any of the shinny things yet, cause really I am scared to let my dogs out reguardless. I am ging to dp some of the suggestions this week, but I am afraid that hawk is still somewhere watching. They have not been back outside since this beast has been around. I hear him and see him everyday somewhere watching. Saturday I was sitting on the porch with my two and that monster flew across the front of my yard and was within 3 feet off the ground. I went in and got my high power BB gun that I bought and followed around the yard. He landed on the back fence and I shot at the fence didn't fase him. Then I shot again and he flew off up to another tree too high up for me to shoot again and watched me. I knowe he is waiting on my dogs. I am only shooting this BB gun to hopefully run him off not to kill him. But I swear this is one bird I wish was dead. |

I have another problem now...those damn poison toad frogs...I found 2 over the weekend in my back yard...Yikes again...I cut there heads off and thru them over my fence LOL and I didn't even feel bad

My furkids Donating Member | I took the girls for a walk one day and stopped off to visit my neighbor. We live in a thickly settled area. We sat on her lawn, I saw something flying above my me when I looked it was a hawk! I pulled both girls close to me...They NEVER go out without me. My parents will doggy sit for me from time to time. She took them out to play and all of a sudden....a hawk was flying over her...well, needless to say they weren't out playing for very long. We also have coyotes in are area...gotta watch for them too!

| We have a hedge (short so we can see the water) and a fence. I alway look out to see where the gator is and of course never have her out without me. Gators will not get through the plantings and the fence.. an easier fix than hawks!!!!

| The bad thing about staying with the dogs, somedays they just take off running. And as a Yorkie owner eveyone here probably knows how fast them little legs can run. So it is difficult to keep up with somedays. I was so thankful the one day when that beast swooped around us my two yorkies where right at my feet. Almost as if they sense something wrong before I did. |

| Oh they can make your baby very sick and even kill them...I had let everyone out one last time before bed Friday night around 930pm, hubby and I were standing there talking and all of a sudden I noticed all 3, my 2 yorkies and one of my cats were all sitting in a circle, as I was walking up to see what they were doing...Harley jumped in the circle and than jumped back I knew they had something and I freaked when I seen what it was...I grab both dogs and hubby got the kitty...thank god none of them touch it...I went back out and found it and cut its nasty little head off and thru it over my fence...and than Saturday evening I found another one and did the same to that one didn't even feel bad about it LOL.
