What is your morning routine? Like 90% of the population, I resolved this new year to be healthier. One of the things I'd like to do is get into a healthier morning routine. I work from home a lot, so usually what I do is stumble out of bed, grab a diet soda out of the fridge, and then play video games until I'm sufficiently alert to start working. I've managed to switch the diet soda out for tea/coffee, but what do people do while they are still waking up? Eating is usually the last thing I want to do when I wake up, but I am making myself eat a little watermelon (even that is an effort). I tried taking Thor out for a walk first thing, but he is definitely not a morning dog. He likes to get his twelve hours in. I don't like reading the news, because it's always depressing, and I feel like that's a terrible way to start the day. Sometimes I stretch, but I need something where I can simulatenously consume the massive amounts of caffeine I need to be minimally coherent. Any ideas?? :coffee_n_ |
Sorry...no help either. Let the pups out, grab a coffee, and then Mario Kart for about a half before starting to work. Oh well, maybe someone else will have some great input for you..... |

Personally, it's get up, eat right away, shower, skin care routine, get dressed, grab the coffee that I put on earlier, and out the door to work. About 45 minutes total. |
Usually something like: Monday - Thursday: Roll out of bed at 6:45. Feed pup, take her out, and crate her. Get dressed. Throw stuff in backback including garbage food for lunch. Maybe try and finish some homework. Leave by 7:15 diet soda in hand to get me through the morning. Friday - Sunday: Sleep til anywhere from 9-12. Roll out of bed. Go on the computer and throw some food at the pup. Do nothing for as long as possible. Easier to eat my sugary cereal on these days. |
The alarm rings at 4:15 am...... Out of bed by 4:30. .....Let dogs out and give them breakfast..... Shower, blow-dry & moisturizer...... put hair up & put on makeup..... get dressed...... hit the kitchen, pour already made coffee....... say good-bye to hubby and hit the road. |
Mmm, forgot about the shower. I shower at night to unwind, but it wakes me up in the morning too. Maybe I can get a sippy cup and take my coffee in there with me. :) |

I roll out at 6 and usually have to wake lazy-bones up and carry her outside, because she is not a morning dog, either. Then I feed her. Next, I grab my milk and vitamins (don't drink coffee) and proceed to get ready and leave by usually 7:40, sometimes earlier. |
When the alarm goes off I get up and start getting ready- shower, hair, makeup, dressed, etc. THEN I go make the dogs get up- they prefer to sleep late- I attempt to feed them- if I have to be out of the house early they don't always eat. Then I make some coffee to take with me and get my bag ready. Then I get the dogs bag ready- my mom stops by after lunch and takes them to her house for "free doggy daycare" :p Then I leave. YEAH! Its terrible, I never get eating in. |
Hmm wake up, go and open doggie door so the little ones can go out if they want to. Check newspaper online, check the obit column, make sure my name isn't there, if it isn't I know I am still alive so I go grab a cup of coffee. After all that exercise I go lay down and watch TV for a little while:) |
Possible Morning Routine Starters -- Read your Bible if so inclined. Many "read the Bible in a year" plans you can follow online or do as a group. --Read Yorketalk. --Read some in a book on Kindle (or you could use a real book). --Play word games on Kindle -- many are free! (Or just do crosswords, jumble, etc). --Answer some emails. --Catch up on Facebook. --Walk, jog, morning exercises. --Watch a TIVO'd sitcom from night before. FF thru commercials, you can condense it to @ 16 minutes! Don't like sitcoms? Try Rachel Ray, a mystery or one of the million crime shows offered. Or you could watch morning exercise shows. ;) --Pay some bills. --Crochet, knit, needlepoint? --Write in your journal. I did this religiously for a year and a half then suddenly stopped. Not sure why as it was very cathartic. --Start something in the crock pot for lunch or dinner. |
6am-7am I wake up to my girl in my face growling(she has to go potty!). Start coffe pot and take her out. After about 5-10 minutes, depending how hard headed she is that morning, I get her back in the house. Then she takes me by my leash to the kitchen to fix her breakfast, which I endure alot of her "micro-managing", watching my every move and all...I think you know what I mean. She is constantly staring at me. I can't even sip my coffee "on the job" without a look like "what in the $#%^ do you think you're doing, feed me." I give my boss her food then it's off to her little kids. They are sitting at my bedroom door with the same looks like their momma, they learn so well! After feeding the "romper room children" I finally get to sit down and enjoy my coffee...nope, here comes the boss because, after all that food now she has to poop. Do you believe sometimes I have to wipe her hiny too? Man, if I only had it made like that...............and that is just the start of my day. |
Hubby brings me cuppa tea in bed, get up make our breakfast, weetbix and fruit, dishes, beds,or what ever else needs doing, brush George and wash the sleepy dust out of his eyes, shower for me, washing on the line out the door to work at 9am or the abouts, gym is always in the evenings. I'm not a morning person, weekends a different story:p |
Recently, Monday-Friday morning I've been waking up around 9 (I'm in college, classes don't start 'til later! ;)). I go to the bathroom, then I take Jackson outside. Sometimes I crawl back into bed for another 30 minutes with Jackson. He's not really a morning dog either. Once I get up, I eat my bowl of cereal and watch Boy Meets World (haha - I DVR them). Then I start up the Wii Fit to get myself movin'. So I do about 30 mins of that in the AM. And lately, I've been doing 10-15 minutes of the elliptical in the morning too. I take my showers at night but do my hair in the mornings. Around 11:00am, I head out of the house and do all my dogwalking for the day, bring Jackson back home (if I had him w/ me) and then off to school Tues & Thurs anyways. |
-Up @ 5 a.m., cuddle with Sophie for about 2 minutes. -Carry Sophie to pee pad for pee and poop -Feed Sophie -Put coffee on -Shower -Wake up teen -Make cup of coffee -Make-up on -Wake 7-year-old -Get her breakfast -Another cup of coffee -Iron -Blowdry and fix hair -Fix 7-year olds-hair -Dress -Make lunch -Check YT -Get everything together -Make cup of coffee to go Out the door @ 7 a.m. |
I wake up around 7 or so, open the doggie door and let the crew outside, start the coffee, watch the news, read the paper, check email while making breakfast...usually bacon and eggs of some sort, feed the crew, make bed, shower and get dressed, make second pot of coffee to drink while we decide what we want to do or where we want to go for the day. Retired life is rough I tell ya! |

That's a really good idea! Cooking is something I can do without being fully awake. I wake up late too, so I could even run to the grocery store. And then I have something healthy to eat later. |

My morning routine: 7:00am = alarm goes off 7:15am = eventually get out of bed and wake Poppy up 7:20am = go downstairs to let Poppy out and make her breakfast 7:30am = eat cookies/chocolate bar and drink a glass of milk 7:35am = lie about in bed with Poppy looking at Facebook on my phone 7:50am = shower and get dressed 8:40am = leave for work Same thing every morning. |
Wow, you lucky folks: 5:15 alarm goes off 5:30 roll out of bed, do crunches and push-ups to get blood started 5:35 try to wake up the little prince, who proceeds to slowly stand and strech, yawn, lay back down, roll over, curl up, stand and strech, then decide mornings aren't worth the effort and tries to hide under my pillows. 5:40 pick the little man out from behind the pillows and take him outside, if I don't physically place him outside, he'll just lay down on the floor next to the bed. He is such a lazy pants 5:50 back inside and eat my breakfast (usually cereal) and make my lunch for the day 6:00 play fetch to wake up the little doggy and to try to burn up some of his energy 6:30 put food down for the furries, clean the litter box, make sure the gate is properly set up so the pup cant get to the "kitty crunchies" and let the pup out again to make sure he got all the tinkles out the first time. 6:50 out the door and on my way to work. |
I often wondered what others do in their morning routine :p My alarm is set for 6, but I'm normally awake by 5:45....if it's a morning that Dh didn't have work the night before I try not to move around too much because Bijou and Barley start jumping on the bed to wake us up and go out. I open my bedroom door and they run to Garrett's bed (Great Pyrenees so the bedroom's too hot for him) Then they all go outside, while I get them fresh water and food. Once they are done I can shower, then I have to let them outside again. If DH is home we make his coffee and the babies run in to wake him up. I do make-up then as I dry my hair, Bijou loves playing fetch (I started it with her as a tiny, so she wouldn't be afraid of the hairdryer) Barley goes back to bed...he is not a morning doggy at all. I brush Bijou's teeth as I'm brushing mine...she loves being part of my routine....Barley refuses to get out of bed for it, so occasionally I go in to him and brush them. Lastly, they get to go outside one more time, while I make my breakfast and coffee to go for the commute. I normally leave by 7:30......I really need to start getting up at 5:30 and go for a run, but I love sleeping in so much I just can't bring myself to it :D |

I started my day with a big cup of coffee and checking Yorkietalk of course! |
Here's mine now that I'm in an office: 6:00 am - alarm goes off 6:00 to 6:30 - hit snooze button 6:30 - get up, let the dogs out, take vitamins, drink water, feed the dogs. 6:45 - Shower, dry hair, curl hair, spray hair, do make-up; brush teeth, etc 8:00 - Head out the door; drop my son off at school 8:15 - Tim Horton's drive thru for a large butter-caramel coffee. 8:30 - Arrive at work :) |
I get up, take the furbabies out to potty, feed them, turn on news to check for traffic, drink my Zija, get in the shower, get ready for work, eat breakfast, make my lunch for the day, take the pups out for a bit, hug the pups, gate them in the bathroom, give them their treat, leave for work. |
Today I woke up, checked YT, then took thirty minutes to chop veggies and put them in the oven. It worked out nicely. I'm awake now, more or less. :) |
I am a stay at home mom so I first say a prayer, make my coffee, if there are any dishes left from the night before I do them. Then I help my daughter get ready for school. All while I do this Im drinking my coffee. Then I watch the news and 700 club |
From what I understand (I wouldn't personally know LOL) is that if you exercise in the morning then you need less caffeine. BOTH of those things would be healthier for you. I however, drink my 2 cups of coffee and sit on the couch until I wake up, that is at least an hour on weekends. Maybe you should switch your video games to something like Wii games or something where you are up and moving doing mindless exercises until you feel awake enough to move? I really need to start getting up at 530am and doing the elliptical for 20-30 mins each morning!!! I want to start doing that... I wish my wants would win out over the warm bed and cuddly pups! |
I feel great when I exercise in the morning. I'm relaxed, energized, and level-headed. That lasts for about an hour, and then I struggle not to drop into a coma. Morning exercise is not for me, unfortunately. |
