I want it to look like this. I made an appt at a japanese salon and they quoted me $100 for cut and perm. Fair price? How much should I tip?

ETA this is a no frills salon, it is not a spa type place.

Very cute look. Been a million years since I have gotten a perm -- my hair has taken a strange "curly-when-&-where-it-wants-to" stage these past years. :confused: In fact the last lady that did my hair is talking about using a perm straightener next visit. But I did a quick google & looked at just this one site: Hair Styles | Prices | Bangz Hair Salon | Aveda Salon | Corrective Color, Perms, Highlight | San Antonio, TX Seems $100 for a perm & cut is right in line with this one, in fact they charge that for perm alone. The color prices listed are about what I pay here so I think it is a medium-priced salon.

Wow -- I just realized that with perm straighener, color, highlights, cut, and style....I may have to get a side job just to finance my hair! :eek:

Are you going to show us a picture? What I want to know is why everyone with curly hair is getting it straightened, and everyone with straight hair is curling it?

Wow $425+ for Keratin straightening! :eek:

Last time I got a perm was about 10 years ago. I came out ok, the stylist cut my hair too short to begin with, and well, it looked better once it started to grow out.

This time I am going to emphasize I want a soft wavy perm, not curly. How much do you think I should tip?

I think you should get it cut after they perm it, and not all stylists do that. I'd wait and see if I liked it. I thought 20% was average, but I don't know.

If that works for you, I may try it. I always wanted wavy hair. I think I'm related to Deb though. My once pin straight hair now does the "curly-when-&-where-it-wants-to" thing now. I hate straightening it everyday(because it dries out my hair), I hate curling it (same), and I hate not doing anything to it (because I look like a lion).

I usually tip 15% unless the person doing your hair is the owner ~ then I don't tip ;)

I know I'm an old bag and shouldn't be giving beauty advice, but I have the same problem as you. Have you tried the new velcro hot rollers? I don't think they are as drying as curling irons or straigteners, and they leave your hair looking more conditioned and smooth. I use really big ones, so the curl is not tight. Some of the new models heat up in 3-5 minutes.

Seriously, can't wait to see it. Many moons ago, I use to wear a curly perm, easiest hair I ever had because mine is poker straight. Not one bit of life to it.

That's what I always thought too, if the owner then you don't tip. Other stylists have to rent a chair so you would have tip them, but the owner obviously doesn't rent from themselves. I thought this about groomers as well (never taken Uni to the groomers though) but someone here told me no, owners always appreciate tips as well. oops.

Yes, that is Taylor, however I have never seen her show and never heard her music, but know I like this look better than her current walking corpse look, however much I love me a good corpse, it just doesn't really do anything for her.

Oh yea, my appt isn't until next thurs! This stylist is always booked up, that's always a good sign. It's at 10am, then afterwards I can walk over to the japanese market and demand they sell me some uni! No maybe not, after spending $100 plus tip, I think I won't be able to eat for a week. :( Hopefully I'll look really cute though.

I'm getting the headlight fixed that my dad broke. It's been broken since Aug. Kaji on the other hand is my stubborn stubborn yorkie. He won't drink water and he has crystals again.

I think that hair style will look great on you!! And $100 sounds GREAT! I'm thinking of doing the keratin straightener on my hair, my mom owns a salon so I'd get it for free (except I tip the stylist that does it :))

People always assume that because you're an owner, you have a lot of money, or don't need a tip and that's not correct. My mom owns a salon but she does facials, wax, etc... sometimes she can't even pay herself for the week because she needs to make payroll first. They don't always so well in this economy. So those tips really come in handy. I always tip, owner or not, even Jackson's mobile groomer.

I hate her corpse look too, and the really awful hair extensions. Her cool hairstyle in the picture you posted made me unsure it was her because I don't remember her ever looking that good.

I named Uni after my favorite food in the world. It means sea urchin and is actually the roe of the sea urchin. Before and after pic. I'm totally not kidding either. I am so hungry now after going on google to get these pics.

Imagine the softness of garlic butter melting in your mouth, but it's cold and tastes like peanut butter, sweet and nutty. :drool:
