| I need him to drink more water. A little background: Kaji started dribbling urine again, like he did 4 months ago. I took him in to the vets, they ruled out UTI. Dr says Kaji has crystals in his urine again, but a different type. His urine is also concentrated, which means my little guy isn't drinking enough water. I'm thinking of switching how he gets his water from a bowl to one of those bottle feeders (like this:PETCO Water Bottles for Small Animals at PETCO) since it's something that was once suggested by a YTer. My only concern with that is that he won't want to drink from it. I like the idea of it as it seems more sanitary than the water bowl. No more wet mustache! Aside from that, what else can I do to get him to drink more water? The vet also suggested adding wet food to his meals, or soaking his food. He won't touch soaked kibble, I tried that before. On a good note, Kaji is finally down to the 7 lb range. His knees don't pop as much as they use to, which I know makes both of us really happy!

| I would try the Honest Kitchen. You can e-mail them for some samples. The food comes powdered and you hydrate it. It doesn't take any water out of their system for digestion. |

| I tried to write it down, but she talked too fast. They're different from the last time he had crystals. In Aug, he had crystals that would form in basic pee. This time his urine is acidic. There is not white blood cells, and no abnormal bacteria in his pee. During the day, I'm not sure. I leave out about 10 oz of water for him. Sometimes it's gone, sometimes it's still there when I get home from work. Sometimes, he waits till the end of the day to drink up all the water.

| Does he like ice? Something I started a long time ago with mine to get her to drink more water is to add crushed ice in her water. She comes running when she hears me getting it for her. Just a suggestion.

| Ten oz. is plenty. Could give canned. The type of crystal is important b/c that will dictate the ingredients in his food. It sounds like he has oxalates, so he may need low oxalate food.

| Ice is a good idea sometimes, letting the dog lick it. Using a syringe as well. I have tried those two in the past, thinking my girl wasn't drinking enough water. I found the odd time that she didn't drink any water at all through out a whole day. Well I found the perfect cure. It started when she was younger. We would play outside. I had water dish full of fresh water nearby, along the course of our play. I would toss her favorite toy and she would bring it back for her favorite treat, waiting for her toy to get tossed again. After three or four tosses, I'd say okay, lets drink. Off to the water dish we would go and she would drink before more play time. Well, now adays, we are not outside tossing toys around because it is winter and wet. We play inside more. Usually we have play sessions a few times a day anyway. I get her running and jumping and then I tell her okay drink and she iwll go to her water dish and take a nice long drink. I find that the exercise while playing, fetching her toys, having cookies and playing a short game of tug encourages her to drink, basically because it makes her thirty when she exerts energy. Plus she has lots of fun and is more bonding bonus for us. Oh sometimes she thinks she doesn't want to drink so I go with her to her dish of water and put my finger in it and to her mouth. She licks it off and then I encourage her to drink on her own. Usually she will. If not, we play more. I get her skineez squirrel and sit on my legs on the floor, turning the squirrel around my body so she can chase it. After a few rounds she just stops to drink on her own. Exertion is the trick I think, to encourage your dog to drink more water. Lastly, I always have a dish of water for her outside, in a plastic container, especially since it is winter. Wouldn't want her tongue to stick to the side of a frozen metal dish, right? Well went we are out for potty, she passes the outside water dish on her way back into the house. More often than not she will stop and take a nice long drink. Makes me happy because I was worried for her when I first noticed she wasn't drinking what I thought was enough water. She isn't to hip on the syringe and ice is only of interest on the hottest of summer days, so it seems. More play time may help. Vigorous play time. So the dog actually pants a bit. Then the dog will most likely drink. |

| I know there's another one that is very similar. I think it's called Addiciton or something close. I only mention that because I know that it takes lots of water to break down the kibbles and you said that he won't eat pre-soaked kibble. Or, you could try a pre-made raw (or DIY raw). Since the meat is inclusive of water, it should help as well. |

| When we were trying to get our cat to drink water the vet suggested boiling chicken in a pot of water and then giving her the liquid. Do not add anything to the pot except the chicken. We just used the boiled chicken to make chicken salad and stuff after- you could probably feed a little bit of it to the dogs. She drank a TON of this stuff and she never liked to drink at all. You might consider asking the vet if this is okay.

| Probably- it was pretty watered down already, so if you add too little he might not taste it- but if he can smell it, it might entice him to drink.
