I'm all for forgiveness and redemption, but I'm also about practicality. There are plenty of ways for Vick to be a friends to animals without owning one. For one thing, he could donate some of his millions to rehabilitating dogs rescued from fighting. He could do PSAs against dog fighting. He can volunteer. Then, in fifteen years, maybe he should be allowed to have a dog.

Wow! No one holds back do they?

I for one don't think Michael Vick should be "banned for life" from ever having a dog again.

I live in the Philadelphia area and see what he is doing to make things right. He speaks at schools to young kids and works with the SPCA to educate kids about dog fighting.

When you're raised one way, it takes something like a prison term and losing what you care about most to make you see that what you thought was no big thing is wrong. He as learned his lesson and should be given another chance.

They don't make people that have had their children taken away get sterilized. Although maybe they should.

Gotta give people a second chance.

It's not an exact parallel, but people can lose custody of their children. I'm all for giving people second chances. I'm also all for protecting those who can't protect themselves. At least children can grow up and vocalize about how they were treated. Animals cannot.

Who can look into Michael Vick's heart and soul and know if he is truly rehabilitated and he could be trusted "behind closed doors".

I believe in giving people second chances, but not at the expense of helpless. Community service at the animal shelter and perhaps hefty donations to the facility that took the most psychologically scarred of the dogs to rehabilitate would suffice. Let him PROVE himself before putting another innocent into harms way.

Too true about the cruelty laws. And, GREAT idea on the PSAs etcetera.

Despite the fact that so many people have lost respect for him, there are still many people who might listen to anti-dog fighting ads by him.

I think this is so true, I'm sure he could be such a valuable asset in changing people's minds about this horrible activity, especially, if he were truly sincere.

I think the part in bold is what has everyone concerned. IS he truly sincere? Or is this just another part of the PR machine designed to improve his public image?

Would he be kind to a dog ~ or would he abuse a dog, as he did so many times in the past?

Michael Vick may be a totally new person, who knows? At the same time, some actions have long-term, or even permanent consequences. As a felon, he can't vote, no matter what wonderful things he may do in the future. Sometimes you have to live with your mistakes.

I agree...words are cheap. I for one am sick of Michael Vick. The only thing he has worried about from day one is that he got caught...and how he was going to rehabilitate his image AND make money playing football.

So, he got himself back into the game of football and is working on paying his bills.

NOW he wants a dog??? Oh please...and using his kids as an excuse?? UGH Let him go to a shelter and volunteer and SHOW US how much he really CARES about dogs. BLAH

Electrocuted, shocked, starved, drowned , made to suffer with open wounds cause not one person with one ounce of compassion would put the poor baby out of it's misery, but ,hey, yea he would make a great owner? :mad:
People with no compassion don't change ..If you don't have compassion you can't grow it :mad: I think anyone who would give him an animal any animal is a moron. He is doing public announcements and talking in schools cause that is what he has to do not how he really feels, there is a difference.. JMO

Exactly! When that creep starts doing things for dogs of his own volition, I MIGHT buy it; but even then I would always wonder. I believe he showed what kind of person he is when he abused those poor dogs so badly. I don't give a darn about culture. I have known plenty of people who came from difficult backgrounds who did not abuse animals.

Thank you! I feel the SAME way!

HE** NO!....he should never be allowed to own another animal! I'm all for 2nd chances....but in some cases people don't deserve it. & this is a perfect example of that.

I feel that if you didn't have love & appreciation for animals the 1st 20 to 30 something years of your life how the heck do you expect to have it now all of a sudden? ....what?... because you spent a little time in jail, u come out born again & clean?...Get out of here! :mad:

He should just worry about taking care of his kids because he'll never be blessed to feel the love an animal gives again!


I know I sound a bit harsh, but this "Man" REALLY boils my blood. :mad:

To me, that'd be like giving a child molester who claims he's rehabilitated a child to adopt. Nonsense, and it shouldn't happen.
