Micheal Vick wants another dog... This makes me really uncomfortable, on so many levels :(. Does a person really heal this fast from once being a severe abuser??? ARTICLE link {START ARTICLE} Michael Vick Wants Another Dog After serving 18 months in prison for hosting an underground dogfighting ring, Michael Vick says he wants another dog! He said in a recent interview: "I would love to get another dog in the future. I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process. I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love and my passion for animals; I think it would be outstanding." We appreciate Vick's remorse for his DESPICABLE actions, but it seems like maybe he just wants to get a dog so people forget about what he did. Fortunately, it doesn't seem like he is ALLOWED to get a dog, as he continues saying: "If I ever have the opportunity again I will never take it for granted. I miss having a dog right now. I wish I could. My daughters miss having one, and that's the hardest thing; telling them that we can't have one because of my actions." We believe people change and learn their lessons, but we also think Vick should just focus on the birds right now. The QB is flying high as he has lead the Eagles to a 9-4 season this year and is leading the league in pro-bowl voting. We'd hate to see this comeback story come down with another scandal and we'd REALLY HATE to see another dog get hurt in a dogfighting ring. What do U think? Is Michael Vick an old dog ready to learn new tricks or will he fall slip back into an old habit? {END ARTICLE} |
This was on the news this morning and I was shocked - does anyone honestly thing he can show love to animal after that horrible abuse ? He's using his kids as an excuse and if he does get a dog and wins - I feel very sorry for the dog - unless the man has done a complete turn around them maybe - just MAYBE he will prove to everyone he may have learned a big lesson from his disgusting dog fighting enterprise. |
His disgusting actions caused him to not be allowed to be the owner of a dog~he lost that priveledge by his own actions. There are those that said he served his time and believed he should have been allowed back into the NFL. This is also part of his punishment and it should stick. End of story! |
I somewhat agree, but he will be under the microscope for a long time. If he is allowed to get another dog, I have a feeling it will be treated real well. Naturally that is just my opinion, but I somewhat believe he has learned the hard way. It is also so high profile, he will have officials bisiting and checking on any dog. There are a lot of owners out there now that should not be allowed to have a dog, including puppymills and some others. Does he deserve another chance? |
Just my opinion...NO WAY!!!! He should NEVER be allowed to own another furkid!! I don't believe that he is able to see them as living, breathing, deserving little beings....his heart views them for a different purpose. Also, I don't agree that any animal should be used as his, "rehabilitation process". I think the thought of alllllllll of the innocent ones that he had a hand in abusing and/or killing should be as close as he gets to another furbaby. He can sit with those thoughts.... |
This topic came up on The View this morning, and Joy Behar said dogs all across America were signing up for witness relocation program. Her statment made me laugh at first then I began thinking about the dog chosen to be a part of his "rehabilitaion program". Is that fair for that poor pup? I don't think so. He had his chance to "show people that I genuinely care, and my love and my passion for animals" and to be outstanding. Instead, he loved them all the way to the graves in his backyard. He wants to have a dog in his life so bad, why don't he go spend some time with a few of the dogs that are still going through their own rehabilitation? Or how about the one that was ordered by the court to be too damaged to be ever be placed in a home and will spend it's life in the animal sanctuary. |
I came home from work this morning after working an 8 hr shift. My husband was watching the news in bed and i heard this news as my head hit the pillow. As tired as i was..i still had the strength to yell out from under the covers ......."He should have thought about his daughters BEFORE he did what he did". Personally i think everything is he doing nowadays is just an act. He has ruined his reputation and he's trying to get it back. |
He makes me sick, I think he is as evil as he always was. |

No way do I think he should be able to have a dog ever again! Not even a fish! To me, that's like a recovering alcoholic saying they can't wait to have a few drinks again to prove to people that they can handle it. :thumbdown |
I think anyone convicted of animal abuse, especially dog fighting, should lose their rights to own pet forever. If it is in their being to be so horribly cruel, a little jail time and fines is not going to change their heart. |
I have a hard time understanding how someone claims to genuinely care, and love, have a passion for animals could stand by and watch them be treated in this way not to mention PROFIT from it. But the almighty dollar can make people do horrible things. |

Who said he should get another pit bull. In the warly days, put bull fighting was common. Tosa's are revered in Japan, and still fight. In many spots of the world, dogs actually have to work for a living, catch their food, and live outside. Many old farms in Italy keep dogs like Carlo outside to fend for themselves and also to guard the property and livestock. In certain countries, a percentage of the population eat dogs. Yes, Vick was a dog fighter, and no doubt will be watched like a hawk if he ever is allowed to get another dog, pit of Yorkie. Looks like some are saying that people can't change for the better. Some can, some can't. Everyone has an opinion, and there will be differences. I am for giving him another chance. There are a lot more puppy mills that are worse than Vick, and I honestly believe most here know that, and most are supposedly regulated. Right. There are good people, bad people, good breeders, bad breeders, that is life. |
I think that what is implied here is that these pitbulls were caged outside in pens. They were not allowed human contact like a dog that was raised inside with a family. The poor dogs were strictly used for dog fighting...no love or interaction at all. |

:whew: I think this is the first time I've actually heard of animal protection laws working. I'm all for forgiveness and redemption, but I'm also about practicality. There are plenty of ways for Vick to be a friends to animals without owning one. For one thing, he could donate some of his millions to rehabilitating dogs rescued from fighting. He could do PSAs against dog fighting. He can volunteer. Then, in fifteen years, maybe he should be allowed to have a dog. |

Wow! No one holds back do they? I for one don't think Michael Vick should be "banned for life" from ever having a dog again. I live in the Philadelphia area and see what he is doing to make things right. He speaks at schools to young kids and works with the SPCA to educate kids about dog fighting. When you're raised one way, it takes something like a prison term and losing what you care about most to make you see that what you thought was no big thing is wrong. He as learned his lesson and should be given another chance. They don't make people that have had their children taken away get sterilized. Although maybe they should. Gotta give people a second chance. |
It's not an exact parallel, but people can lose custody of their children. I'm all for giving people second chances. I'm also all for protecting those who can't protect themselves. At least children can grow up and vocalize about how they were treated. Animals cannot. |
Some children are never able to vocalize. I was comparing the crime, not the victims. |
Who can look into Michael Vick's heart and soul and know if he is truly rehabilitated and he could be trusted "behind closed doors". I believe in giving people second chances, but not at the expense of helpless. Community service at the animal shelter and perhaps hefty donations to the facility that took the most psychologically scarred of the dogs to rehabilitate would suffice. Let him PROVE himself before putting another innocent into harms way. |

Despite the fact that so many people have lost respect for him, there are still many people who might listen to anti-dog fighting ads by him. |

Would he be kind to a dog ~ or would he abuse a dog, as he did so many times in the past? Troubling questions. |

Michael Vick may be a totally new person, who knows? At the same time, some actions have long-term, or even permanent consequences. As a felon, he can't vote, no matter what wonderful things he may do in the future. Sometimes you have to live with your mistakes. |

So, he got himself back into the game of football and is working on paying his bills. NOW he wants a dog??? Oh please...and using his kids as an excuse?? UGH Let him go to a shelter and volunteer and SHOW US how much he really CARES about dogs. BLAH |
Ok lets see.. Electrocuted, shocked, starved, drowned , made to suffer with open wounds cause not one person with one ounce of compassion would put the poor baby out of it's misery, but ,hey, yea he would make a great owner? People with no compassion don't change ..If you don't have compassion you can't grow it  I think anyone who would give him an animal any animal is a moron. He is doing public announcements and talking in schools cause that is what he has to do not how he really feels, there is a difference.. JMO |

HE** NO!....he should never be allowed to own another animal! I'm all for 2nd chances....but in some cases people don't deserve it. & this is a perfect example of that. I feel that if you didn't have love & appreciation for animals the 1st 20 to 30 something years of your life how the heck do you expect to have it now all of a sudden? ....what?... because you spent a little time in jail, u come out born again & clean?...Get out of here! He should just worry about taking care of his kids because he'll never be blessed to feel the love an animal gives again! I know I sound a bit harsh, but this "Man" REALLY boils my blood. |
To me, that'd be like giving a child molester who claims he's rehabilitated a child to adopt. Nonsense, and it shouldn't happen. |
