No Longer a Member | FluMist 2010 Well, just got my mist 2.5 hours ago and am getting the same sick feelings that I always do...for some reason I get the side effects that they say normally show up in children, but not adults...what is wrong with me? Why do they have to over-vaccinate the military? I'm in the right age group that getting the flu won't present me any real danger, I'd rather donate my vaccination to a child or elderly person who needs it... "What side effects are associated with the nasal-spray flu vaccine LAIV (FluMistŪ)? In children, side effects can include runny nose, headache, wheezing, vomiting, muscle aches, and fever. In adults, side effects can include runny nose, headache, sore throat, and cough. Fever is not a common side effect in adults receiving the nasal-spray flu vaccine." So why do I have a fever??? Bleh, feeling like crap right now... CDC - Seasonal Influenza (Flu) - Q & A: The Nasal-Spray Flu Vaccine (Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine [LAIV]) |

| I thought the mist was a live-vaccine so you have more of a chance of getting side affects from it. My doctor said pretty much all kids usually get the mist while she recommends the shot for adults. I got my first flu shot last week and had no effects from it! I hope it works. I got the flu pretty bad last year.

No Longer a Member | I get whatever they choose to give me, unfortunately its the mist, I think because they get a limited amount of the actual shots so they reserve them for the older members, and the preg. ladies. The last 3 years I've gotten the mist, and each time I get sick, usually just for a few hours, but nonetheless, it sucks |

| I remember that from my military days. The worst was when we were being used to test the first flu shots. Back in the 70's I got a shot in each arm, one was Swine Flu A and the other was Swine Flu B. I, along with several of my shipmates wound up at the hospital with the worst flu ever. Turned out that we were NOT supposed to get both vaccines at the same time. I think that was also back when live vaccines were used. When I got a little more senior, I discussed the fact that I was getting sick every time I got the shot with a doc. I told him about the A/B fiasco and he wound up giving me the chicken feathers allergy stamp so that I no longer had to get flu shots. What a relief! I tried a cheap feather pillow not long after and woke up stuffed up something fierce so maybe there was something to that after all! I still do not get them, but my mom gets them every year and swears by them. She started way back when she was driving a bus for the school and getting every flu that came along. After she started getting the shots, no more flu. My sister works in the medical profession and she also swears by the vaccines. She never gets a bad reaction and never gets the flu. I think for the majority of people the vaccines are probably a good thing, but for a few -- they are a pain!

| Every time I've gotten the shot, I've gotten sick. No exceptions. I've given up. |

| it will only last a day. Back when I was in, they started using that Shot gun...just walk down the hallway and they were hitting each arm several times. I remember I got a flu shot while I was at The Basic School. We just came in from a 30 mile forced march after spending 3 days in the field. I had a cold to being with, and then line up for shots. All I remember is when I got back to my BOQ room , I layed down at 8 pm, and woke up 36 hours later. Since then, I have never had a problem with them, and I get a flu shot every year. This year I also got the Shingles shot the same time. Flumist is basically for kids and the young, correct? It has been know to cause massive growth of chest hair! |

No Longer a Member | Lol, I don't know about the chest hair, but it's only been approved as safe for people under 50 and over 5. I'm over the side effects now, I honestly would prefer the shot because I usually don't get the side effects, but they don't really give you an option. I do remember the line up in basic to get the shots, I think I got 3 in each arm and one in the toosh all in about a 30 minute timeframe, the next day they took a lot of blood :S. |

No Longer a Member | When I'm at work my LL comes by to check in on him but I usually make it home for lunch to make sure he is good and to give him some exercise, and I'm a day shift person because I'm AF I won't deploy out of here, but when I do, which will happen probably when I get to my next assignment I'll send Rizzo home with my mom, unless I make great friends with someone before deploying. |
