| ![]() Yes — it’s true. Poultry is sometimes mechanically separated and when it is, the resulting product is called mechanically separated poultry (MSP). It is NOT true, however, that this is how chicken nuggets are commonly made. The vast majority do not contain MSP. Nuggets are usually made from pieces of white meat and sometimes from a combination of white and dark meat. Some processed meat products, like hot dogs and lunch meat, do contain MSP and this is stated on the ingredient label by law. This process is regulated and inspected by USDA, and if used, is included in the ingredient statement. Even Snopes.com has an entry about the claims in this piece. Anyone who took the time to read this post should also visit http://bit.ly/b7zg2t and http://bit.ly/cSALAM for the facts. Using technologies like this helps prevent the waste food, plain and simple. It is just a more technological and economical way of cutting the remaining chicken meat off of the bone. |

| ![]() When trying to get schoolkids to eat more healthy, Jamie Oliver did a segment where he showed kids how nuggets were made. Had these little kids watch him while he combined all the crap that is left over from cutting the chicken and adding other stuff to make an emulsified mixture. Looked revolting. The kids are all making ack sounds....until...he then made them into nugget shapes, fried them and the kids..KNOWING what they had just watched going into these things, clamoured for them. Jamie Oliver was dumbfounded. So was I. He was hoping to turn the kids off nuggets...not so much... As soon as it was a familiar shape and appearance, they didn't care what was in it.. He probably could have put worms and other things...they just didn't care... I thought it was pretty funny, and yet sad....

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() Totally! Maybe it's because I don't eat nuggets, but that didn't make me totally sick. Yes, it looks super-weird, but that's what I would expect a bunch of mashed-up raw chicken meat to look like. I would assume it turns white when it's cooked, like normal chicken? Anyway, just one more reason not to eat them beside the fact that they are terrible for you. ![]() I do love hotdogs! I choose not to find out what's in them. I eat kosher ones, though.

| ![]() not only is the "goop" disgusting, so is the way that McDonalds raises and slaughters their chickens. They are one of the largest meat corporations in the world and have their own factory farms and slaughter houses, which gives them the ability to change their ways, but they refuse and still use out of date, inhumain slaughter practices. | ![]() I find these processed foods very "disgusting " sorry for the strong word, but it has been a while since i saw a special show "how sausages and hot dogs are made" i can no longer eat sausages, nuggets, hot dogs, Bologna, Pastrami, canned meat , etc, my list is very long. I get nausea and feel sick just of the thought of putting that into my mouth. There was a scene of a lot of "fats" and leftover shavings processed into it that comes to my mind every time i see these foods and it was very nasty. I have tried a "Kosher" hot dog a while back in a friends house who shares some of my repulsiveness towards those processed meats, according to her Kosher hot dogs were made different. The taste was strong, not bad, but my mind could not get over it , i ate it and had a "ton" of Tums all night , could not sleep , felt very sick . For the ones who eat : Bad for you ! For the ones who do not eat : Good for us !
