Try putting up a sign saying "Don't ring doorbell, it opens trap door" in the very least you should make them think twice before ringing it. Or "Don't ring doorbell, baby asleep" they don't need to know it's a fur-baby

I don't want a general sign. Yes, UPS, USPS, and FED EX, friends can ring my bell...I don't want to discourage evryone, only the _________ _____________!!!!!
I am making a small sign today, and putting it on our brick steps; they'll have to see it when they start to walk up, and no one else will notice it from the street. I couldn't find a doormat.

UPS and FED EX never ring my bell. I once had a box of Godiva chocolates melt because of their failure to ring. Of course it was replaced, but that is not the point. How is it they take the time to bring something to your door and then not even bother to knock or ring? I totally don't understand it, but many people tell me they have the same problem with them.

Ummm Hello~ Ringing the doorbell would take that one second away from their next delivery

As for the Church solicitors~I really like the robber idea. But I haven't had solicitors here in a very long time. Now that I have opened my BIG MOUTH I'm sure my doorbell will be ringing!

Hindu is such a beautiful religion. It was by far one of my favorite religions in my World Religions class in college. Do you study yoga in the classic (eastern) way, then? That too is such a lovely practice .

I think they finally got the message at our house . . .we don't even let any of them actually make it to the door. When we see em coming (and you can always see them walking around the neighborhood and know you will get bothered) we fling open the door right as they start their approach up the driveway and tell them to turn around and keep walkin' cause we ain't interested in what they are sellin' . . .LOL

You're right, but you left out the post office!! Last year I was waiting for my son's college grad invitations. I had received an email stating that they were enroute. I waited and waited. The tracking number stated that they were delivered, but where???? They were delivered to an unoccupied, new house next door...no curtains, for sale sign infront, obviously no one lived there. They sat on their top steps, in the rain for two weeks while I was calling the publisher and printer, trying to find out where they were. The invites were damaged, but UNC was really nice when I explained what happened, and sent another order with over-night delivery. I went to the post office, and was furious. I brought the damaged, molded package with me and filed a complaint. I had to fight to get some type of compensation...they allowed me to sent all 75 invitations with over night delivery, since it was their fault.
I have watched all three of them drop of packages, and leave. No attempt to ring the door bell.

I have my signs ready for Sunday. I will wait and watch. If they ignore the signs, then we will have to have another talk.

What an awful story. Really is a pain when stuff like that happens.

I don't have the issues with USPS that I do with UPS and FedEx.

I know the church I belong to does (Mormon). I know dozens of people who've joined the church through the missionaries, including my parents.

The Mormon church has been one of the fastest growing religions in the world for decades, due primarily to this method. Personally, I don't agree with most of the Mormon doctrines, however, if a person is searching for a religion that will meet their needs for a caring, family oriented..etc church, you cannot go wrong. Their values cannot be faulted and their approach on the door knocking is pretty good. They are polite, if you ask them to leave they will. If they see a do not disturb sign, they wont. My frustration is with the other religions and solicitors that are more aggressive and by manner turn people off. I don't think the Witnesses do themselves much good.

I always answer the door and I politely tell them I am Roman Catholic, but I will take their pamphlet. They politely smile and leave, never had a problem.
Maybe cause it's new York I don't know.
