OMG you guys, did you see last night's episode? I'm reeling. I can't believe how much happened.

I can never watch this on Sunday night, I wouldn't be able to sleep!

I can't believe how scummy Roger is. I thought Jane had turned him around. And it looks like Don is about to hound-dog it again too. Even Pryce, it's nutty!

I think men love cartoons, and the older I get the more I can appreciate men for being little boys who just want to have fun. I had a very skewed idea of the male female relationship growing up, I didn't know some people didn't think we were equals, and old time movies, Katherine Hepburn, for example, was more than equal to any man, so I was a little confused about women's lib, I thought we needed a man's liberation. Society didn't see it the way my mother saw things, and I learned that was a need for more equality in the work place. My first job interview after I was married they asked if I was on birth control, and when I planned to start a family!

Glad they can't do that anymore, but that question blew me out of the water!

Woman are definitely moodier than men, and sometimes I think the moodiness or perhaps feeling that they need to be respected so much leaves them a little humorless. They are just so ready to tell men off, maybe because men aren't as good as fighting back with words. I think we see that here on Yorkietalk as well.

Nancy, most of the time I want to smack Betty. Her frustrations and reasons for leaving Don are understandable, but I find it difficult to name one positive thing about her. The closest I have come is that she has (had?) high standards, but those standards were for show and social standing and less about love for her family.

Ha ha, your post cracked me up. He's younger than me, but he reminds me so much of men my dad's age. I mean he just seems older than me.

When Betty slapped her daughter I was so upset, she doesn't even seem to love her daughter, it's like her father was the only person she was really close to. She was his little princess. She does seem so empty, and thinks a man can bring her happiness.

What did you all think of the season finale? What are your predictions for Don and his bride?

I am officially a Peggy fan. Loved her playful slapdown of Don's anti-cigarette advertising statement in the NYT. When he asked what she thought, she threw back his line about not playing *those* kinds of games (remember his criticism of the staged fight over the ham?).

I watched seasons 1 and 2 again and I have changed my mind about a number of characters. Previously I said I love Joan. Now I think she is a sad case. Joan is very limited and superficial despite her assets: looks, brains, poise and presence. She fully accepts the limitations placed on women at the time and embraces the idea that the best she can hope for in life is to marry well. Although she has plenty of opportunity and power to advance as a woman, she sits back and discourages Peggy from doing what she is too much of a coward to do. The only time Joan loses her composure is to cry over the death of Marilyn Monroe, or to flash some bigotry when one of her office flames dates a black woman.

Peggy is still a bit of a mystery to me. In the first two seasons she does make great strides as a woman earning a job and an office usually reserved for men only. However, I still can't view her success as the product of great courage and brains. She has some kind of weird detachment from reality that is fully evidenced with her reaction to the unwanted pregnancy. She denies, denies, denies.

I can't decide what the writers' intent is with Don Draper. Is he everyman, a little bit of everything? Watching all 4 seasons, he is all over the place. No one is *that* complicated. He can't be a single person.

The only time he seems like a real person is when he is with the former wife of the real Don Draper, and then after she dies, a little bit with Peggy.

When does season 5 start???

I read in another forum that everyone thinks Roger will die in the next season because there is nowhere his storyline can go. Noooo! He is such a great despicable character.

One more thing about Peggy: why on earth did she sleep with Duck?! Yuck!! He threw out his dog Chauncey onto the streets of Manhattan. Grrr.

The Marilyn scene and bigotry were in the first season.

No new season yet. Hoping for one soon.

Oh okay, you scared me. Truthfully, I think people believed that women should be shallow back then. Women weren't supposed to worry their pretty little heads.
