Walmart!!! Boy!! I really enjoyed reading all these complaints- Thought I was the only one that hated Walmart. I live in a very very small town. We had 2 supermarkets before Walmart-- Well they came in here and very quietly undercut the prices or matched all the others stores special sales prices. Of course everyone shopped Walmart for convinience.. First one store went out of business and within a year the second one went out of business. Now Walmart has had a big inventory and the shelves were empty on a lot of items- now that that is over they have restocked and GUESS WHAT???? Big price increases on most of the items in the store. WALMART SUCKS!! Tired of their reducing the amount in a package and now charging more for the item-- Do they think we are stupid and haven't noticed that they are now selling a 4lb bag of suger instead of a 5lb bag and it is costing more than the 5lb bag cost originally??????? Plus the quality is gone(What little there was)-- You open a can their brand of anything and it is not full- more liquid than anything. Well we have to drive an extra 25 miles to go to a regular grocery store but I am going to do it. I am mad and not going to take it anymore!!!!! |
I hate Walmart almost as much as y'all, maybe more because I work there! College educated (business degree) but it was the only job in my town I could find when I graduate. Now that I've move 1100 miles away from home to the big city of Austin, Texas I'm looking for a new job, preferably a salaried one in my field! The shelves are empty That is because they've instituted a new inventory control system. It works well IF you fix the inventory numbers. BUT in order to save money Walmart has cut a lot of workers and now has department managers running 3 or 4 depts. With that many depts (and products!) and virtually no help they just can't get all the fixing and ordering done. I was lucky because I was the pharmacy manager so I only had one dept. However, I still had 50-100 products out of stock in my department (out of a few thousand items) because I couldn't get them in from the manufacturer the selection of products is horrible- yep. They mainstreamed a lot of stuff trying to save money, but in the end its just driving the customer to shop at other places b/c they can't find what they need. you NEED to know your prices again w/ 1 person running multiple departments its near impossible to keep everything priced. Just with my one department I would have trouble keeping labels up on everything... usually b/c people or kids will take them down. the lines are long and their employees are either disgruntled or just don't care they have jobs! Its really hard for employees to give a darn when the store treats them like crap! there is a scheduling system in place now, and it schedules people by the amount of money made by that store the previous year on that day. The result is being short staffed most of the time. When you are doing multiple peoples jobs for practically minimum wage its hard to have a good attitude. At my store I was running a department that makes 100,000 a WEEK (and that was just the OTC part, not the behind the counter pharmacy), pretty much by myself for $9/hr. I earned 40 hrs of vacation my first year there, but because my job code in the computer said "part time" instead of "full time" even though my first year I worked full time every single week, I did not ANY of my vacation time I earned. Also, the insurance they provide is crap. Most employees can't afford it. My fiancee and I only got the dental with was 12 each month, we were planning to use for the free cleanings once we got to Austin, but b/c our job codes dropped back down from full time to part time again we lost our dental insurance. So that was 100 from each of us down the drain. I could go on and on and on with ways that walmart treats their employees poorly. So its really hard to care to do a good job when you are treated like that. Though I still try to. We do NOT shop at Walmart anymore. The only thing we'll buy there is on occasion when we are getting off work (we work from 10pm-7am) and don't feel like stopping any where else. Luckily we have a H.E.B. a couple hundred yards from our apartment and we just walk there any time we need groceries. We'll occasionally go to Whole Foods for things like the dogs' food. Everything else we need (which usually isn't much) we try to buy second hand. |

Poor Sam Walton just turned over in his grave again. Maybe he will get really disgusted and come back to haunt the executive board for their horrible business practices. |
@ Sladesmommy- Welcome to Georgia! ETA: Ok, I'm confused. Her tag line says she's moving from TX to GA in August, but her post says she just to Austin. I think I need more caffeine this morning. In any case, I hope you find your dream job soon. |

It was very interesting to hear from an employee of Walmart. SHAME ON THEM!!!! for the way they treat their employees. Just one more reason not to shop there anymore. We knew something was going on in our Walmart but just wasn't aware of all the problems they were having. You can be sure it isn't lack of profits, they are just greedy and don't want to share with their employees. They believe they have everyone by the short hairs, but wouldn't it be funny if because we all quit shopping there it would make a difference. Would love to see one of these stores go out of business like they have run off all the Mom n Pop owned stores. |

Lol! This thread is a good one! ;) I hate Walmart but LOVE the savings...especially since the posh Austin Walmart's have started carrying brands that you'd find in Central Market (a gourmet grocery store) and Whole Foods. We have several very nice ones here and they are opening a new special one in a month, in central Austin that will be 10 times better because they went through h__l just to get to build it. The neighborhood fought them tooth and nail for years. Walmart won but with restrictions. They took half of a closed down mall and remodeled it and it has to green and pleasing to the eye, and carry things a lot of urban Austin city dwellers would buy. |

BTW, do you attend the Austin Yorkie Meetups? We are planning on being at the one tomorrow. Rhetts_mama, I did live in GA, but just moved to Austin. Just haven't been on YT much since and haven't thought to change my sig. :) |

When Sam died the store just kept getting worse until it's in the pits. You can't even get a piece of meat cut the way you like called it's all pre-packaged. I go to Winn Dixie for my groceries now, and shop different little thrift shops for other things I need. Great prices, friendly people. |
Walmart has the worst customer service both in store and on the phone. Don't even call, they put you on hold and NEVER come back. I still can't get a reason why they stopped carrying the Lulupink line. If you call corporate and complain with a legitamite complaint they will have the store manager call you with apology and a 25.00 gift card. I bet they are going broke with this alone. You would think they would straighten there act up. I shop at Kroger for groceries and such and Goodwills and second handy stores for other things when I can. Otherwise I go to the Mall which is 2 1/2 hours away one way just to keep from going to walmart. |
My entire family (kids included) HATE Walmart and have for years. TARGET is my only go-to store for hba's, dry groceries, etc. Neat shelves, clean store, pleasant employees. Walmart is dirty, unstocked and has bad-attitude employees (generally speaking). |
This is exactly why we never did shop there much. They come into town, undercut prices, force other businesses to close, then maybe even raise prices. I'm no econ major or anything, but something tells me if there is only one store in town, that is bad for jobs. lol. Our weakness is Sam's. :( We have Meijer in Michigan and four of the surrounding states. It's much the same as a store, but we feel way more comfortable supporting them. |
I can't say I have much o fa problem with Walmart. One of the ones near us is VERY trashy, but the others are pretty clean (all things considered), the savings are GREAT, and the employees are pretty helpful, IMO! We live in a nice suburb though, so that could be why we don't have a problem. Also, one of my FAVORITE things is that you can get REALLY, REALLY nice acrylic nails done for like $16, where normally I'd pay $45. Whenever I'm doing something "special" where I want to have nails, I go right to walmart to get them done. |
I always spend way more than I want to, always get overcharged on at least two items everytime and don't catch it till I get home (there goes any savings!), I feel bad for the employees... low pay, kept under 40 hrs so they can't collect any benefits, it's depressing. The quality of most their products sucks: hence the cheaper prices. No more crafts/material dept:( but in a way that's a good thing, bc I won't have to wait over 30 minutes or more for someone to cut the material for me! I can still find bargains online, and purchase cute doggy clothes from our own fabulous YT Vendors, and get treated more fairly and don't have to drive to do it. So I save on gas and time. Last trip for meds I stopped at the Dunkin Doughnuts for one of their new drinks... got a pretty intense case of diarrhea thankfully after I got home. So I don't feel the need to do that ever again. Leary of the silly doughnuts too! My new game is to go in only when I have no other choice, and come out spending under $20.00. (exceptions made for stupid cheap stuff I have to have!) Or, if I just feel like shopping (also called exercise), I'll take a cart, shop to my heart's content, use the price checkers that never work, get frustrated and leave the cart wherever, and go home! I really had to do that once but left the checkout line bc I had to meet the daycare bus at home, the the checkout process was clogged as usual. I shop the childrens sale clothes alot for furbaby stuff and hair ties. If I see a dress on clearance for a dollar or two, I get the largest size (more material, unless it's something alterable) and go from there. Last winter I scarfed up 4 Ravens Football cheerleader dresses (NFL Logo and all!)$5 each! 3 to alter, and one a total remake for my little dude! (he don't do ruffles or lace!) Keeps me busy enough I hardly miss the crafts/sewing dept at all!:p Summing up... more bad than good at this point in time. We give WalMart many :thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown . :D Venting feels good! |
They have everyone hooked and have driven most of the competition out of business so they no longer need to pander to the customer's needs, wants or desires. Ours is going down the tube too. They hjave been reorganizing for the past 3 months and I think that is a disguise for removing half the inventory that was not bringing in the bucks per square shelf inch needed. Ours seems to be moving closer to a Sam's everyday. More bulk and less specialty items. :( I am spending alittle more and shopping at Publix for groceries. |
I like Target's setup better, however I feel bad for the employees of Wal-Mart. The company has been tough on their loyal employees for years. I'm lucky enough to have a wonderful fabric store that is still open around me. I shop at Aldi for some things, and Harris Teeter for others. When the hubby changes my oil, he finds the cheapest prices on my oil at...you guessed it, Wal-Mart. {I have bad panic attacks when I am in a crowded store, so there are few shopping experiences that are pleasurable to me. } Every person is different, and there is no reason for employees or customers to be disrespected. The world would be a better place if everyone showed consideration for each other. Christmas is fast approaching; I am going online to avoid the crowds. (O: |
Ouch. That sounds brutal (referring to the OP) I've honestly never had any real issues with Wal Mart. Part of doesn't know what I'd do without them :yelrotflm Honestly, I think Wal Mart has been greatful to me. I remember I bought my Playstation 3 there about 6 months ago and I got a three year repair free warranty for 20 bucks. (Which usually got 25 bucks a year elsewhere!) Maybe your Wal Mart is just afraid of losing customers  |

I can tell you first hand that many, many WalMart employees care. At my brother's funeral there were 2 bus-loads of employees that came for the viewing to honor my brother. They took there own time to show their respect for a boss that they loved. And the day of the funeral another bus-load of employees showed up. It did my heart good to see so many employees have such a respect for their manager. The next time you visit a WalMart please keep in mind that these people need their job. They are raising families, paying rent, buying food, etc. I believe that many of the employees would not work for WalMart if they could find a job elsewhere. Although I HATE WalMart, and, as I said earlier, will NEVER step foot in one again, please respect those that work there. They are just trying to do what is best for themselves and their families. I will now step down from my soapbox. Everyone have a good day! |
I feel bad for those who have crappy Walmarts near them:( Ours is outstanding! The employees could be a little more knowledgeable, but they couldn't be nicer:thumbup: If it weren't for Walmart, my family would not be able to survive. My sister is an assistant manager of a Walmart where she lives, and they've been very good to her. Her benefits are good, the pay is competitive, and there's room for advancement. Of course an employee will get out of it what they put IN;) |

My brother put everything into his job and lost his life. He worked the crazy hours and did more than any human being should be expected to do. He was a positive influence to all of his employees and strived to make their lives better. Please remind your sister, if she works to many hours and is exhuasted at the end of her shift, to call someone to pick her up. I don't want anyone else to lose their life because of exhaustion. |

I rather stick needles in my eyes than go to that dump :thumbdown I travel to Wegman's for my groceries and other places for my other stuff. More expensive, time consuming, etc., yes, but I don't have to deal with all that you mentioned. Walmart is just completely disgusting  |
I love Wal-mart but around here there are no other options. The nearest Wal-mart is about 20 miles away and it is my least favorite of all the Wal-marts in our area. Their produce is not all that great and they are always out of items I am needing. The other Wal-marts I enjoy going to are about 35 miles away. Sometimes they ask to see a receipt but that does not bother me. I understand that theft is a big problem. |

Thank you for your kinds words. |
Our Walmarts are hit and miss around here. And we are getting a brand new super walmart walking pretty close to where I live. I can only hope that it stays clean and nice. Without sounding like a total beiotch I just have to say that in the city where I live (Corpus Christi, TX) if you shop at walmart it is not going to be a pleasant experience, it's pretty ghetto. But across the bridge in Portland it is a nice modern new Walmart that has space to push a cart and great employees. It's all demographics for us. I avoid Walmart at all costs. Fortunatley we have a chain here called H.E.B. and they give Walmart a big run for their money! Not too many stores can say that! Viva HEB! Manolos Mom ~ I loves my mexicans :) They spice up my life! |

I got sidetracked, though. What I meant to bring up was the whole self-checkout thing. This irritates me and my husband to no end. Home Depot has them as well. We REFUSE to use them. When you checkout with a computer, you are denying a PERSON a JOB. Target does not have them! I feel if you do not care enough about your business to hire friendly people to greet me and tally my orders, then you don't need my business! |
I didn't know in how many ways Quote:
I hate that bottom-feeding, dump. Thanks for summing it up for me ;) That's what it is...a low-life magnet. What a nightmare. Once, I thought I was going to get beat up over a bathroom rug . Ugh! |
