| Shingles Shot Do any other "Mature" as in older folks here get the Shingles shot. I was at Walgreens yesterday and they were advertising the this seasons Flu Shot. Since I was there and no one in front of me, I said let me have it! Guess it also includes the Swine Flu Virus, or as I would say, the Hog Virus. They then asked me if I ever had the Shingles shot, and if I had Chickenpox. Yes, I had it as a kid, but no shot. They suggested it so I got it. Supposed to last a lifetime. Cost of that shot without Insurance was $215. Fortunately it cost me a deductable. One less thing I will have to worry about..the Shingles! Then again, a few of these threads are worse than the Pox! Good thing I am kinder and gentler now. |

| My MIL had the shingles shot and about a year later, she got shingles. They say you can still get shingles, but it will be a lighter case. Not true for my MIL!

| My husband and I just got the shot last week. His Mother got the shingles in her eye and it was VERY painful. The paperwork they gave us said you still have a 50% chance of getting shingles even with the shot but after seeing his Mom suffer, I figures let's lessen our risk. |

| I asked about the shot for shingles at our local pharmacy and they said that they only give it if you are 60 plus. I'm 59 you think that would be close enough. My mother got the shingles in her 80's and she was in alot of pain. They took forever to heal and she has flare ups now and then where they bother her again. You always think that only old people get Shingles but my 30 years old son in law got them last Christmas.

| I'm not old enough, but I work with an older woman who just got shingles last week and boy is she in pain. I'll definitely get that shot when I grow up.

| Hopefully it will help! Even if I ever do get them, hopefully it will not be as severe! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Both my parents had shingles. My Mom got them in her early 70's in her eye and it was awful and she never fully recovered. My Dad got them 2 years ago and he was in bad pain. I may look in to the shot when I turn 60.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm glad you posted this reminder, I've been thinking about this, and I too have heard that it's extreemly painful, and there's no real cure once you get it. I guess this is something I should do.

| I would rather replace the roof than get the Shingles. I am afraid it would kill me after Encephalitis. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The ad above the page, gives information on shingles, here's the link for those who don't see the ad. Shingles Picture Slideshow: A Collection of Photos It says: In 2006, the FDA approved the first vaccine to prevent shingles in adults. Recommended for adults over 60 who’ve already had chickenpox, the vaccine, Zostavax, contains a booster of the chickenpox vaccine usually given to children. The vaccine is over 50% effective in preventing shingles, and reduces the incidence of postherpetic neuralgia by at least two-thirds. Studies continue to evaluate the vaccine’s long-term effectiveness.

| Yes, I got it when it came out even though I'm only in my 50's. I have very bad fever blisters around my nose and my doctor said that makes me much more likely to get shingles. A friend of mine just got it the other day and she is in her early 50's. Both her parents have had the shingles and that was enough for her doctor to give it to her.
