Have a bad virus need suggestions !
 

I think I have what Patti had and my computer is crashing - I can't even access my hard drive to back up my work ! I wrote Alldogboots but will take ANY suggestions - I've never ever had a problem I can't fix and now my computer is totally taken over by AV Security suite --a ROUGE antivirus program and I can't access any fixes - the only thing today I was able to do is get on here through firefox and have searched and searched for solutons - my computer came with NO windows XP cd but I'm losing everything

Please help - any help would be so so appreciated - I'm calling geek squad today but am very worried about the cost and what they can actually do-

this is very bad......when Patti posted about the same thing - it's now happening on mine and i can't afford a new computer and need to access my files and work just to be able to put them back on my computer IF I can get a complete wipe from a pro or anyone with vast computer knowledge

Had I not been taking care of my parents this weekend I think I could have saved my work but today it won't even read my drives ! This just happened this morning and is very bad !

Oh my gosh! I had the same thing last week..you think it has something to do with YT??

I called my computer guy and he told me to go to the last Restore Point and it fixed my problem...I think you press F8 or F12...cant remember..

Already done this morning and it changed nothing and I'm becoming more infected as I look at the computer - It has nothing to do with YT I do know that - but thanks !!!

hey sweetie............geek squad is great............they can even save stuff off of computers that wont come on..........the fact that you can get on through firefox means it hasnt totally crashed...........my advice is get off of it as far as the internet is concerned till geek squad can get a hold of it........from what i hear they are pretty reasonably priced.........if you are like me..........the price would be worth it ....just to be able to keep all my pics would make me happy...........i havent used them....but i know people who have...and they all sing their praises..........good luck.

thank you ! I'll be making calls this morning but I just cannot lose my work - my last backup was a while ago and I can use that but man - I have no access to anything - even my email program at this time - nothing works - only firefox to get online but the pop ups are horrible

while you are waiting for repairs............dont open anything......no unknown websites for sure..........just be careful sweetie....you dont want to lose everything.

Oh dang... I used to have it but my phone was stolen and I had to re-do my address book. I was actually just going to text her and tell her to read my next comment and that's when I realized I don't have it anymore.

Hey V, try not to panic too much. This also happened to me last week (don't know if you saw that post of mine) and I took it to a place here in Brenham called Computer Helpers. It sounded just like what you're describing. They ended up having to replace my hard drive but it came home with EVERYTHING on it. I didn't lose any documents, pictures, nothing! I was frantic about the cost too because this is just not something we can afford to pay for right now. It ended up being about $150. Much better than the cost of a new computer but still makes me sick.

You need to just take it in somewhere unless the poster above me can help you out somehow. So sorry!!

Hope you can save all your pictures and information. After you get this problem fixed, I would highly recommend Carbonite, it is 50.00 per year,and you get 15 months instead of 12 when you sign up, ever since we got it, I don't have to worry about doing back ups.

I found someone who guarantees they can fix her virus for $25. No payment until it's fixed. I've set up an appointment for her online for this evening. Cross fingers everyone. If she can get online I think we can fix this.

Do you know the person, or know if they are a reliable site? Otherwise, they may just want to get access to her computer, and this can be dangerous if she uses her computer for shopping and banking. It's not the payment that they are wanting as much as information that is stored on your computer.

I had to take my computer to a local company and it was around $200, it was well worth it, and I didn't lose anything except the virus.

It depends financially on options available. I have spoken with this person, and have reviewed his info on twitter and facebook and have read reviews and testimonials. There really aren't too many options at this point. It's up to red98vett if she would like him to help. She's aware of what ifs.

I also had computer problems just recently. I could not access any help sites, and Windows Update didn't work, so I installed Norton (I was using Avast), and it caught a lot of stuff, but not everything. I was being redirected for almost every link I clicked, and freezing up constantly. I emailed microsoft and they talked me through several steps and tests and finally, after a couple of days of testing and rebooting, it worked. Until the problem is fixed you should keep your computer turned off while you aren't trying to fix it to keep out remote access. One scan I did was Windows Live OneCare safety scanner: Free online tool for PC health and safety, full service scan. I also used TDSKiller and then HiJackThis, and it worked. Good luck!

Okay, it sounds like you have checked them out, many of these sites have no real person to talk to. I sure hope you can help her.

I enjoy helping. My background is in internet marketing, little programming, design - all self taught so I was able to learn a lot just by reading and researching. Hopefully she'll call me tonight so we can get started.

I recently went through a similar problem and was sure it was a virus. My son, who's a whiz, was unavailable so i just ran the 'clean disc' and then the disk defragmenter and everything started working much better. I actually ran it 3 times over a week's period and got better performance with each run-through. I think my problem started when I downloaded some security updates.

I want to THANK CONNIE for calling me - then Karen (alldogboots) for referring me to the tech support guy I was on the phone with for over 4 hours last night -

I was uable to use his remote access which he said rarely happens - so I knew I was in trouble

BUT - I'm pretty good about the ins and outs of my computer and we got rid of that nasty Av security suite ! It took many different things and just when i thought all was in vain I was able to disable alot of running programs and run 2 programs for a last resort and now no pop ups ! He was great - I was really impressed

One he referred me to was combo fix. I still have the memory trojan but we never got into that one - I will probably be calling him again tonight. what a long night - worked all day and up all night talking to him -

so basically - all was done without him on my computer - even my msconfig was disabled due to the fake program that took me over but now at least I'm running - just have to fix alot of other things that aren;t working but hopefully wont need help for that (I MAY but hope I don't)

Thank you Karen - I'd refer him to anyone and told him so - and as an FYI he has a yorkie :) - told me that without ME mentioning I had 2 yorkies

if anyone wants his website and tech support - I'm more than happy to send anyone to him - he was really good considering we had to do it all step by step with no remote access. I liked him and am up and running for the time being !

Microsoft actually helped you ? Amazing ! and I'm happy for you - I've never had any luck contacting any of the big computer companies so haven't even tried

ps - when you run hijackthis - don't you have to post logs so a pro can read them before you do anything ?

If Karen didn't find this guy-I'd be without a computer and paying money I just dont have (car repairs wiped me out these last 2 months) and am grateful I was able to contact someone so reasonably priced and knew what he was doing especially since all had to be done via the phone vs remote access - my cell phone actually was burning my face by the time we hung up :D

I'm surprised I don't have an imprint of my phone on my face lol
