Because the director of Twilight (Katherine Harwick) did an awful job and wanted more money for the 2nd one than they were willing to pay her.
They were filming the other two and taking them into production at the same time--kind of hard for one director to do two movies at once.
Not sure who is on for the last one?  | I don't think Catherine Hardwicke did such a bad job - especially when you consider she had such a low budget to work with. Infact, I think some of the best scenes are from the 1st movie. I think she did a great job with building the sexual tension between Edward & Bella which I feel ignited the love story and is really the foundation of the story. I liked the music better in Twilight,too. I think the only thing lacking was the make-up and glitter. I really enjoyed Eclipse and I will get the movie and it was sooo much better than New Moon but then so was the book. I wish they could have made Eclipse into 2 movies like they're suppose to do with Breaking Dawn. There's just so much to cover.
