Here's an example. The tag says "backyard breeder". http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...ml#post3176921 I have over 7,000 posts and never knew about tags until now. |
Tags can be really useful if you are looking for a thread, and for finding something in google. For people who are buying a dog from a breeder here, certain threads can be very beneficial. Just reading breeders nursery pictures and classified ads is often not enough to get a clear picture of the breeder's practices. However, other threads that describe, in a breeders own words, how she is caring for her dogs give the buyer a much better overall picture of the type of breeder this person is. Remember, not all tags are made by the same person; each member can place up to two tags. So just because you see a person's name with the words, backyard breeder, it doesn't mean that the same person has made both tags. |

These tags have been used by many for quite awhile and especially about byb's and puppy brokers. I don't think it should be disabled - it is a useful tool. I used it to bookmark a thread on facial peels. However, I agree that people should not be able to put usernames/names there -- just words. |

I first noticed tags a few months ago when all of the drama was going on over the rehoming of Disney. The thread was tagged as BYBer. But what I did notice is that the tagger needs to be able to spell. Back Yard Breeder, BYBer and Backyard breeder do not all come up as choices even though we all know all those combinations mean the same thing. |
Here is a thread with a lot of tags. Someone was really going to town over this one. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-illinois.html |

So if I do a YT search or a Google search, the tags will help me find a specific thread? |

Check out the link I just posted. This was the first time that I ever really noticed tags being used. Answering your question~yes if you search and someone has used your search word and attached it to a thread it will come up. If you so to the drop down SEARCH at the top of the page next to NEW POSTS you can search TAGS. Any post that has the word you are searching as a tag will come up. The only problem that I can see is that the spelling needs to be correct and the word needs to be used consistently for it to work really well. |

Check it out Jodi! Just for you!!! *look down* Can I remove tags if I want to? Did you notice I'm catching up to you in post count? I think it's official, I TALK TOO MUCH!!! |
I had never notice that before..... so is it one person tagging different threads? Admin should be able to track them or remove them. |

Tags should be used for informative purposes. "Disneyrocks" is okay too :p. It's just not a place for personal issues though (ie, issues between members). |
