Okay.... weirdly enough we were talking about this "that's what she said" quote today at lunch while out to eat for someone's birthday. I was asking where the quote came from and someone said The Office. BUT I vividly remember that being an "inside joke" here on YT a long time ago. I don't watch The Office but I'm pretty sure it was way before that show was ever on. Some old-timers on here might remember when someone goofed up and said "what she she" instead of "what she said". There was a lot of teasing her about that (good-naturedly, of course). Seems like that was a long time ago.

So does that expression come from The Office or somewhere earlier?

Maybe The Office got it from here.

Actually, we say that around the house all the time. Not long ago, my kid was watching The Office with us and of course, it was said. She said, "Hey, they got that from us!" Um, no sweetie, we got that from them.
