I'm gone for a few days and I feel like I missed so much! She is just beautiful!!!!! She plays with her chew just like Kaji plays with his toys. (The playing with toys is new for us too...) |

LOVE the video- what a doll! - sidenote- beautiful floors! |
She is so sweet and cute |
Okay folks....can I ask a little more advice  ... ? I'm familiar w/ neutering...having been thru it twice now...but I'm nervous about spaying. If all goes okay...I think we're having Ambrey spayed this Saturday...and OMG, I think I just fainted a little. {oh ANN} Anway...so...is this what I need...and do I need to think of anything special given that she is 40lbs? --> {pain meds, neck-donut, chews to keep her busy...} What else...I'm completely blanking here, like this is my first dog ever...oh my. |
I'm just now seeing the video - isn't she a total ham?!? I cracked up when I heard her nails tapping on the floor. She could never sneak up on you. And she looked just like my babies when she parked her chest on the floor while her butt stuck up in the air. She's something else! :) Sorry - spaying big girls is not something I have experience with. You probably couldn't fit her in a onesie like so many people do, so I guess a collar is the best way to go. Good luck!! |

I think you got it covered. Besides pain meds, elizebethian color, and ches.....just keeping her down and limit her activity......Oops!.....based on your video, maybe chews aren't a good idea. |
Just seeing this thread Ann. You and your hubby are angels in giving this poor homeless mother a home, at least for now.;) (won't be surprised if the boy's end up with a big sister). She looks very much like our neighbor's dog. Also female and has a brindle coat. I'm glad she turned out healthy. Heavens only knows what she's been threw. I can't imagine someone just leaving her behind but there's many heartless people out there for sure. Well it certainly was her lucky day the day she found you:p Hope it all works out the way you hope it will. She's a doll. |

Plus, if they ever were together and just playing...she could just bring a paw down in play and *boom*, broken neck...especially w/ Marcel who is only 3 pounds...so I just don't see any long term solution for her in our home, ya know? She is just SO strong and playful. So, for now...me and hubby are sleeping in separate bedrooms (me w/ Ambrey) and we have the house inside completely fenced off (argh) and have to manage it...she's worth it :). |

Ann, here's a link for a collar that you might look at for her post-spay... Bite Not Collars, Dog Health Aids |

Keeping girls calm and comfortable for a few days is important, and absolutely avoid jumping. My vet says pain meds are optional, but I always take some home just in case it is needed to avoid a 2 hr. trip back to the vet. Since she can't communicate to you that she is in pain, you just watch for symptoms like whining or shivering (I know you will know), and like any good nurse you can give the meds which will also help her relax. Be prepared to use an E-collar in case she is a licker, cause they don't make onesies in her size (haha). Good luck! |
She looks like a pit mix to me. I would take her to a vet and have her scanned for a microchip. They could also guess at what caused those scars. It could be she was used as a bait dog. Or maybe her owners were careless and left their dogs alone and they fought. I would not put her on Craigslist. It is not a safe place to post pets. A lot of people appear nice just to get the dog. I would find someone you know or a reputable rescue. Bully Paws in Fredericksburg Va is great. I know them personally. Good luck and thank you for taking her in. |
You might ask your vet if he does spaying with "wire stitches". I know that's what Tatum had when she was done. They were very very fine wire that stuck up on the ends. The reason for that kind is to discourage them from licking the incision. It worked for Tatum.... no onesie and no cone. |
I have the BEST NEWS! *happy dance* *happy dance* *happy dance* So first, me and hubs went down to the free spay/neuter clinic an HOUR early on Saturday morning (6 a.m.) to get in line - um, yeah, they were already FULL :(. We were pretty bummed. Later that morning, I ran to Petsmart to pick up Ambrey her ginormous chews and I saw a sign for a rescue group who was there, so I talked to them for a long while and he thought they could sponsor Ambrey if we were willing to foster - I could NOT believe my ears as no other rescue I've talked to here could do anything for us :(. So, we brought Ambrey by the Petsmart, and then I talked to the Pres. of Valley Dogs Rescue and Ambrey is now sponsored by them :):):)! We will still foster her (as they are full), but they will guide us and everything. She will be getting spayed w/ one of their wonderful vets this week, and she already has her own ad on their site. They are just INCREDIBLE. Considering how unresponsive most of the rescues have been to us here in Phx the last 2 weeks w/ Ambrey...I am seriously so blown away by Valley Dogs. We are so HAPPY for Ambrey . We now feel like she has the best chance of finding a great forever home. |

Yayyyy! That is wonderful news!!! |
That's great! Are they going to help filtering through all the applicants or will that fall on you? Either way I bet you'll have a final say since you've gotten to know little Ambrey. I hope she won't be going for a while, I like reading little updates about her. :D Yes, I'm selfish.:p |
