Who has a yorkie-poo,or other yorkie mixed dog? I have read alot about mixed dogs on here. Alot from what I have read, alot of you do not agree/like the mixed yorkie breeds,or label them as mutts and whatever else. What is your opinion on them? What do you like/dislike about the mixed yorkies? I have 2 yorkie-poo's and want to know that I am not alone, with having a mixed bred yorkie. I get saddened by some posts that I have saw on mixed bred yorkies. |
Milo is a Yorkie Poo, and he is a Mutt but i could not love him more than I do....just look at that face |
I feel the same as you unfortunately. Some comments that I've read sound really snobby, although I don't know if that is how the poster intended it to be. I don't know why there is that kind of prejudice really. Max is a yorkipoo. From what I've read, mixed breeds tend to have less congenital problems. I've also read that certain breeds were bred to give people with allergies more options in owning a dog. I adopted Max from a rescue and I don't care if he's not AKC registered or can't enter a dog show or whatever else....He has a special place in my heart and I love him to pieces. Recently there was another post on here and I saw a few other mixed yorkie breed owners responding..I was so thrilled to see that I wasn't the only one. I also joined the group "mix it up". |
I think what bothers me about it is breeders who breed mixed breed dogs and call them "designer" dogs. The problem with that is you don't really know what you are getting, in terms of how the dog will end up looking when it is fully grown. But for me, as far as cuteness, I love them. Anyway, I think a dog such as a yorkie-poo is a mixed breed dog, and a mutt is a dog of unknown breeds. |
Few years back I went to a breeders house and he had yorki-poos and yorki-shihtzus for sale. Luckily he was good enough to keep the pups til 10-12weeks which is when I picked mine up. The thing that gets me is that YES They are cute adorable pups who deserve just as much love as a purebred dog. It's the price of them that is ridiculous. I fell for it and paid 450 for a MIXED PUP! If you think about it, it's a mixed dog. Any two dogs that are put together will make mixed babies, but if your charging hundreds for them where is the best interest of the dog? It's the breeders charging 500+ for a MIXED DOG without papers. I dont think people bash them to bash them I think people are ticked at the others who breed them just to make money off of them. I see purebreds cheaper them mixes sometimes . I think its just OUT OF THIS WORLD! My Lola had no papers and had been rehomed 3 times. Some said she is a yorkie and some said a yorkipoo because she doesn't meet the standard. Thats fine with me whatever she is I love her and she will always have a home here. I didn't pay a huge amount for her and think it is reasonable to pay the amount to cover shots and vet visits. I think a mixed dog shouldnt be more then 200 max. |
I dont think anyone has a problem with someone owning a mixed breed. However most dog lovers are going to have the opinion you should adopt a mix breed from a shelter rather than buying into the designer dog craze. |

Our Jax is a Yorkie-poo and we love him just as much as we would a purebred Yorkie or any other dog for that matter. We refer to him as a limited edition, not a mutt ;) |
1 Attachment(s) You are certainly not alone, having a yorkie mix. There are lots of them on here. I have 3 Morkies (Maltese/Yorkie mix), and a pure bred AKC Yorkie, oh and a Schnauzer too. Love them all to pieces! Here are my Morkie girls: |
1 Attachment(s) oh, I love my yorkie mix his name is Relay and he is a yorkie jack mix.. super cute pups.. hugs, Carmen in nj |
I have a pure Yorkie, a rescue and a Yorkiepoo. I absolutely ADORE all three. Can anyone suggest a good shampoo for the Poo, she is 4 months old and has unruly cottony hair. I brush her twice a day and she is still wild looking. Any hints? ;) |

I think the thing you are mistaken for snobbery is that most knowledgable breeders are upset by the fact that when there are thousands of mixed breed dogs in shelters that people are deliberately adding to the problem by breeding more mixed breeds and calling them "designer dogs". By buying these dogs people are encouraging this type of thing. It makes me furious. It's the same thing when people pay huge prices for pet store puppies that are from puppy mills. Sorry for the rant but if you spend any time volanteering at a shelter you could see how sad this is |

yeah that is pure craziness!! I have seen Morkies going for 900. I could never ever bring myself to pay more 200 for a mix ever again. |

Yorkie and Yorkie-Poo are all the rage around here. Yorkie-Poos cost just as much as pure-bred yorkies.Alot of people pay up to $600 here for yorkie-poos. I love the yorkie breed, but I particulary wanted a yorkie-poo because my allergies are crazy, and they are my personal preference over yorkies. However I did not and would not pay any crazy amount of money for them. I got Zoey for $100,they wanted more for her but I wasnt doing it,and then Bella for free, because of what the vet did to Zoey ( thats in another thread written by me if you dont know what happened). I never even heard of them being a designer breed until I found this forum. We didnt have any yorkie mixes in our shelters close by or I would have went there, because I would love to adopt a few dogs, but right now our yard isnt fenced in so I dont want anymore animals until then. |

I have nothing at all against any mixed breed dogs, in fact i totally understand mixing a poodle with a toy dog to breed out shedding as that's what most people are doing it for, and i think yorkie poos are super cute...but i'm curious...obviously yorkies don't shed, so why do they breed them to a poodle?? is it for the curly coat or the coloring that you get...is it temperament...i'm just curious, because it's not as easy to explain as the other shedding breeds bred to a poodle are. thanks!! :) |

1 Attachment(s) For me I do not think that my Yorkies are any better then someone's mixed breed. What I do not agree with is the purposeful breeding for mixes. My feelings are that there are MANY mixed breeds that can easily be adopted through shelters and rescues. I feel that some of the reason so many "designer dogs" are ending up in shelters or rescue is because people are buying them thinking that for an example that all Morkies will grow up looking alike, so what happens is that someone sees a little mix and falls in love and then in turn buys the same mix and is disappointed because it looks nothing like what they orginally saw. In my day (I'm not too old 42) these so called designer dogs were simply refered to as mutts. Now, with all that said I will let you know that I'm a the lucky person owned by a Morkie, designer dog or as I prefer to call her mixed up pup. She is very regal and very smart and I get many compliments on her appearance. She is stunning. However, when someone asks I'm always quick to tell them that she is not the norm. I did not buy her from a breeder, I got her second hand out of the newspaper. Hence my point of how these mixes are accessible without paying the high crazy prices the breeders are trying to get for them. This is my Tia. Elaine |
2 Attachment(s) Sophie is a YorkiePoo I I just adore her. She just had babies . (Babies daddy is a full blood Yorkie) |

You know I feel like I need to say something here...I have two AKC reg...champion bloodlines...etc. dogs one is a GSD and the other my little Tristan you see to the left...I paid dear for them and love them just the same as I did any of my dogs growing up and believe me...we had some beautiful pure breeds and some very unique ones shall I say. I did my home work and research for over a year each for both of these trying to find the best breeder and the best dog available within driving distance cause I don't agree with airline shipping!!! I knew the personality I wanted and needed as well as the temperament and so on only to finally succeed and then what do I get in return from most people is nothing but attitude cause I "paid" for a "Dog" instead of rescuing one from the pound. I am almost 35 yrs old and I have had some horror stories that would grey your hair happen with mix breed dogs snapping into this totally different dog. I don't want to rant but If I get this kind of attitude with "paying" for purebreds, I can't even imagine the attitude that "paying" for mixed breeds should get!! I love all animals and If there was a way of knowing what to expect out of these new "designer" breeds as far as temperament goes then maybe the cost could be justified but as far as looks goes I have never seen a puppy of any breed that wasn't just adorable! I also have noticed that the vast differences in for instances the size of ears on yorkies that are all "AKC" registered and people still pay the price without even knowing what the "breed standard" is. I guess you are darned if you do and darned if you don't! You can't win, I guess the ONLY thing that matters is LOVE! If you love them and don't contribute to the over all massive problems of abuse, neglect, and abandonment then that is the best anyone can hope for! |
Zoey is, at best from what the vet and others have said, a yorkie brussels mix. Agree with calling them mix, not designer hybrid etc. Love they way they shadow me around the house. |
