Will you be getting the swine flu vaccine? I am not sure how it works in the US but right now in canada they are only vaccinating children, pregnant women, and the elderly. I am none of those however, they say by November it will be available to all. Will you be getting it? Why or why not? I don't think I'll be getting it- for a few reasons. It is a very new vaccine and was produced rather quickly- I just haven't seen enough studies done on it. I tend to react to vaccines and I don't really need that again. I dont' usually get the regular flu vaccine as my doctor says I don't need it and I'm sure she would say the same about this one. I just plan to use an alcohol based hand sanitizer and wash my hands frequently. |
All I've heard are people getting sick from it, so no, we wont be getting it :thumbdown |
I will not be getting it either. I hate needles, it's too new and I don't know if it's true or not but I was told it has diseased flesh of african green monkeys:eek: NO THANKS!! |
I definitely won't be getting it. I'm concerned because it went through the system SO quickly. All I've heard is that people are getting sick from it, and having a healthy immune system, I don't see a point in inviting it into my body. I thought that the ones up the nose were shots IN the nose, I didn't realize that they were like a nasal spray. I was thinking that that was the most inhumane thing I'd ever seen LOL. I wish they offered all vaccines like the spray! |

I will NOT be getting it for the same reasons as you and because I believe in building the immune system versus taking a vaccine. |
I don't believe I will either even though everyone is telling us we should. I just think they made it too fast and it's just so new, so it just scares me:eek: |
We wont be getting it either. My daughter just got over swine flu this week....yes it was horrible and scary and am so grateful she is ok. But just to much unknown about the vacine. I have read 1 study on rats that it caused permanent sterlization, and although only 1 study not enough has been looked at to know what the true side effects are not just short term but long term as well. |
If I could get it I would, but I do want my daughter to get it ASAP. She is pregnant. Since she lives in Minnesota, she said that they haven't received it yet, but she will get it as soon as it comes available to her. I just don't want to go up there when the baby comes and give her anything.:( I am worried for my little grandbaby. My daughter has already had to take the Tamaflu because she was exposed. I want them to be healthy. |
I absolutely will not get the shot and no one in my family will either, that includes ALL flu shots....... I haven't had a flu shot in three decades I remember having the I had the flu twice...... I've been reading about flu shots for the last few weeks and from all the info out I've read I have to say there are a multitude of reasons of why I would not get one........ One of the reasons I will not get one is because the studies say they typically don't work........These are from just a couple of sources stating this.... This is quote is from The Cochrane Report,(which is is a group of over 10,000 volunteers in more than 90 countries who review the effects of health care interventions tested in biomedical randomized controlled trials. ) In 2005, the Cochrane Collaboration reviewed studies that involved nearly 500,000 people and concluded that the vaccine was "no better than placebo" in all three age groups for which the shot is advocated: babies, middle aged adults and the elderly. also.... In October 2008, the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine reported that vaccinating young children against the flu had no impact on flu-related hospitalizations or doctor visits during two recent flu seasons. The researchers concluded that significant influenza vaccine effectiveness could not be demonstrated for any season, age, or setting. This is quote is from the former FDA chief..... The National Institutes of Health researchers, basing their findings on more than 30 years of U.S. flu-shot data, announced that giving flu shots to the elderly has not saved any lives. "There is no evidence that any influenza vaccine thus far developed is effective in preventing or mitigating any attack of influenza. The producers of these vaccines know that they are worthless, but they go on selling them, anyway," according to Dr. J. Anthony Morris, formerly chief vaccine control officer at the FDA. Another reason I won't get a flu shot is because the death rate from the flu shot is much, much lower than the CDC is trying to make people believe...It is no where near the 36,000 they are stating......... The CDC and media often cite the statistic that there are nearly 36,000 influenza deaths annually. However, upon closer inspection of data from the National Center for Health Statistics of the CDC, this is a misleading figure. For example, the report of preliminary statistics of death in 2002 shows that only 753 cases of influenza-related deaths were reported compared with 65,231 cases of pneumonia-related deaths. When the CDC compiled the final data, influenza and pneumonia cases are combined, yielding a misleading representation of reported influenza cases. Therefore, pneumonia deaths related to factors such as immunosuppression therapy, AIDS, malnutrition and a variety of other predisposing medical conditions are combined with seasonal influenza statistics. The constant broadcast of “36,000 annual influenza deaths” is misleading and unethical by its apparent intended use of fear to promote vaccination. Here's where the numbers come from: The health department and the CDC start by looking at the average number of pneumonia deaths during a given period of time. If the flu is present at that time, the marked increases in the number of pneumonia deaths are noted. All deaths that exceed the initial average number of pneumonia deaths are classified under the flu. Year // US Influenza Fatalities 1979 -- 604 1981 -- 3006 1983 -- 1431 1985 -- 2054 1987 -- 632 1989 -- 1593 1991 -- 1137 1993 -- 1044 1995 -- 606 1996 -- 745 1997 -- 720 1998 -- 1724 1999 -- 1665 2000 -- 1765 2001 -- 257 TOTAL -- 18,983 AVERAGE -- 1,266 There where a couple of years when the virus in the vaccine was guessed wrong so when the vaccine was distributed is was essentially worthless for those years. You would expect the death rate to rise dramatically in those years since no one had received an effective vaccine but they did not they stayed close to normal.......This is the quote...... Flu "experts" often guess wrong. For example, in 1994 they predicted that Shangdong, Texas, and Panama strains would be prevalent that year, thus millions of people were vaccinated with a flu shot that contained these viruses. However, when winter arrived, the Johannesburg and Beijing strains of influenza circulated through society. The vaccine was ineffective. This happened again in 1996, and again in 1997. More recently, the vaccine created for the 2003-2004 flu season contained flu strains that did not circulate through society that year. Officials were once again forced to admit that millions of people were vaccinated with an ineffective vaccine. Yet, flu fatalities did not increase during these years. For example, in 1996, 857 people died from the flu; in 1997, 745 people died from the flu -- typical annual numbers. In 2004, flu vaccine manufacturers were unable to produce enough flu shots to accommodate everyone who wanted a flu vaccine. (Several batches were contaminated and had to be destroyed.) Thus, only half of the population that is normally vaccinated against influenza (approximately 45 million people versus 90 million during an average year) received the vaccine. If influenza is truly a deadly disease, as officials claim, the 2004-2005 flu season should be catastrophic. If, as the CDC claims, 36,000 people die every year from the flu when 90 million people are vaccinated against the disease, how many more will die when only 45 million people are "protected? Then there's the toxic chemicals in the vaccines......I don't understand how it's worse to get the flu than to inject toxic chemicals in your body that are going to accumulate in the brain and cause problems years down the road. The trade off just doesn't make sense..... Many people who take the flu vaccine do not experience any noticeable short term side effects. However, a number of short term side effects have been reported which include muscle pain, respiratory tract infections, eye problems, abnormal blood pressure, asthma, hives and gastrointestinal problems. The more subtle, long term effects, affect everyone. According to renowned immunogeneticist Hugh Fudenberg, people who have had five flu shots over a ten year period, have increase their risk of getting Alzheimer's disease ten times. The reason being that the flu vaccine contains aluminum and mercury. As these heavy metals gradually build up in the brain they cause difficulty in multitasking, trouble with arithmetic, difficulty with thinking and language skills and memory loss. As a result of flu vaccinations the cases of Alzheimer's is expected to quadruple. Another toxic ingredient found in the flu vaccine is formaldehyde, which is known to cause cancer. Flu vaccines can also contain a number of chemical toxins, including ethylene glycol (antifreeze), formaldehyde, phenol (carbolic acid) and even antibiotics like Neomycin and streptomycin. In addition to the viruses and other additives, many vaccines also contain immune adjuvants like aluminum and squalene....This is a quote about the dangers of squalene..... According to Dr. Viera Scheibner, Ph.D., a retired principle research scientist for the government of Australia: “… this adjuvant [squalene] contributed to the cascade of reactions called "Gulf War Syndrome," documented in the soldiers involved in the Gulf War. The symptoms they developed included arthritis, fibromyalgia, lymphadenopathy, rashes, photosensitive rashes, malar rashes, chronic fatigue, chronic headaches, abnormal body hair loss, non-healing skin lesions, aphthous ulcers, dizziness, weakness, memory loss, seizures, mood changes, neuropsychiatric problems, anti-thyroid effects, anaemia, elevated ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate), systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), Raynaud’s phenomenon, Sjorgren’s syndrome, chronic diarrhoea, night sweats and low-grade fevers.”[xii] If anyone cares to do some reading these are helpful links.... I absolutely will not get the shot. One year I got the flu shot, and that year I still got the flu. |
I forgot to mention... They are stressing that pregnant women get this vaccine because it clearly stated in the MSDS that if you do the possible complications to the fetus are unknown....So I guess they're covered if something where to happen..... Pregnancy Category C: Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted with Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine or Fluzone vaccine. It is also not known whether these vaccines can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproduction capacity. Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed. |
Absolutely not. Every time I've received a regular flu shot, I've gotten sick. Worse than I probably would've gotten if I just HAD the flu! I don't want to die from something that was supposed to save me. |
Not me. And wont be getting the regular flu shot either. The swine flu one IMO is just too new and as you said, went thru rather quickly. |
Yes, I work at a Veterans Home, a hospital, clinic and residential living areas, for about 1100 vets. I get the flu shot every year, and they will be offering the H1N1 shot this year. It really does help. I see employees come to work for me and because theyve not worked in a hospital they usually catch any cold, flu et going around. After theyve worked there awile, and been vacinated they catch things much less often. Ive worked there going on 31 yrs and I swear by them. Im a smoker so I get bronchitas with every cold, the shots cut way back on the severity catching things in general. |
I have decided not to get it. I was going back and forth. But truthfully I don't ever remember getting a flu shot. I don't buy the first generation of electronics...why would I put something that is first generation into my body. The vaccine is not a live virus...therefore you can not get the flu from it. The nasal spray is a live virus and there is a possibility. My sister is pregnant also, and refuses to get it because she feels the same way. I just keep thinking about medications back in the day that they said would not harm the fetus...some of the babies were born with disabilities and abnormalities such as black teeth. I guess weigh the options and talk to your doctor is all you can do. |
I'm pregnant too... My doctor was basically pushing both flu shots on me saying I could die and it's especially dangerous for those pregnant. There is no guarantee that I won't get either flu with the shots and no guarantee that the shot is safe. The CDC will monitor as they go. Last time they tried making a swine flu vaccine in 1979 I think it was 40,000 people died from the VACCINE...yikes!!! I told my doctor I'd take my chances. |
Nope, no flu shots for me. |
Still very undecided... For awhile the H1N1 didn't seem to affect people too badly.... Now I'm beginning to hear of some pretty severe cases. hummmm... |
I'm exempt!! Getting older does have its perks.:) According to the news here, if you were born before 1958:eek:, your changes of getting it is slim. |
Great post from jp4m2. No. I will not be getting any vaccines. They are dangerous. I can't believe they are pushing these on our children. |

This is the latest lie from the CDC....CBS did a three month investigation on this so called "epidemic", it turns out many of the cases the CDC claims were the swine flu actually were not.....Just like the other lie of 36,000 people dying from the flu each year... not true either..... CBS Reveals that Swine Flu Cases Seriously Overestimated |
I had one flu shot in my entire life and had the flu twice that year...I was sick, sick, sick! My son had the same thing happen that year. They said it was probably a different strain...whatEVER. After that....no shots for him or for me. He is older now and still remembers it and will not get a flu shot nor let his son have one! I will take my chances....and if I get the typical flu symptoms, will call my doctor immediately for Tamiflu. |
I will not be getting the flu shot. I have an auto immune disease, guillian barre, that is triggered by flu antibodies. I just have to take my chance. but I am a hand washing fanatic and have not had the flu in years. Those sanitizing wipes at the grocery store are wonderful. |

..."Tamiflu is NOT a safe drug. Serious side effects include convulsions, delirium or delusions, and 14 deaths in children and teens as a result of neuropsychiatric problems and brain infections. Japan actually banned Tamiflu for children in 2007. Remember, Tamiflu went through some rough times not too long ago, as the dangers of this drug came to light when, in 2007, the FDA finally began investigating some 1,800 adverse event reports related to the drug. Additionally common side effects of Tamiflu include: * Nausea * Vomiting * Diarrhea * Headache * Dizziness * Fatigue * Cough All in all, the very symptoms you're trying to avoid. Additionally, Tamiflu has been reported to be ineffective against seasonal flu outbreaks, and may not be sufficient to combat an epidemic or pandemic. But making matters worse, some patients with influenza are at HIGHER risk for secondary bacterial infections when on Tamiflu. And secondary bacterial infections, as I mentioned earlier, was likely the REAL cause of the mass fatalities during the 1918 pandemic! But here’s the real kicker. When Tamiflu is used as directed (twice daily for 5 days) it can ONLY reduce the duration of your influenza symptoms by 1 to 1 ½ days, according to the official data. Why on earth would anyone want to take a drug that has a chance of killing you, was banned in Japan, is loaded with side effects that mimic the flu itself, costs over $100, and AT BEST can only provide 36 hours of SYMPTOM relief. Just doesn't make any sense. |

EVERY medicine made has side effects! You did not say what article you read, but my guess it is one of the natural sites. To each his own...I will take it if I get the flu. Thanks for your advice, but if people did not take meds due to possible side effects, they would die from what they needed the meds for! |
Nope! Not getting it. The last time I let a doctor talk me into any form of a flu shot some 10-12 years ago, I ended up with a terrible case of the flu. And, was sick on and off throughout that entire year. The doctor tried to tell me that it was a different stand of flu and the the shots do not cause the flu. However, having not had the shot since, I can happily say that I have not had the flu. With this new H1N1 vaccine, I feel no differently. Besides, they are no long term studies on having received verses not. And, IMO are making the vaccine WAY too fast!!! |

I will agree that every drug has it's good and bad but having said that today many drugs that come out on the market are just not safe.....106, 000 people die every year, not from prescription abuse, but from taking the drugs correctly. This figure is more than likely much high than this because of gross under reporting.....In just the past ten years a dozen drugs have been removed from the market.... frontline: dangerous prescription: a dirty dozen | PBS .....these drugs caused many deaths and serious injuries. I'm sure many of the people taking them thought of them as safe drugs.....If you where to look up "pharmaceuticals and FDA connection" you would be shocked at the process of drug approval, how clinical trials are done, fudged statistics, employees from the FDA having financial ties to drug companies, and how drugs are not pulled from the market when problems start to occur..... For me looking into this subject has been quite surprising and also very, frightening and disturbing......The more I kept reading that old saying kept coming to my mind..... " Don't believe everything you think." ...and I certainly don't anymore..... Wishing you well and stay healthy..... |
Yes, I had both the seasonal flu vaccine and the H1N1 vaccine. |
[QUOTE=MeganS;2850302]I definitely won't be getting it. I'm concerned because it went through the system SO quickly. I agree. I'll wait.:) |
