You go girl! "We want to say as an organization we're not intimidated and we won't waiver in our support of Michael Vick," Shannon said. "We believe in forgiveness and we believe in redemption so we believe that Mr. Vick should be able to move forward with his life and make a livelihood." So does this mean that we are DON'T believe in redemption and forgiveness? I agree that Vick should be able to "make an livelihood" just not in a profession that has so much influence over children! My God they don't put child molesters back in with children! |

Thanks Sweetie! You know, what I am about to say is unchristian but one thing that really bothers me about people like this is that if they ask God to forgive them they get to go to Heaven and if I hold a grudge against them I go the other way. Where is the fairness there? Off topic - sorry. |

I know, I would never be a part of it. My email was short and to the point and I said I was glad I didn't live in their town. I didn't bring up dogs at all but they knew what I meant. |
This is what I wrote: I hope you are prepared for a rash of juveniles involving themselves in dog fighting. Since you plan to “celebrate” a monster like Michael Vick, you are teaching your young people that as long as you are famous it is OK to kill, maim, and mutilate innocent creatures of God. It makes me cry to think about the damage you will be doing and the damage Michael Vick has already done. Shame on all of you! |

dailypress.com -- Hampton Roads, Virginia, news, sports, weather, real estate, jobs and cars from the Daily Press - dailypress.com I put the C of C email on the largest dog site in the world this morning and I think they don't want to be bothered with all these emails but it is their job to promote their city so lets send it to both of them and maybe they will get the message. Send these two emails to everyone on your address books and anyone else you can think of like breed clubs etc. THANKS Could someone get this on Twitter and Facebook? |

Mad I can't belive he's out but I can definitly say if they let him play proball again I will not be watching this year I refuse to support him in any way. I also am shoked that anyone would think be could be used as a role model for children what you think they belive he's instantly reformed that's a joke. |
he is such a loser,i just want to spit on him!!! |
Oh this is working.:) He is now saying it probably would not be good to be seen in public before he accepts an invitation to play for an NFL team. The city is being crashed with emails and I'll let you know more tomorrow. Thanks to all who helped. |
This was in this morning New Port News Daily Paper Newport Daily News I received an email from someone this morning saying the celebration was cancelled but I don't know them and I emailed back to see where they heard it. I am emailing the Chamber of Commerce to ask them right now. |

I think generally speaking and putting the matter simply: People dislike the fact that Vick is going to be allowed to go back to a job where he will be in the public eye and where he will be making lots of money. |
Hi Misty, so do you think it is ok for his hometown to celebrate him? Also thanks 'V' we need to keep sending emails and I haven't heard back from the C of C. yet. |

Do I think he is someone who deserves to be celebrated? No...I would probably actually go in protest if I lived there. :p He's done nothing that deserves being celebrated! I wonder, and I didn't see it anywhere, is it the actual CITY itself, as in the governing bodies, that is throwing the celebration, or is it citizens within the city? If it is actually the city itself throwing it, then that is absolutely ridiculous and no, I don't think it's acceptable. If it's the citizens themselves, then I think that is their right to do so. Although again, I think they are off their rockers and he doesn't deserve being exhaulted. And I think that if it's individuals hosting it, they should have to do it in a private location, not a public one. |

Yes it is the parents responsibility to shape and influence their children. But in this country we have too many children living in homes that do NOT have that type of parent. If we did then there would be no need for police departments and jails! How many young men (and women) do you think are out there right this very minute getting their dogs ready to fight. These children are being raised in that environment and Vick's behaviors just adds credence to it. The thought process is "OK Vick got caught but he only went to jail for a short time and is back earning millions. - So it can't be that wrong!" If we animal lovers and protectors ever hope to win the battle against abuses like dog fighting we HAVE to make sure that the punishment fits the crime and the vicious circle is broken just as in child abuse. I still can't get over the fact that Vick did not do it for the money. He did it for enjoyment! OMG! |

My scat driver yesterday brought it up lol yes really. He said people have killed people and not gotten as much punishment. I said people can talk to defend themselves and the dogs can't and he shut up.:D |

Yes, I realize what the general thought process is when children don't have a parent their taking a proactive role. While I completely support educating people on the enormity of the problem and working to promote stricter punishments, I don't feel like it is my responsibility or right to make those decisions on behalf of other parents, regardless to how much I disagree with their methods. That being said, I don't think it's right to celebrate it...I think what he did was horrible and doesn't deserved being recognized in a positive manner. Does that make sense? I don't condone or agree with what they are choosing to celebrate, but I think they are within their right to do so. People and organizations convene all the time for reasons I may not agree with, but I understand it's their 'right to assemble.' (Serioulsy, it makes me realize there are some seriously deluded people out there. Why on Earth would you celebrate him!?) |
Misty, I think as a hometown or any town they have the right to try to plan one but would people let that happen is yet to see. No news today on this yet. |
|
No, no news from this end. Did you write any letters to the editor of any of the area newspapers about the celebration? I wrote the Chamber again and let them know that I thought they had influence over situations like that and they should use rather than copping out like they did. |
