I don't have kids yet so I haven't had a connection with the book in a way that a mother might. But I've read it a couple of times. I've even read it with my husband before we were married. I can honestly say that stories like the book, the one written here, ones that some of the member have shared about themselves, or ones that you hear about other places really makes you think. I don't even know if "stories" is a good word for it because its almost sound like they are made up and they aren't they are people's lives. But I've really learned to appreciate what I have and have been given through out my life because of them. Everytime I hear something like that I'm surprised that it happened. I didn't live a sheltered life, my parents didn't lock me away from the rest of the world but I guess sometimes its just easy to not really look at the rest of the world, not realize what else is out there. I thank my parents for everything that they have given me and am hurt when I hear that someone didn't have as good of, or a better childhood than mine, everyone deserves it.

We had a similar case in NJ a couple of years ago, only they were foster children. (I believe there were 3 boys - others from this area might have better recall.) The sad thing is that they were only discovered when a neighbor found one of them eating out of their garbage can and called the authorities.

The biological children were well fed, while the fosters were in the same shape as this poor child, but at least still alive.

You guys should read the book "A child called it" if you haven't already. The story is very similar to this except the child has no disabilities. Its so sad I cried the whole way through it. Its by Dave Pelzer, if anyone is interested.

That's terrible. Poor little boy. The mom will eventually get what she deserves in one way or another. I read the book A Child Called It. I also read the the other two from the trilogy. The second is called A Lost Boy and the third is called A Man Named Dave. They're all very good books, and they pick up where the last one left off. If anyone has time I recommend reading them all. You won't be disappointed.

oh my gosh i remember that!!! that was so awful! it was 2 or 3 years ago and i was like 9 or so, but i'll never forget that!

It was four boys - it was very shocking. The one eating from the garbage can was nineteen and only weighed fifty pounds. They were eating the walls. Justing thinking about it again makes me angry.

That is horrible, how could someone possibly do that to their own children. And to think she had two others ... and they would see their brother left like that. Thats just disheartening.

Wow, that IS incredibly disturbing. My older brother has cerebral palsy and I can't even imagine anyone letting something like that happen to him. I don't understand how people can be so cruel...
