Awww, I see Keelys momma is no longer a member.:( If you're still reading this I hope you reconsider and come back. I have a 14 yr. old daughter who is very passionate about animal rights too and she is often frustrated that her friends don't seem to "get it". Y'all are our future and I think it's awesome that your passion is animals when so many girls your age are more worried about getting a new Juicy Couture purse or who's dating who or god forbid... the Jonas Brothers.:p |
I hope she comes back to! It's hard sometimes to read the rosey threads when you are in the trenches and see the reality. She works hard at her job, and I'm sure it is painful at times. Masybe she needs a YT break. If she is reading, I wish her luck! |

I hope she comes back too, When I was her age I was the same way, still am to an extent with certain things. I was hoping she wouldn't leave, it can be hard being new and being so young. Just from what I have seen in threads and stuff it seems that the more active population here is older. No offense to anyone here!:) (that may come out worse than I mean for it too!) |
I do not like big dogs. I would never own one. But do i think they deserve to be kept outside not at all. No disresect to anybody here, but, its almost funny hw all the people that keep dogs outside say the same thing. "But my dog LOVES to be outside in the cold" Even though when you walk by there house, the dog is whining. |

I doubt that people who care enough to go online and discuss dogs are the ones neglecting their pets. |

I agree  |

Wow, that was very rude. The reason an outside dog my whine when it sees you walk by the house is the same reason my inside dogs whine if I walk by them in the house. They don't understand why you are walking by and not saying hi and petting them.:) Dogs aren't always whining because they are sad, they also whine to get your attention, or when they are super excited. Diesel whines terrible when he gets excited. Just because some outside dogs are neglected, doesn't mean all are. Thats like saying that all inside dogs are abused because some are. Dogs are dogs, not people. Some are bred to spend most of their time outside, plain and simple. |

Also, just because a dog is outside, doesn't mean he's been left out there. We used to let our golden go outside in the yard for a couple hours a day when it wasn't raining or snowing outside in addition to his walks so he could bask in the sun and enjoy the weather. He loved it. I remember one day it was about to rain and I tried to get him inside... he wouldn't come in for ANYTHING. I opened the fence (he wouldn't run off) and went inside hoping he'd follow, brought him treats, I tried laying treats down in a line to the door, tried to drag him inside (which probably looked funny to the neighbors because I'm about 100 lbs soaking wet and he weighed about as much as me), I tried pushing him out of the fence, etc... nothing would make that dog move! Now tell me that he didn't want to be outside? Oh he was SO mistreated!!!! |
I think those of you with outdoor dogs have explained that they can be well taken care of and well loved outdoors. I certainly don't think anyone on this forum would neglect their pets. I think the op probably sees neglected dogs outside- especially harsh in Canada. There are few breeds that could withstand a Canadian winter outside all of the time, especially without shelter. I think she was just so upset by what she has seen, understandably IMO, that she was just having a hard time wrapping her mind around the fact that some dogs want to be outside and depending on the climate and shelter provided them, can be perfectly happy that way. I totally understand that her tone was insulting to some of you. I just wish sometimes we would take a person's age into consideration. Instead of jumping on her about not using the proper tone to teach us, maybe we could find the proper tone to teach her. I have a very animal passionate daughter and we have to talk all of the time about the proper and effective way to portray your message. It's not something most of us are born knowing. I think we should all applaud Keelymomma for being so aware and caring so much at her age. |

Actually now we weren't referring to her at all. |
Umm, I wasnt referring to you guys. I was reffering to every dog owner i have met that tells me that line. Meanwhile you can tell there dogs are suffering.. Geeesh. I dont see how anybody thatis posting here and bashing is ANY better then the OP when it cimes to tones. |

It's difficult to not develop a tone when people you have never even met are basically calling you a liar and accusing others that they never met of being neglectful and unfit pet owners :) You said: Quote:
