Kinda nervous... I have an eye dr. appt. today- anyone wear glasses or contacts? Well guys I finally broke down and made an appointment for an eye doctor. I go today at 2:15, but I am so nervous!!!! About a year ago I noticed I was really have trouble seeing at night, especially when it was raining and of course dark! I decided I could live with that, but more recently I find that I can't see so clear! :eek: It used to take a few seconds for the TV guide on the television to clear up, but now it always stays blurry. I am making more mistakes with typing at work, and have a hard time focusing on words if they are grouped in large paragraphs. I also can't see people avatars really well unless they are the larger donating ones :eek: I am scared to think that glasses or contacts may be in my future!!! I know people do it everyday but I hate fussing with extra steps and always loose things (think sunglasses). Is an eye appointment scary? I know I have been before but it would have been in the middle of high school and sadly that is now over ten years ago! Help me!! |
This morning , I had an appointment. Its not scary . I had to read letters . Later on they placed a yellow liquid in each eyes to evaluate how strong they were . They'll ask you to have someone with you to take you home . They said I don't need glasses . |
I know I need to go I cant read small print in a book or directions on a food box. I bought a pair of reading glasses and they have been helping so far |
Don't be nervous! I used to be such a baby...I couldn't even put eye drops in. The idea of going to the eye doctor and wearing contacts made me cringe. But the eye doctor is a quick an easy exam and learning to put contacts in is no problem! Plus, just think how nice it will be when you can see clearly. Now if I could just get up the nerve to do lasik surgery... |
I don't know any thing else, but the contact lense world. :cool: I started wearing glasses in 1982. Then- when I was in High School I started wearing contacts. I've been doing the contact thing for 20 years! :D Don't worry, if you do have to get them...you'll adjust and it will be a whole new world...knowing you can see everything clearer.:thumbup: |
OK the eye doctor is not scary at all. They have reversal drops for the dilating drops now so you don't have to go 2 days with dilated eyes like before. The numbing liquid feels weird but goes away in like 30 minutes. My eye doctor has a machine that just zaps your eyes and spits out the Rx, no more reading letters :) (I used to memorize the eye charts when i was a kid, i thought it was more important to get it right! HA!) I've had glasses since 2nd grade and contacts since 8th. You get used to it. It's not at all like sunglasses. I loose sunglasses too and I've never lost my glasses. The worst I've ever done is forgotten to take extra contacts with on vacation. :rolleyes: |
Aww thanks you guys!! I guess when I think of seeing clearly the appointment really isn't so scary! I hate change so the thought of having to wear contacts everyday totally freaks me out, but I am sure I would get used to it. I hope my dr has the eye zapper so I don't have to read all the letters- I do remember that and HATED it because I hate getting things wrong!! LoL! I will let you know what they say this afternoon. oh you will be fine! :) I've worn glasses since I was SIX !!! I've since had surgery and do not wear glasses or contacts. Going to the eye doctor is the most easiest doctor to go too! Trust me! You will be fine!!!!! Plus if you need glasses...there are alot of cute ones now! Think how cute you'll look!!! :) |
I've worn glasses since the 1st grade and then got contacts as a 6th grader. I mainly just wear my glasses nowadays though because I have problems with my eyes being really dry. I have never lost my glasses either. When you become dependent on them to be able to see clearly, even just to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, you'll remember where you put them!:rolleyes: Eye appointments are no big deal and definitely nothing painful involved! You'll probably have to read some charts, and he'll probably shine really bright lights in your eyes so he can check them out. Sometimes, they'll have me look into this machine thing and focus on a picture that is really far away- then the machine blows a little poof of air into your eye. I really don't know what that does but it doesn't hurt but it might make you jump a little!:D |
The eye doctor is easy as pie. You'll be just fine. |
K girls I am getting less nervous. I do remember that air puff thing and HATE it! I got in trouble last time for not sitting still through it ;) I am thinking I am going to have to go with contacts though- there is no way I can give up all my fancy sunglasses- unless they can put prrscription lenses in my Coach and Kate Spade sunglasses! |
I have an astigmatism (sp?) and that interferes with my night driving a little due to how the light hits my eyes ( or something like that) But the eye doctor said I didn't need glasses for everyday use , just for driving at night, if I feel I need them. I also wanted to add during the eye test when the doctor is saying "Better one , Better two" over and over again ...don't get nervous and just say a number ( like I did the first time:rolleyes:) I ended up with the wrong prescription and had to do it again , so take your time and really see what is clearer :D |

I used to think that if one number didn't look any different than a second, that there was something wrong with me, but that isn't the case. The doctor is just doing a very careful evaluation of your vision and is trying to get the whole picture. |
I'll take the eye dr. any day (over the GYN)LOL,.I've been wearing glasses as far back as I can remember, thanks to the lasik I've been glasses free for the last 10 years, some how my arms are getting shorter now, and to be able to read ,I'm starting to get the paper far away from my face :eek:.If there is no correction for this, I will be wearing glasses again, but you have absolutely nothing to be afraid of. There are so many cute frames now, just thing of the possibilities:cool: |
