Kinda nervous... I have an eye dr. appt. today- anyone wear glasses or contacts? Well guys I finally broke down and made an appointment for an eye doctor. I go today at 2:15, but I am so nervous!!!! About a year ago I noticed I was really have trouble seeing at night, especially when it was raining and of course dark! I decided I could live with that, but more recently I find that I can't see so clear! It used to take a few seconds for the TV guide on the television to clear up, but now it always stays blurry. I am making more mistakes with typing at work, and have a hard time focusing on words if they are grouped in large paragraphs. I also can't see people avatars really well unless they are the larger donating ones  I am scared to think that glasses or contacts may be in my future!!! I know people do it everyday but I hate fussing with extra steps and always loose things (think sunglasses). Is an eye appointment scary? I know I have been before but it would have been in the middle of high school and sadly that is now over ten years ago! Help me!! |
This morning , I had an appointment. Its not scary . I had to read letters . Later on they placed a yellow liquid in each eyes to evaluate how strong they were . They'll ask you to have someone with you to take you home . They said I don't need glasses . |
I know I need to go I cant read small print in a book or directions on a food box. I bought a pair of reading glasses and they have been helping so far |
Don't be nervous! I used to be such a baby...I couldn't even put eye drops in. The idea of going to the eye doctor and wearing contacts made me cringe. But the eye doctor is a quick an easy exam and learning to put contacts in is no problem! Plus, just think how nice it will be when you can see clearly. Now if I could just get up the nerve to do lasik surgery... |
I don't know any thing else, but the contact lense world. I started wearing glasses in 1982. Then- when I was in High School I started wearing contacts. I've been doing the contact thing for 20 years! :D Don't worry, if you do have to get them...you'll adjust and it will be a whole new world...knowing you can see everything clearer. |
OK the eye doctor is not scary at all. They have reversal drops for the dilating drops now so you don't have to go 2 days with dilated eyes like before. The numbing liquid feels weird but goes away in like 30 minutes. My eye doctor has a machine that just zaps your eyes and spits out the Rx, no more reading letters :) (I used to memorize the eye charts when i was a kid, i thought it was more important to get it right! HA!) I've had glasses since 2nd grade and contacts since 8th. You get used to it. It's not at all like sunglasses. I loose sunglasses too and I've never lost my glasses. The worst I've ever done is forgotten to take extra contacts with on vacation. |
Aww thanks you guys!! I guess when I think of seeing clearly the appointment really isn't so scary! I hate change so the thought of having to wear contacts everyday totally freaks me out, but I am sure I would get used to it. I hope my dr has the eye zapper so I don't have to read all the letters- I do remember that and HATED it because I hate getting things wrong!! LoL! I will let you know what they say this afternoon. Thank you! |
oh you will be fine! :) I've worn glasses since I was SIX !!! I've since had surgery and do not wear glasses or contacts. Going to the eye doctor is the most easiest doctor to go too! Trust me! You will be fine!!!!! Plus if you need glasses...there are alot of cute ones now! Think how cute you'll look!!! :) |
I've worn glasses since the 1st grade and then got contacts as a 6th grader. I mainly just wear my glasses nowadays though because I have problems with my eyes being really dry. I have never lost my glasses either. When you become dependent on them to be able to see clearly, even just to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, you'll remember where you put them! Eye appointments are no big deal and definitely nothing painful involved! You'll probably have to read some charts, and he'll probably shine really bright lights in your eyes so he can check them out. Sometimes, they'll have me look into this machine thing and focus on a picture that is really far away- then the machine blows a little poof of air into your eye. I really don't know what that does but it doesn't hurt but it might make you jump a little!:D |
The eye doctor is easy as pie. You'll be just fine. |
K girls I am getting less nervous. I do remember that air puff thing and HATE it! I got in trouble last time for not sitting still through it ;) I am thinking I am going to have to go with contacts though- there is no way I can give up all my fancy sunglasses- unless they can put prrscription lenses in my Coach and Kate Spade sunglasses! |
I have an astigmatism (sp?) and that interferes with my night driving a little due to how the light hits my eyes ( or something like that) But the eye doctor said I didn't need glasses for everyday use , just for driving at night, if I feel I need them. I also wanted to add during the eye test when the doctor is saying "Better one , Better two" over and over again ...don't get nervous and just say a number ( like I did the first time:rolleyes:) I ended up with the wrong prescription and had to do it again , so take your time and really see what is clearer :D |

Don't be afraid, like everyone else has said, the eye test is pain free. I used to think that if one number didn't look any different than a second, that there was something wrong with me, but that isn't the case. The doctor is just doing a very careful evaluation of your vision and is trying to get the whole picture. |
I'll take the eye dr. any day (over the GYN)LOL,.I've been wearing glasses as far back as I can remember, thanks to the lasik I've been glasses free for the last 10 years, some how my arms are getting shorter now, and to be able to read ,I'm starting to get the paper far away from my face .If there is no correction for this, I will be wearing glasses again, but you have absolutely nothing to be afraid of. There are so many cute frames now, just thing of the possibilities:cool: |
It's so great to know you can post a quick question or concern and get tons of support! I sure love you guys!! I am getting ready to leave for the dr. I will update as soon as I get back! |
Don't be nervous! I've had glasses since about 3rd grade and right after my junior year of high school started, I got contacts and have had them ever since. I think they're the greatest thing ever! It does get annoying at times when something gets in your eye though, but I like them so much better than glasses. It takes a bit to get used to them when you're first using them, but the results are worth it. Good luck! You'll be fine! |
K guys, I guess I'm in the secret eye club now ;) I have astigmatism (sp??) and was told that I shouldn't be driving w/o corrective lenses (oops) but they taught me how to use contacts and I have them in now.. my eyes feel kind of dry and funny, and the computer isn't as clear as I thought it would be, neither is the TV so maybe it takes a while? Or the prescription isn't perfect? Well see, I have to go back in two weeks so we'll go from there. I HATED the wind thingy- hopefully I won't have to do that for a long time! |
Welcome to the club!:D I have an astigmatism too. It may take you a little bit to get used to wearing the contacts but before long they shouldn't bother you at all. I wanted to mention early but forgot earlier..you might want to consider getting a pair of glasses, cheap frames or whatever, so you have something to wear on days you just don't feel like putting your contacts in...like late at night or if your sick, etc... |
OH- I hate that wind thing too! :D Yes it kinda takes about a day or two for the your eyes to adjust to the blurryness. I go through that every year when they change my presciption. As for the dryness just blink or use your drops. Congrats & Welcome to the club! |
Oh Amanda, no need to worry . it is a piece of cake . . just be happy you are only now needing one . . .I've had to wear contacts/glasses since my college days yuk! |

Get the Nerve!! Hubby couldnt see anything and was having problems with eye infections from his contacts. He had the lasik surgery and walked of the office being able to see. The next day he could see 20/15 in each eye. His eyes didnt hurt just felt very dry. The best part is that it has gotten so affordable. We only paid a little over 4,000 wich if you add up glasses and contacts for 10 years your coming out better off. I have contacts cause my eyes are to dry but I cant have the surgery so I am stuck with glasses. I can still see without my glasses just not as good as with them so Its not that bad. |
A piece a cake, you have no worries, take it from someone thats been going through just about everything with eye tests. A year and a half ago i developed Macular Degeneration in my left eye, so i had to get shots to my eye, but the damage was done and cant be helped as it is directly in my line of vision. Coupe of mo. ago it went to my good right eye, but hope we caught it early enough, Doc said we got a good chance with that one...god i pray so...as now i cant read unless big letters, talking about scary...but let me tell you , i was scared to death when i had yo go in for my first shot as it sounds awfull...but you know , it does not hurt as awfull as it soundsm it just burns a wee bit for a couple of days,,,i be going gladly just go in for tests. Wishing you good luck with the tests ! |
I have been wear my glasses just switched back to my contacts yesterday. I remember when I first tried contacts which was like a little over a year. I had to drive to my dad's house which is like 2 hours away to get them. It took me like 45 minutes to put them in my eyes the first time... So I am driving home and was thinking these are not clear at all. I started to feel a little sick and got a headache. Anyway...I get home and tried to take them out. My BF comes in and sees me poking at my eye trying to get the darn things out and it turns out one of them fell out along the way home. (I never found it...:confused:) So I had to drive back and I made sure to get an extra pair. I am eventually going to get the corrective surgery but I want to wait and make sure to wait until they are done changing which the doctor said around 25. |

Well I'm glad you got them checked and can see now :) |
Well, here's an update after wearing them for a few days- I don't think I like them. I know I need to talk to the Dr. about this but first of all they make my close up stuff all blurry, second of all my eyes KILL me but about 3pm and third of all I just don't like them! I am going to ask the dr. if they are the correct prescription. At this time I am kind of going towards a pair of glasses and sunglasses, just to wear when driving or watching television, movies, etc. I am not sure....... I really like the idea of just taking them off when I want to. But, I know there are a lot of contact lense options out there that may work for me. We'll see... I am going to call their office later today and see what they think. |
