If it wasn't for my son who is high functioning Autistic we would have already moved back up to maybe somewhere between Piney Flats and Abingdon. But, we live in the metro Atlanta area and the resources here are incredible. Not like in that area. The county we live in has the best special needs program in the state and it is in the public school system. Anyway good luck to you & your husband on your job search. | |

| ![]() Val, first of all (just for you!), Olivia, my bf and I will move into the condo to help you pay bills for a while!! ![]() Since your parents live in the area, I would recommend using their address on your resumes. I was advised to use a local address in a college practicum course. You can also give them your parent's phone number, have your parents take messages when employers call, and then you can call them back. I played phone-tag with my current employer during the hiring process. I'm sure it happens on a large scale, so they wouldn't think anything of it. I would ordinarily say you should never quit one job without another lined up, but it would be a shame for you to miss a good deal on our future home! (LOL!) If you have to wait tables, then do that. You don't need cable, internet (we'll call you daily to fill you in on YT!!) or some of the other "luxuries" at first if that's what it takes. You've got Sully and your hubby, and that's all you need! Go for it, girl! |

| ![]() Hi Val, I recently moved to Chicago from Connecticut, and ran into the same problem UNTIL...I put a Chicago address on my resume and cover letter!!! I can't even tell you what a difference that made. My boyfriend was already living in Chicago when I was looking for a new job, so I just used his address. I went from two weeks of absolutely no calls or emails to getting seven interviews and landing my new job within 3 weeks of changing my address. A lot of times, recruiters filter by geographic area so you may not show up on their radar even though you're qualified for the job. Just food for thought! ![]() |

I just read your response to my husband who wanted to bang his head against the wall if he had only thought to use my parents' local address on our resumes. Well we will from now on! THANK YOU!!!!

| ![]() Yay! You guys are getting me excited now! Question: Any advice for apartment-hunting long distance? My dad went to look at that EastBridge condo today and he said it was only so-so. (But he knows zero about renting.) So before we sign papers at EastBridge, I want to look around JUST to be sure! How can I find the best place (or top two...I can go down there and decide) I just need to narrow it down a bit!

![]() My parents travel a lot and I would worry about them when I couldn't reach them, so I added them to my Verizon plan (for just $9.99 a month). Because I got it here they have a local Jersey number. That way no one knows where you really are... Most cell plans offer something similar, and the added bonus for me is that we can talk any time without using up minutes from the plan.
