How much do you spend for each of your children for Christmas? I was wondering how much do you spend for each kid for Christmas? I only have one child. I always spent around $1,000 but now, I don't have that kind of money. What do most people spend? |
Wow you spend alot!!!! I have one child at home and one thats on his own and I spend $200-300 on them. |
I've never spent that much on me, hubby or any of my kids for Christmas or birthdays. That's pretty extravigant even if your well off and have only 1 child. They seem to get too spoiled and want more. ;) |

We probably spend $200 per child....which I have always felt like was plenty, but mine are little and they like just about anything. Tammy |
About $300 on each. Doesn't buy much these days especially with the things they have on their want list! |
Without necessarily intending to...I easily spend what you did, Denise. |

And that comment is....pretty judgemental. |

Well, when they were younger it was easier to get away with spending less but mine are 12 and 14 now. I still try to take it easy since they have so many grandparents and aunts/uncles that want to get them stuff. It usually comes to $200 or a little more for each of them. Oh, how I remember the days when we could just buy packages of baby diapers and plastic baby bottles, even a big box of colors and they would be so happy! Mine are really very easy though and don't ask for much so with the economy as it is now, that's a blessing! But I do have to say that my parents had a larger budget than mine when I was a kid. My sister and I made out pretty well at Christmas but then we didn't get much stuff (besides necessities) during the year. My parents had a special Christmas account that got added to all year long so that they could splurge on us at Christmas. |
Idk what the exact amount we spend on my DD (only child)..but between us, my parents and my in-laws, she normallys gets whatever is on her list. Although, she is more of a giver than a receiver (like me)...and would rather $$ be spent else where, but we always make her write down her wish list (no matter what it is) With that being said....she knows the true meaning of Christmas, so she would be happy with nothing at all! :love-hug1 |
We are not spending near as much as we used to now. I truely believe that this country in itself has become rather spoiled. Can you believe there were people in line for 42" tvs the day after thanksgiving complaining about the economy?? And how they cannot get their kids much for Christmas because of it  Yet they are buying themselves 42" plasmas. Commercialism has turned Christmas into the season of giving. Yes, we are supposed to give, but that is totally different than the type of giving that we see so often. I have witnessed over the years, the most ungrateful, spoiled children in this country. I mean, good grief, a 6 year old does not have any need for a $300 ipod!! I have seen first hand, family members children who are so unhappy on Christmas morning because they didn't get all of the gifts on their lists! I truely believe that this is very damaging to a child. Its unbelievable the amount of people that are one welfare that have high speed internet for their new laptops, cell phones, and cable. Our priorities are truely warped anymore. So I am trying to do what I can to help my children appreciate what they have and what they get, as well as learn what real priorities are. We used to spend about $300 on each child, but we are spending under $100 on each now, and are mostly doing combined family gifts. |
I'm still pretty young (((21))) and my parents spend anywhere from about $500-$750 on me for Christmas...but that doesn't include all the things that I put on their credit cards ;) lol...gotta love being the only girl! :) |
I have 3 kids, 2 g-kids, a son in law, one son has a fiance and one son has a g-friend. A couple times, I spent about $3000 a piece on them, but, now with the sons fiance/girlfriend, I'm only spending $225 on each of the g-kids, and $250 a piece on all 6 of the older ones. We've really cut back |

Thanks for everyones comments. Even when we spent $1,000 on her and her Birthday is Dec 17th. That $1,000 doesn't even count that. She has everything now except for a IPOD. She doesn't want one because it cost money to download songs. LOL Anyway, She is going to be 16 on Dec. 17th. I am giving her a party and a limo ride for 2 hours. She is also letting her best friend spend the night and going out to eat. When I was a kid, I didn't get that much due to having a twin sister and an older brother. When I was a teenager, I got $100.00. Now that I'm 42 I get to share $50.00 with my husband and daughter. Next year we will not get anything from my parents. That is fine with me because I rather give then receive. Money is really hard to come by. Even with Caitlin getting $1,000 worth of presents, we always donate a lot to a family in need. She is not getting that much this year. She tosses everything to the side like she is saying: NEXT and I'm kinda sick of it. She thinks she's a princess!!! I know it's my fault. She has special needs and I spoiled her. |
We have cut back this year also....... We buy for 3 daughters, their husbands and 6 Grandchildren. (plus our parents). We are cutting back.... about 25% less this year. $230 on the kids, $130 on the Grandkids, and $100 on parents. It really adds up as our family grows.... and as it gets bigger.... we will cut back even more. |
My mom used to go out of her way for Christmas. It's sickening now to think back on how much she'd spend on my brother & I a piece. I was a spoiled brat. I'm only 20 now but I don't expect anything from anyone anymore. It used to be who got the better gifts for Christmas between my friends & I... I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that crap anymore. I think it's really ridiculous now that I look back on it and I wish I would've told my mom then to not buy me that much crap, what's the point really? Sorry if I don't make any sense but one of the replies bothered me a little. |
I admit it...I'm a Christmas gift junkie. I have three kids and spend around $1,000 or so on each . That's because they are older and like video games , electronics and such . It was less when they were babies . They are good boys and usually don't ask for much , I just enjoy getting them things because they are always appreciative of it and take care of their things . If they didn't I may feel differently ;) We do aside money for Christmas so it doesn't come out all at once. That makes it much easier. |
Amelia's gifts total around £200 and that's for 3 large toys and then some small stuff. I know she's only a baby but it's her first Christmas and she's mobile now so there is a ton of things that she can have. It's also her birthday in January so some of the things I want to get her will wait till then. I'm sure as she gets older the gifts will total more. |
I don't have kids but I wanted to comment on the TV thing. A lot of the people standing in line to get the TV's were *just* getting a TV. As in, the whole family agreed they would just buy the $400 TV and then that was it for Christmas, no individual gifts. That makes sense to me. But we are stay-at-home people. We wait for movies to come out on DVD. :D I decided to make most of our gifts this year, which is great except I think I have spent as much on fabric as I would have spent on gifts!!! But it's definitely more fun. Actually I should be sewing right now! :sewmachin |

I use to spend about 700-800 on my dtr but last year when we were reunited with our birth son and he's married I had to cut back and this year I will cut back a little more. I bought them each one nice gift (approx $250) and then a few other gifts. My dtr also is graduating from college 12/21st which really is hard but I bought her gift a few months ago and just paid it off. Plus we are having a party for her that day too! |
I have 2 kids and spend $300-$400 on each. |

I have 3 children and spend about 250-300 on each. Its always easier with the little ones (playdoh sets, tea set, barbies, baby dolls etc) but my 13 yr old is another store lol |
My son, an only child, will be 7 in on Jan. 6th so I always get his christmas and birthday presents at the same time. I spend $200 for christmas and $150 for his birthday. Thats the way its been since he was a baby. He gets presents from several other family members too, so it seems like he always ends up with a lot anyway. |
