| Wish me luck! Sorry, I've not been online much but I do try to check in when I can. I've been real busy as of late. A friend of mine and myself are hoping to maintain the city's dog pound in order to help the dogs find their forever home. We do have to go before the city council and give our presentation. We do have about 20 volunteers that has already signed up, and 2 of those volunteers are board members. I have already found programs that will donate the food and I have a couple of vets that has agreed to donate their time and skill to give the dogs a check over and even give us a discount on shots, spay/neuter, or any other procedures if need be. Our big goal is to be able to completely take over the dog pound and turn it in to an animal shelter for our county. We don't have a shelter or a rescue in our county. So, we are starting out small and working our way up. Even if the city tells us no, we won't be giving up. Wish me luck and pray that they don't tell us no and that we can use the pound as a starting place to find these fur babies a forever home.

| Thanks everyone! We are still waiting to go before the board. We were going to present the presentation on the 11th, but they put everything off until Dec. 9th because they were swearing in new board members. Which that was ok with us. That way it will give us more time to get some more research done and to make sure we got everything covered that they will ask. I'm nervous but at the same time I'm excited. LOL! I'll let ya'll know something when I find out. Just keep those fingers crossed!

| Update!!! Sorry, I didn't get to update ya'll sooner than this. I've been really busy with this. The city council board members didn't tell us no. They did say they would prefer us to be an non profit organization. So, I'm working on that part. They did assign us a committee of 4 board members to meet with and to work all the kinks out for us to actually take over the pound. There is alot of work ahead of me and I'm preparing myself for it. Because I know it will be frustrating, but in the end it will be worth it, seeing those loving animals find loving homes and getting to be the pet that they are suppose to be. Just continue to wish me luck and maybe say a prayer or two for me and my friend Tabi.

| Sounds like a fantastic thing you're trying to do. Good luck. The thing I like about our animal shelter is they have vouchers, we pay $60 and that pays to have your pet spayed/neutered. They don't go by your income. If you get it, you may want to check with some of the local vets and see if they would honor the vouchers. Some of our vets charge a small surcharge fee, others don't. Then to have the blood work done, it's extra $, but, still the vouchers help out quite a lot with the expense Last edited by phfgkl; 12-17-2008 at 06:45 AM. |
