This has to be a joke. |
I think PETA does bring to light a lot of important issues that we would never know about otherwise (I've never been on a dairy farm or on a pig or chicken farm, so I would never know how they are treated unless someone took the time to take photos and vidoes and make the public aware of it) but I also think they go about it in a weird way. Like I remember reading a while ago about an anti-abortion place that mailed to hundreds of random people a plastic mini baby fetus (the size it would be in your body when you abort it) and a lot of people were really upset by that. In fact, a lot of the people they mailed it to were against abortions but they still thought it was disgusting and inappropriate. So while I think PETA really does have the animals best interest at heart, they should go about their business in a little better way and maybe if they did, people would take them more seriously. It's not good when people think your organization is crazy or full of nut jobs. |

Think of all the crack heads and other malnurished shady lady's who would sell their milk. Would they test these women first and would all the testing make the ice-cream much more expensive. If they don't want to use cow milk anymore, they should look into useing Rice Dream rice drink enriched with vitamins A,D, B12 & calcium. It comes in vanilla and chocolate and is just totally delicious. I even blend babanas and blueberry's with it. YUMMY!!! |

Regardless that it's absurd ...the campaign is a success...we are discussing it. I do notice Peta targeted Ben and Jerry's....and not the National Diary Farmer's Association. |
Peta sucks PETA officials say a move to human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health. An example of good money down the toilet.. all who support PETA they suck the milk themselves..:p |
Wow. Let me ask something. If humans did not consume other mammals, how long do you think it would take for the US to be a giant waste zone overrun with animals? How is animal population controlled? What I disagree with is treating a living being harshly or hurting them for no reason, just to save money or think its funny or taking out your aggression (workers who purposely hurt the animals). These are still living animals that FEEL pain. I think the health problems in our country come from fast food and overprocessed food. While human milk MAY have more health benefits, the stigma attached to that whole idea would put companies out of business. We, as a whole society, are used to cows milk (not ALL of us, but a majority). I know, mentality wise, I couldn't drink human milk. I am an adult, not a baby. So I wouldn't buy B&Js again. JMHO! |

If Ben & Jerry's wants to stop using cow's milk, then they should use Rice Dream but please do not use a woman's milk!! Like another poster said, what about crack heads and people who do drugs or have STD's or something? Are they going to do blood tests and other tests to make sure these milk donors are safe? That would be a big waste of money and I still would not feel comfortable with that. |

Ya gotta admit, there is almost no greater irony. |
I've always pondered what would cause the first person to grab a cow's udder...to think...let's taste whatever comes out. I'm thinking it was a man. |

Listen, everyone. PETA gets their point across by making outlandish statements. They know that Ben and Jerry's won't use human breast milk in ice cream. Their goal was to get people to discuss the treatment of dairy cows, which they consider to be cruel. And by the looks of the discussion on this thread, they have succeeeded. I know PETA goes about their mission in ways that many consider crazy, but it works. They are very smart. |

2 Attachment(s) I think we have to all be in agreement that this was a very successful campaign. The goal was to get people talking and guess what.... 4 pages worth so far. I just picked my daughter up from her Speech nd Debate meeting. Guess what they talked about? I couldn't believe it because I hadn't even heard about it until this thread. How many things to you think spark conversation on the dairy industry amongst middle schoolers? Many people actually do not know about the dairy industry. A while back I actually got in a "discussion" with my own mother (who is an intelligent college educated woman) because she was convinced that dairy cows were a whole breed unto themselves who just continued to produced milk after birth for however long it was being collected. She honestly didn't believe that they were forced to have baby after baby to produce that milk. This is the side benefit of the dairy industry btw. Don't let it upset you- they aren't baby cows, they are veal and if we want those cows to produce milk we have to deal with the "veal" right? |

It was when I was outside of Madison, Wisconsin - and this place was selling apples and they had these little calves in these white, plastic, solid pens (not very hidden either). And they were chained a certain way to restrict movement (so as not to develop their muscles) - and they'd try to stand, but since they didn't really have developed muscles, they really couldn't. They were extremely confined, covered in their own filth, and couldn't really move. But, at the same time - adorable - bc you know what baby cows look like, just adorable. :( |
and I just finished off my B&J's butter pecan :( |

I think we as americans injest way too many animal products. For being such a rich country, you would think we wouldnt be so flooded in health issues. But all that aside, I am not against eating meat or dairy. I believe we should be eating wayyyyyyy less of it, but I don't believe its a sin or a crime. I do find it odd that we are the only living being that deliberately injests another living creatures breastmilk, but yet many people in this country are grossed out by the thought of breastfeeding. I say this as I am nursing my 15 month old, lol. I believe peta is basically a cult. I don't have an ounce of respect for anyone that believes the rights of an animal comes before an unborn childs right to be born. |
I realize not all dairy farms are the same - but I drive by one almost everyday and the cows DO laze around eating grass, etc in the pasture all day, every day. Now, this is an independent dairy farmer and I completely understand that not all dairy farms operate this way - but you can't generalize that all dairy cows have a horrible life. That said, the local radio station had a hey day today with the potential for breast milk in Ben & Jerry's. As you know, B&J is famous for funny named ice cream flavors - so the radio station had a contest for "creative" names for ice cream containing breast milk. I only heard the program for a few mins, so I didn't hear very many. Here are a few I remember, (the callers had to describe the ice cream and then give the name). Vanilla ice cream with graham cracker crumbles called: Mamagram Bubble gum flavored ice cream called: Boobalicious A layer of chocolate A layer of vanilla Topped with tin roof sundae Called: Triple Stacked Anyway, you get the picture. The hosts and callers were having great fun! |

peta sucks and is a BIG waste of time get a life and try to save the dogs.. not euthanize them all PETA kills dogs for no good reason...they SUCK:animal-pa |
PETA is rediculous...seriously..I'm for animal rights, but they are way too extreme :thumbdown I seriously don't believe they are the animal-loving group they pretend to be either...they don't even think we should be allowed to have pets :thumbdown Crazy.. And seriously..it's a COW..they produce milk and meat for humans to consume (and for animals higher on the food chain to eat if they can get ahold of one). I don't always think they are treated the best either and think improvements could definitely be made, but I think it's rediculous to think people would stop drinking cow's milk. |
