I just had my hair colored and it is way too dark. It was light brown with a lot of blond highlights and I wanted to go dark but it is such a big difference I'm freaking out a little. I know it will lighten a lot because of how much blond was in it but in the meantime I'm, well, freaking out. It's really dark. I'm thinking about going ahead and washing it. Any color experts out there? What do y'all think?:confused:

I've done this before and I read somewhere to use dish soap like Dawn and wash your hair in it a few times, apparently it strips the color somewhat.

It worked for me, although I'm not a professional :p

I've done the same thing. I thought I'd go "a little" darker blonde...Dark brown was my results ..with red hughes in it. If you did'nt know me ..no big deal. I've been highlighted blonde forever. It takes a bit to get used to. It has lightened up a bit,from washing. If I can give anyone hair coloring advice...leave it to the professionals!!!! It's truly a science...or in my case a science experiment LOL:eek:

I'm not a professional, but I know that even tough dawn may work, t will be to harsh on your hair. When I had my hair red, I did a regular at home oil treatment and it striped my hair color a lot.This may work for you without damaging your hair.Good luck and let us know.

Oh trust me- I do leave it to the professionals. I NEVER touch my own hair with chemicals. My hairstylist did it using a photo I brought in. I don't know if it's much darker than the photo but it's just really a shock. I think I'll wash it using my daughter's shampoo since I use a color protecting shampoo and give it a week. If it still seems too dark I can get him to add some more highlights. I am just in shock right now.

No my hairdresser did it. I guess he did what I asked him to do but I'm really not pulling it off. I know he could add more highlights but it's going to lighten a lot from all of the blond under this dye anyway. I hate to add highlights I don't need. I try to be pretty careful with my hair and it would take some strong solution to lighten this dark brown.

I don't think something bad happens if you wash it today. Have you call your hairdresser yet?
I have an appointment tomorrow to get my hair done. I'm going to go darker, right now I have highlights and light brown background. I'm going all dark brown. My hair needs a break from coloring.:D

No I'm such a dork- he's so sweet and I don't want to hurt his feelings if at all possible. I told him I liked it.

It should be fine, a few years back I decided I was going to go back to my natural color strawberry blond, cause I got it too blond with all the highlights, I went from brown, black, red to orange in 2 days before she got it right, I washed my hair so much in those 2 days, but it didn't hurt or help it, you might want to try dawn to strip some of the color. Call Lori, she would know( daisymae )she is a professional hair person.

Well... I recently (about a month or a little less ago) went and had my hair colored dark brown. They used fillers and everything to keep it from fading but GUESS! It still faded! Within 3 - 5 washes with even color protectant shampoo my hair faded. I don't think any of it really protects your color and keeps it from fading unless you buy Pureology for like $30 a bottle. What type of shampoo do you use? It should fade within a few days, just deal with it until then instead of spending more money on stuff when it'll fade on it's own. :p

Oh and I don't like color strippers either... like using Dawn or anything that's supposed to strip color. Anyone I've ever seen that used that in beauty school always ended up with a head full of rust colored hair - EW!

Yeah I'm pretty scared to try the Dawn because my hair is really fine anyway and I have this almost pathological NEED for it to feel soft. I use Redkin Color Extend BTW. I like it and I think it really does help (won't be using it for a while though:rolleyes:).

You've made me feel soooo much better. You're right- it will fade. I'm just going to be a hair washing maniac for a while.:p You were rocking that brown! It looked awesome on you!

I wanna see a picture. I bet it looks good your just not used to it. When ever I have darkened my hair it was a shock at first. I have a hair emergency today also. I dyed my hair and it has dried it out. Its usually curly and its barely curling. Im thinking about going and getting it all cut off. I am going to try a hot oil treatment or deep conditioning treatment first

You don't have to hurt his feelings just tell him something like... you know, I liked what you did to my hair, but is there any way you can make it lighter since you just did it today?

OMG I'm the same exact way. I highlighted my hair on my own after I quit beauty school and it damaged the front area of my hair so bad I could have cried. You couldn't tell it by just looking but when you felt my hair it was no longer soft, I was almost devastated HAHA. I usually just wash my hair everyday but I wanted my color to last so I was washing it every other day which is better for your hair anyway and it still faded so I'm sure if you wash it every day it will fade in no time. ;)

Awww, that stinks. I bet there is a protein treatment or something that your hairdresser can do to help.

Okay, I took some pictures- prepare yourselves. Keep in mind that my hair started this day much lighter than my avatar pic.
My mother made me promise to email her a picture to which I can guarantee her reaction will be loud and enthusiastic about how awful it looks. She just went darker last week and it turned out great. I was telling her how awful mine id and she said- I love mine! Gee thanks for rubbing it in. Gotta love moms:D

Excuse my stunned expression. It's partly because I am and partly because I hate taking my own picture.

You look so different! I don't know.. I don't hate it but it's definitely not you. Maybe you could try it out for a few days and if you're still not liking it, call him and tell him??

I like the color its pretty. It may be a little too dark for your complexion. I would just ask your hairdresser to lighten it a little. I give you alot of credit though it takes alot of nerve to go darker. Lighter is always easier

The more you shampoo it the lighter it will get but not with a color protecting shampoo. Use any good shampoo with conditioner. When mine goes to dark, I shampoo every 3 days or so. Good luck.

No trust me- I realize it's really bad. I just got off the phone with my mom and blunt is a very mild way to describe her. I'm just afraid that he would have to use a high percentage of peroxide and I don't want to dry out my hair.

I'm off to go wash it a few times. He had styled it kind of cute but it's so freaking hot it has fallen completely flat. Maybe I'll feel better once I style it myself.

Hehehe you're just like me, but I would still call him and just ask for advice. Tell him you still love what he did but you want it lighter if at all possible. If he's as sweet as my hairdresser he will come to your resque straight away!!! Good luck. With your face tho' I am sure everything looks good!!! Good luck
