Another email from Ruth....


Duke is the same. I have been trying to get .3cc
in him every hour because his weight dropped a tad.
I am giving an antibiotic twice a day for his lungs.
He is pooping and peeing well. I will have to take him
to work with me tonight. I am a private duty RN and
the clients do not mind at all. Peanut always went to
work with me.

Sounds like she's trying to help him. Thank goodness she can take him to work with her.

How long of a flight would it be?? If he is that small couldn't you just sneak him on?? Just a thought. I'm in Texas so I would help if you was coming through here.

I'm not sure about the length of the flight.... or about whether spending the money (which no one has, to begin with) to try and sneak him - would be worth the risk of "getting caught" and "tossed off the plane", haha....

Thanks for your offer to help.... that's very sweet.... but we'd be going from Maine to Oklahoma.... so no Texas.... :(

Just received from Ruth....

Dena, I am sorry, but he is dying in front of my eyes.
Weight is now 1.7. Hardly any respiratory efforts.
Color is bad. Loosing body heat even on the pad
with blankets

Really, what would be the difference in that and what you are doing now? :confused: It wouldn't have to be on a large scale and seems like it would solve alot of your problems. The "need" seems to arise quite often...

right now, I really don't have the energy to debate your opinions.....

This thread wasn't about me... it was about this precious little baby... who evidently, is losing his brief fight..... and frankly... I'm just not in good spirits.

Again from Ruth....

I sure gave it my all my friend.
He is respiratory distress now.
Down to 1.7 even with all I fed him.
Unable to pass the tube now.
He's on a heating pad and in
soft warm blankets.

Just had a cry over this little pup I've never met. I think you are wonderful for what you've done with Emma, and what you were trying to get arranged with Duke. Keep up your mission Dena, I think you've found your calling.

Oh no.... there's only so much heartache this ol' lady can take.....

Wish something could have been done for the little guy..... Ruth is an RN and a respected Chi breeder of many years..... if she is unable to pull him through this - - then baby Duke was meant to be with God.... at least his troubles here have been brief.... :(

It wasn't meant for a debate. It was an honest suggestion that I thought would HELP you in the long run. Of course it isn't about you, it's about the dog(s). It's always about the dogs first, right?
My thinking was, that if you are going to continue to take in dogs like this and you can't afford the costly care that they need, you may get more support if you are part of a recognized, legitimate organization rather than as an individual. (In particular when the requests for support extend on such a broad level.) I mean, if you are going to be doing it anyway, right? Vet's would be more likely to offer help as they could provide care as a 'donation' and use it as a business right off. Individuals may feel the same way.
That was all I meant--I really don't see what the downside would be. Trust me, it was the DOGS and what is best for THEM that I had in mind when I made the suggestion.

I just saw this and my heart broke when I saw the pictures of Duke, he just seemed so fragile....I hope he pulls through, but as always it's up to God to decide. Sending prayers for Duke, Ruth and you Dena from the westcoast!!

Dena I am very happy to hear of your trying to help this baby as are most of the posts.. there really are some great people..Dena your compassion is great...

This is not meant for anyone just some encouragement...I want you Dena to read this and just keep on doing what it is that you do best..I have carried my little card for years.. I worked for a teen town on a military base and this was on the door at the teen town, to teach teenagers how to treat others... I am glad you are a person that has it in her to post a thread like this and tries to help..Keep this on your fridge...anne

Anne I know how this touches home for you, being gracie was tube feed and given subq liquids and now she is beautiful and 2 yrs old :) If little duke has a chance any little chance , he is worth it, HUGS ANNE , kisses to gracie:) she is so sweet and loving, she knows you were there for her and always will be :)

Like you, all I can do is prayyyyyyy and sit tight for updates.... I know Ruth is at work right now, with little Duke in tow..... hopefully I'll get updates throughout the night -and I'll post as I hear..... otherwise, Ruth will let us all know something in the morning....
