OK seriously, what are these and how do I get rid of them!?

The title pretty much says it all. They LIVE in my HOME! Before we moved into this house I had never seen one or even known they existed. They scare me more than anything in the world haha and I have no clue what they are...which makes it hard to find a way to get rid of them. Can anyone help me out with that?

I've heard that they're centipedes (which...holy cow. I've seen a lot of centipedes in my life...but don't they have small legs?), my friend thinks they're silverfish (but they have more legs than the silverfish I found on google), and last night someone referred to them as a "Devil's bug" or something.

I don't care what they're called haha...but I want them out. Even the picture scares me.They're always in the bathtub or on the floor in the bathroom or outside on the porch. and they scare the CRAP out of me! haha. Can anyone help!?

Yup I have them too. I call them centipedes. spray them or smack them with a shoe. Of show them a picture of yoru avatar. that's pretty frightening it might scare them away.. LOL

Megan.... pack your bags -ya can move in with me! We hate those too! Not that I know what they are nor I have seen them but I dont like'em!!!

I can't! haha. They are SO creepy I can't even kill them. I had a dream about one...not like a nightmare, just a dream where one was in it...and when I woke up I litterally sat there shaking for like 10 minutes lol. I tried spraying one with hairspray and it turned and ran after me.

A couple days ago I was in the bathroom and there was a baby one running across the floor, so I put a cup on top of it and it sat there under the cup for a few days until it was dead and I got my dad to throw it away haha.

Eek those are pretty creepy! They do look like a centipede and silverfish mated.:eek: No idea what they are or what to do to get rid of them- aren't I an amazing help?:p Oh well, I'm sending sympathy anyway.:D

Megan, it is a centipede, a house centipede called Scutigera Coleoptrata. Do you like spiders? Cuz these eat spiders and a few other nasty bugs that live in your house.

I am going to sound like a 5 year old little girl but THATS GROSS! I absolutly hate bugs, good luck getting rid of them.

Well they're not doing a very good job cause there's quite a few spiders around here too haha. :p

I HATE spiders, but I think I'd actually prefer spiders over these things. It must be because we live by the woods...gosh I can't wait to move lol.

I hate to break it to you, but they are in the city too! :p We occasionally get them here.

LOL, I'd take the centipedes over spiders any day. We have HUGE house spiders... infact, in my life I've never lived anyway where there are so many spiders till the appartment I was in last and now this house! I just don't get in. I'm in the same village I grew up and like 3minutes walk away and I don't remember there being THIS many spiders there or any that are as big as the ones I see carry hiking equipment across the room. :rolleyes: We have a ton of silverfish too... there are by far the most pointless insect ever.

Hopefully you can get rid of them... I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. :D

Get tub & bathroom sealer It mean's you have a hole somewhere Caulk EVERYTHING lol that's what we did

ugh! I HATE those things!!!! They're in my mom house in NJ, too!! They freak me out! I grab the nearest shoe and throw it at them from a few feet away, I'm a baby I know:rolleyes: They're always in my garage!!! I don't go in there without a show in hand. Our garage is lower than the rest of the house and we don't see them as much in the house. Good luck getting rid of them! That's one thing I don't miss about NJ. It's weird though, my Grandma lives rite next door and I never see them in her house.:confused:

Those huge spiders that carry hiking equipment are in my house too! I've killed 3 in the past month and killed the BIGGEST one last night and it was like WW3 trying to kill it. I now check under the covers every night before I go to bed and often have nightmares of huge spiders. Rather lovely.

Yep, that's a centipede. Fast little critters, aren't they? Actually, if you can stand them, they are the good guys - they live on spiders, silverfish, ants, bedbugs, termites and cockroaches. The bad news - they can live from 3 to 7 years!

They must be the American ancesters of mine then. :p These put up a good fight too if you try to kill them, they have no fear and are as bold as brass. I'm sure when you approach them they take on a fighting stance. :(

LOL Megan - I'm not scared of bugs (I collected them when I was a kid) but that really is a creepy looking one - fascinating but creepy and I don't think I'd want them in my house either.....that Flickr page was pretty funny - loved the comments !!

I don't think they're silverfish - they look more like centipedes. Way cool to watch with those zillion legs - good thing they don't need shoes - can you imagine shopping for that many feet ???

Oh, the one the other night was rather pathetic. I always like shove Lilly in the bedroom and shut the door and she hears me beating and banging and starts barking :eek:. The darn spider was running from me, I'd hit it and smoosh it around to kill it (in fear that it would jump or something and attack me) and it was trying to hide behind her toy baskets and I was afraid it'd get her toys :confused: LOL. My mom laughs at me and says she'd love to have a hidden camera in my house watching me. They're grosssss though :(

They are house centipedes. They are not posinous though and cant harm dogs, thats what i read but am not sure. i think one bit me a while ago, i woke up with a big red thing on my waist. they are so fast, i think i read they like to live near wood or water.

that is one creepy looking bug :eek: i was going to suggest you call some exterminating companys tell them that you have a bug but your not sure what kind it is. See if you can fax them them the picture and can tell you more or less what it is.

Good luck and hope you get rid of them! :eek:

HELPMEHELPMEHELPMEHELPME!!!!!

This was all in the last 2 minutes.

I was just in my bathroom and I looked up and there was a FULLY GROWN one sitting in the corner of the cieling. Holy crap, right!? So I RUN the heck outta there, I turn around to turn off the light, there's ANOTHER one sitting on the lamp above the sink where I was just brushing my teeth!!!

So I SPAZZED and got my mom and when we went back in there...the one in the corner is gone. He went BYEBYE in .2 seconds. WHERE IS HE!?

Holy crap. I'm going to die. I'm sitting here with ALL of the lights on with my feet up and a baseball hat on my head. I need to go change out of my work uniform...but I'm NOT getting up!

I'm moving in with one of you haha.

Last time I tried to spray one with bug spray it ran after me. Not doing that again. :p

I don't blame you for being scared. Those things would freak me right out. Can you have the house sprayed or something? I'd sure look into that, as long as it didn't hurt the dogs.
One thing I know for certain, they are not silver fish.
