| Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Glad to hear that your are safe V. I can't imagine what it was like to be in the thick of it. My son and DIL are just south of you. They are firefighter and cop so they couldn't leave. Haven't heard from them today but they both told us not to worry. Getting a little anxious though.

it was HORRIBLE. Just horrible - ripping winds - HUGE gusts... then big crashes. The whistling and the moaning of the wind was something fierce - I had no idea what was going on around me because our power was out ....but we didn't sleep a wink all night... This was my first time alone during a bad storm and never again..... The places I was susposed to go to still have no power ....I don't know how I got lucky and had it back this morning. I tried to make it a game for my girls but they were so so scared.....We stayed in my hallway and I had a Yorkie HAT most of the night - one on each side of my head ...they couldn't get any closer..... I did a 'walk around' outside about noon today - and OMG - TREES ARE UPROOTED INTO peoples Townhomes - there's a 30 foot branch blocking my front door and in general.... a huge huge mess. on the upside - My new Carpenter skills really paid off I guess. The girls have their patio and right now are out there 'spying' on all the mess. LOL thank God no one was killed around me (that I know of) ...I heard so far 4 people lost their lives. I'm praying all those who evacuated come home to their homes. This was one really bad bad hurricane - Houston was hit far harder than when Rita hit.

| What really upset me was to see the woman they interviewed that was in Galvaston, right at the water's edge when it had began to get worse and she said they were no about to leave. She said I have a home, kids, animals. ????? I thought well, duh, pack'em up and get out. I can't believe if people want to stay in something like that after they were telling them and warning after warning to leave they would not even think enough about their children's safety to leave. What is wrong with people? My children and animals would be more to me than a house. That can always be rebuilt. They even went so far as to tell them to write the S.S. # on their arms with black markers so they could be identified. Personally, I would have been gone the first mentioned of Ike. |
