| Going "Green" at the Student Leadership Conference I wanted to share this with everyone because I'm so excited about it! I coordinate the annual student leadership conference at work every year and this year I decided to go "green"! Here are some things I have done: No Handouts--all students will receive a flash drive with all the handouts, articles, etc. for each session. I am binding the student notebooks out of recycled paper from dept. offices using old cardboard boxes as covers! No bottled beverages at lunch (pitchers on the tables) and all of the plates and utensils are 100% recyclable. All leftover food will be composted! I am amazed at how much money I have actually saved by following these few ideas Ok I'm super excited and wanted to share!!!! |

| That is awesome. It's one thing to talk about it, another thing to do it...you go girl!! I love the idea with the flash drive. My son just started his first semester at college and is really using his flash drive alot. Most of his assignments are on his class websites and he downloads them. We have this technology...we just need to use it!

| If there's one thing I know about my friend Kim, it's that she's very passionate about the environment and animals. She's an inspiration to me and has taught me so much about going green. Since I've known her I've changed to paper trash bags and I now use the cloth grocery bags. Keep it up Kim!! I'm trying to influence others like you've influenced me!

| What great idea! It's amazing how quickly "green" products are becoming available. Have you seen the compostable utensils? They break down in a few months. Very cool! I bet they are much more expensive than recyclable utensils though.

| Kimberly you are a rock star! Okay, now I need info on the paper trash bags- I'm still using plastic although we do compost and recycle so our trash stays to a minimum. Paper bags from the grocery?

I use re-useable bags that I picked up at Kroger. Walmart has them 2 but Kroger's are better! I take those to Walmart

| I second that! Teach us oh wise one! Any tips for shaking my terrible paper towel habit (I can't even bring my self to like the recycled ones, how sad is that?).

| Awesome! Can you say how much you saved? I've been thinking of starting a green thread. I have changed so much about what we do in the past two years and we are starting our "green" build in the next few weeks. I'm going to start a blog to document it all. I spent hours at the bank ( seriously, I asked for an office, lol)before our construction loan approval, educating them on green building as our project is so unique. They even had me on a conference call with a customer discussing LEED certifications as I had been introducing it to them. The lenders have not caught up with the technologies yet and have to be educated along the way. The bank I worked with is now in process of getting a LEED certified person in house. |

I keep a bio friendly spray handy (make my own--so much cheaper) and use those for clean ups. Toss them in with the reg wash. I only use p-towels for doggy accidents. I buy cheap cotton prints when JoAnnes has a sale and run off cloth napkins. I have a huge stash. Can't tell you when we last bought paper napkins. | |
