What Have I Done?! So Much Pain! I have NEVER been in so much pain in my life. I went to hook my dishwasher up (it's portable or whatever they're called) and it's soo hard to get the hose for the water to full go on the faucet, you have to push really hard. I must have strained a little too hard because I heard something either pop in my neck. You know how if you turn your head real fast you'll hear a weird noise? That's the noise I heard. It was immediate EXCRUCIATING pain, I couldn't and didn't want to move. Does anyone know what this could be and how serious it is? I don't have insurance so I'd rather not go to the doctor for a few days to see if it gets better. I can't do anything though, if I even BARELY turn it feels like someone's stabbing me with a sharp object in the neck. I took 3 Ibuprofen and have ice on it right now. Should I go out and get some stronger medication and a heat pad? I'll have to have someone take me, I don't think I can drive. Thanks guys, this sucks :( |
Sorry, I have no advice, but Man that sounds so painful. I hope you feel better soon! |
Oh boy that's not good. I am sorry you haven't insurance but you should really see a doctor. If Advil dosen't help in a day or so please get to a doctor. Heat always helps me. Muscle relaxer's also incase you pulled a muscle. The disc's in the back of the neck are nothing to play around with. If your pain does not subside please see a doctor. It is cheaper than going to the ER. You may need an xray. I do hope you feel better soon. |

I just went thoguh something similar. sounds like a neck strain or tortaculis. heat will help better than ice . also take the advil if it is not feeling any better in a day I would go in. You may be making it worse by not going in. |
You should only put ice on for 20 min. then heat for 20 min. If it is not better in 2 days, go to the emergency room. They will work out a pay plan. Good luck to you, I have a lot of neck problems, it is painful. |
NO HEAT...not for the first 3 days I think. Heat makes the muscle expand (or something like that) all I know is that I learned from experience not to put heat on a new injury. ICE is good. Ice and ibuprofen. |

I agree NO HEAT, Advil and ice and maybe a nice easy neck rub. |
hope you feel better soon :) |
Find a Chiropractor. I couldn't live without mine. And use ICE. It is uncomfortable but it does help the pain and reduces swelling. The more it swells the more it is going to hurt. Quote:

I have off brand Ibuprofen, it's like from the dollar store or somewhere cheap. Should I get the name brand or should it be the same? Thanks ladies! |
I use an off brand all the time and it works as well as the brand name. I hope your neck starts feeling better soon |
Please Get Medical Attention If it was me, my opinion is this, I would go to the emergency room. Here in Calif. I have been told that they can not turn you away from ER if you have no insurance. Have you called the emergency room and talked to someone? I would do that and explain you have no insurance and see what you are told. Prayers it isn't any thing serious. If you go to the er please be sure to tell them what you have taken for pain. |

First of all, Can you move your arms? Can you lift your arms? My husband suffers from 2 herniated discs, no heat, ONLY if it is moist heat, you can get a shower and let the warm water hit the affected area, otherwise ice pack and motrin or advil, unless you are allergic to ibuprofen, then you should NOT take any of those. If they are 200mg you can take up to 4 at one time (800mg) with some food, crackers, gelatin, a little something, just to avoid upset your stomach. Do not over do it, you should avoid using your cell,we tend to hold the phone with our ear and shoulder:eek:.Try to sleep without a pillow and avoid heavy lifting. If there is not improvement in 24 hrs. you should seek med. attention Good luck |

Finally something i can help with. Im a paramedic and it sounds to meet like you either strained or even sprained a ligament. You need to take 4 Ibuprofen and the adult strength tylenol. Dont worry you cant overdose on them together. Alternate between Tylenol every 4 to six hours and the same with the tylenol every eight hours. You also need to rest it and do 20 min of ice and 20 min of heat. it will ease up and should go away within a couple days. |

I'm not sure if I can shower today, if I move my head at all to the right (if I don't go extremely slow) it hurts. I'm afraid I'll not be thinking and turn fast or something plus my shower is slick - it's made of glass or something and I don't want to risk falling. Will sleeping without a pillow not hurt it even more? I know when I've fallen asleep on the couch before or something without a pillow I woke up and had mild neck pain. I'll def. seek medical attention if it isn't better when I get up tomorrow. Thanks!! |

Thanks, I sure hope it eases up by tomorrow or something. It hurts but I don't really think it's serious enough to go to the doctors office, I feel as if they'll just tell me to do what I'm doing already because I've been before for leg sprains and stuff. Thanks again! |
What have I done? Quote:
So many people offer their solutions but they are not always the right ones. Get better soon.:) |

Feel better soon!!! |
A lot of hospitals have financial assistance programs. They pay part of your bill. The amount goes along with your income. Call the billing dept and find out if they do and how to apply. |

Oh goodness  I hope you are feeling better now!! and get the proper help you need |
I went and got a heat pad and some Extra Strength Tylenol. I'm currently sitting here with the heating pad on, I just finished with the ice a few minutes ago. The pain has eased up some but I don't know if it's just where I took the Tylenol. Hopefully things will be better tomorrow! Thanks everyone for the kind get well wishes! |
I was away on vacation when you started this thread, are you feeling better? hope so :) |
The exact same thing happened to a friend of mine in a yoga class - she called me hysterical and in agony and we went to the emergency room. We were living in Spain at the time, and the ER doc didn't seem to be overly concerned. (They tend to be pretty blasé there.) His advice was ice, ibuprofen and rest and he put her in a neck brace. They didn't run any ex-rays or other tests but told her to come back if the symptoms didn't subside in a couple days. He believed it was some kind of strain/sprain. She was really uncomfortable for about a week, but the pain eventually went away and she hasn't had any symptoms since. Because of your insurance situation, I agree to ice and take pain meds now and wait it out for a day or two - ER bills can be astronomical even for seemingly simple procedures. But if it gets worse or doesn't improve, definitely see the doctor! I hope you feel better soon! |
