Computer help??

Thanks so much everyone for all of the help!! I've always emptied the temp files, defragged and so on but nothing was working. I checked my memory and I have tons. Finally, after I loaded the free AVG download it was like magic. WOWOWOW, I certainly had all kinds of things going on. I had a few viruses and tons of spyware and a few other things. This program fixed it all. I was truly amazed and so darn happy!! I didn't expect much from a free program but this one is simply wonderful.

Just a few minutes ago it sent me a message about a trojan warefare trying to attack and fixed it. MY computer is running pretty darn good now. I am soooooooo happy!! Thanks again everyone.

If you load all your pictures to a disc and upload from there it will free up alot of space on your puter and help it run faster. Pictures take up alot of space and memory. Also clean your disc and cleaning out your cookies will help. AsO run a virus check then reboot and run it again.

I was doing discs at first and then I bought one of those removable hard drives. I'm not sure what you call them but it just plugs in and I can do my backup and save whatever. It currently has over seven thousand pictures on it, lol!! Thanks for helping.

I am so glad you got your system up and running! Yeah spyware can slow your system down dramatically. It happened to be before until I installed a couple of free programs that take care of that. Now I am a happy camper like you are

You can try AVG (anti-virus) for free: AVG Free - Download antivirus and antispyware software for Windows XP and Vista
And Spybot for ad-ware and spy-ware: The home of Spybot-S&D!

My husband the computer geek just walked in the room said upgrading to Vista is like "pouring gasoline on your house when it's on fire." HA. No Vista won't help you because unless you buy a brand new top of the line computer Vista will run slow. We have Macs, but your WinXP should work better if you run those programs and uninstall Norton.

You can also do a speed test at Speakeasy - Speakeasy, Inc. - Broadband, Voice and Data Services to make sure your connection is consistent.

I am a computer geek ha ha and agree 100% with the above. DO NOT go the VIsta way... it IS NOT an upgrade and there are WAY too many issues with it.

Norton and Mcafee are great virus programs but do bog down your computer.
