For anyone who might be considering this! I posted back in March that I was considering having Lasik done. Well Yesterday was my big day! I was scared to death, almost fainted and vomited. I was sweating and the most nervous I have ever been. They gave me two sedatives because I ended up needing AK in my right eye. That was because my astigmatism was so high in that eye (20/2400) they had to cut my eye w/a scalpel from 10-2 o'clock and then again from 4-7 o'clock. I got up this morning and for the first time in over 30 years was able to read the clock w/out my glasses. I started screaming "Holy Crap"................my poor hubby thought something terrible was wrong. Im sorry for babbling but I just want to tell anyone who is considering it - GO FOR IT!!!!! It is amazing, and the pleasure I got from going today and purchasing myself a pair of fashionable sunglasses was amazing! Thanks to everyone back in march who were so supportive and informative (especially Marci!:)) Just had to share my happy news!!!!:thumbup: |

Congratulations!!! I remember my amazement at being able to see after I had it done also, it's one of the best decisions I ever made. |

LOL...I would "babble" too - you've every right to! That must be one of the most wonderful feelings to be able to see so many things in a new way. Congratulations!! :) Your experience will give me courage when the time comes for me. |

congrats!! I totally know how you feel. i had it done about 2/3 years ago and it was the greatest thing in the world. I had had glasses and then contacts for 18 years of my life and i'm only 25 now. I did mine mid afternoon and after 6 hours of valium helped sleep (hehe) when i got home i could see perfectly. My eyesight is still great. you are going to have the time of your life for the next couple weeks enjoying all the sights and things you couldn't do before hand. its great going on vacation or just sleeping somewhere else and not having to bring your glasses, contact case and saline. |
glad it went so well! that's great!! :) my brother had it done last year.. BEST thing he has done, he said! he was legally blind.. his eyes were horrible-now he is better than 20/20. ;) GOOD FOR YOU! YAY!! :):) |
I just came from a laser procedure myself. The wosrt part is the waiting. You will think a lot of things like, what will you be if the operation failed and you lost an eye, etc. But yes, the procedure was succesful and my headaches are gone. |
Just out of curiosity.... how old are some of you that have had this done? The reason I ask is that my best friend had her's done about 6 years ago and the other week found out that she needs glasses again. For now, it's just for reading and sometimes driving but I thought that kinda stinks for it to not last that long.... and believe me, she spared no expense for the very best procedure/dr. possible. She told me that it's typical for people as they near 40 years old to need reading glasses even after having the lasix. Is that true for some of you also? My husband has wanted this done for so long but financially it just hasn't been in the cards for us. Now that he's turning 40 this year, I just wonder if it's still worth it. |

I had mine about 5 years ago when I was 50. It corrected to 20/20 but after a year my left eye changed to 20/40. It is still 20/40. Considering that I had to make sure my shampoo and conditioner bottles were different colors so I could tell them apart in the shower I am pleased as I can be and would do it again in a New York minute. I need reading glasses for very small print like the newspaper but I can read books with no problem. What a pleasure it is after so many years of having to depend on glasses to live my life! Funny story I want to share - I have to wear these plastic things over my eyes at night for bed just for a few more days but I have to use adhesive tape to hold them on and I am allergic to adhesive so it was eating my skin. My daughter gave me one of those night mask that you wear so I decided to try that lastnight. Well I woke up to go to the bathroom and started to freak out because I thought I had gone blind. I could see nothing but black - it took my several seconds before I remembered that I had been wearing the mask! Duh, I thought to myself. After feeling complete panic I did get a good laugh at myself for being so silly! Just thought I would share!!! |
Wow, that's awesome. I've heard from so many people how this procedure changed their lives. Just one question - were you actually awake and did you SEE that scalpel coming towards your eye?!? OMG I would SOOOOO freak out at that! :eek: |

You are so lucky! I would give anything to have lasik but my doctor said I'm not a good candidate because of my dry eye. I had one episode with dry eye about 5 years ago and everything has been perfect before and since - I don't know why he continues to dwell on it. Congrats on being able to see again! :) |
