Will there be a 2009 International Meetup?? Just wondering with the way everything is going if there will be a meetup now...i sure hope so...i still think this could be a great time for all that choose to come....what do you all think????? |
Perhaps if the committee knows that we support their efforts... Just a thought, in case they are reading this. Why not rescind the second vote, refund any money that you've already recieved (unless the individual tells you to hold it towards registration) and just go with the city that won the poll? Some will complain, but that will happen no matter what you do. I hestitated to write this, since the location I voted for came in on top. Please know, I'd be saying this regardless of the outcome. While you have the greatest of intentions, the can of worms that was opened with the "pay to vote" may bring about the demise of a good thing. I just want to see this part pass so that the committee can start planning the event and stop haggling over where it will be! |

I agree....the point of the Poll in the first place was to pick a City....and the poll did that....so in MHO....just go with Alexandria, VA...it did will after all |
I agree with you two. I REALLY hope that we have a meetup, because I would LOVE to go. |
Sounded like it was going to be more trouble then it's worth. I know the KC one sounded like a huge success though. Maybe the poll was a bad thing. Obviously everyone isn't going to be happy because as we know you can never please everyone, especially when there are so many of us from one end of the country to the other. It's a no win situation. The committee needs to do what they do and just pick a place. Post a thread that says 2009 meet up will be in ________ and go from there and again, do what they do to plan. ????? I don't know the solution but I sure know that I don't envy them in the least. Best wishes and good luck to the planning committee. Can't wait to see the pics and hear all the stories. |
Tiggerwit, Great post!!! Alexandria is a great place! We were just there a couple of weeks ago and the place is crawling with pet friendly things to do. There are lots of restaurants with outdoor dining that allow dogs, tons of stores that allow dogs, many even set drinking water out. The is a walking/riding/biking path that runs the whole way to Mt. Vernon. Even Mt. Vernon is pet friendly. (You just can't take them in the mansion. However, I'm sure if the committee arranged a visit to Mt. Vernon we could work out a system to let small groups do the mansion while others watched their furkids) It's a huge place. DH and I have easily spent the day there, both with and without dogs. There is a pet friendly cruise of the Potomac and you can visit many of the outdoor attractions in Washington (the monuments, memorials, etc.) with furbutts in tow. Usually, in late June the high humidity of July and August hasn't settled in yet (although every summer differs a bit) Fenced dog parks abound and if we all brought ex-pens like at this years meetup I'm sure we'd be able to find places to set up. I had decided to go this year if it ended up in Alexandria, Savannah or San Diego (SD would have to have been our annual vacation, but we've been wanting to go there anyway). But, I honestly, don't think we can go wrong with Alexandria. |
Alexandria sounds like the perfect place for a Yorkie( and Yorkie lover) to have a great time |
I hope theres a meet up because We really wanted to go and when it looked like it was San Diego I even looked into how much airfare was and particulars about flying wth dogs. It would be even better for me if it were in Alexandria. Did I miss the thread where you pay to vote. I havent seen it. I dont know if I will or not a $20 seems like to much to ask to lose if for some reason I cant go if its in San Diego |
pay vote got shut down by admin. |

Alexandria would be great. I'm hoping we hear something from the committee soon. I'm sure they are regrouping and trying to decide what to do. Perhaps when all this initial fuss is over, we'lll end up with a really good turnout. Seems to be a lot of interest. Until then, I'll keep checking for news. |

I guess I missed it all.... I do hope that the committee can regroup and plan again :( I think what they are doing is awsome and right on track  Looking forward to being able to attend whether it be 2009 or 2010 - Whoo Whoo :p |

That's where the pay to vote info was posted. There wasn't a seperate poll on YT...the new poll was to be kept by one of the committee people. |

I hope we can still all get together no matter where I will try to be there. I really did not see the point in the second poll but that's just me. I know that I got a PM from Admin after the last meet up . Asking ???'S and to me it seemed they were upset they were left out. :confused:but that confused me because didn't they want just that??? I will do my Darnedest to be at the meet up no matter where it is :) |
ok....a question...why were they left out if they wanted to be involved...it is after all called the YT International Meet Up....right?.....so in my opinion it just seems right that they would be involved...looks like somethings need to be checked into before all is said and done to plan the next one.....how many of you live within 30 miles of Alexandria that could help with the meet up if it is still held there....to me it sounds as if it would be easier on everyone if people were close enough to help with the planning that could actually go in person to check some of the stuff out....that way make sure that it is very accommodating to us and our furbabies.....again in my opinion admin should be as much involved in this as they want to be |

They were not part of the meet up Per there request. When the planers made the stuff they left YT off the shirts for copy right reasons. ( they did not want YT admin to get upset. So when admin saw that they sent at least me a PM asking about it. I don't know about everyone else but I made sure anyone who asked knew about YT and that was what the meet up was to me. |

OH MY.....Lots of changes since I have checked in. I see that the poll has been closed. I guess it is just sit and wait. My enthusiasm has been dampered...... which is really sad, because I too, was planning on going either place. Hopefully it will still happen. I do question if there really would have been a "vote off" if the results would have been different. I know that at least 4 of the 5 committee members -I don't know who the 5th member is-voted for San Diego by looking at the poll results. (no offense....everyone had their favorite place to go....but it does seem a bit strange). Those that are asking about this DO have a legit reason to question this. San Diego is a beautiful town....I have family very near there.. and I think it would have been fun as well as Alexandria... which would have been close enough to do my "lighthouse tour" (but as everyone knows, I voted for poor little ole' Charleston!!..). I am not going to make any more "votes" until I see where this is going....... but I do hope that it continues. IN THE MEAN TIME, I think that I will try to get something going with a few of the "local Yorkie Dorkies" ..... hopefully this fall. :) |
I sincerely hope that there is a 2009 International YorkieTalk meetup and that the committee honors the vote/poll that has been done. I don't see how the committee could make any other decision and still be credible as a voice of YorkieTalk. Since the other thread was closed I am wondering if Admin will be a more active part of the 2009 MeetUp. I sincerely hope so, I think the involvment of Admin and the moderators in an official capacity would greatly benefit the MeetUp. I am already thinking about the 2010 meetup that will be held on the west coast. I have never been farther west than the rockies so it will be quite an experience for me. Chances are good that if I have to fly I will not bring my furbutts, but at least I will have an opportunity to meet, greet, and hug many of my YT family members. |
