Keeping him in my prayers and thoughts

My heart stopped when I saw this thread.

Nathan to be well again.

Good morning all. Before I went to bed last night I got a call that gave me a smile. They have backed up on the medicine that is keeping Nate asleep and he is waking up for a few minutes off and on and able to say a few raspy words. He is also very calm and his vital are good. So he was able to talk to his parents. A nurse (he has his own at all times) asked him if he knew where he was and he said "the hospital". She asked him if he knew why and he didn't. She told him his heart is sick and they're fixing him up. He was saitsfied with that and went back to sleep. Nate is not able to open his eyes all the way yet, he has been asleep for 5 days...but he is eating ice chips now. Been a long time since he ate anything. He has been put on Lasix because he has fluid on his lungs. Hopefulyl we will get some biopsy results today. I don't understand what is taking so long. The kids nice drs at the Blue Bird Clinic there at the hospital are calling in some meds for Tony...God Bless them. I felt a tear welling up in my eye right there when I heard this. I love my baby but he wearing us out ;) That's all for now. I'll try to post later. Thanks again.:animal-pa

thanks for the update! i am glad to hear that his vitals are better. :thumbup: waiting is so hard and ever worse when its a child. like i said he looks like a strong little trooper. i will keep your family in our prayers:)

I had to log on when I got this email notification and I can't tell you how happy I am that he is awake and eating ice chips. One day at a time but it's sounds so much better. Just be assured prayers are coming for Tony until he back to good health. Hugs, Joan

We got 2 of the 3 biopsies back yesterday and they are saying its genetic instead of viral. Waiting for the last one. An MRI is being done today to help them fninish pinpointing just what our problem is. Nate Mother called me last night just to talk and catch me up. She's going down slowly. Couldn't make a whole lot of sence of it but what I have just said. Hope to learn more today. In the meantime Tony is oblivious to it all and "energetic" as ever. Preliminaries are being done for a transplant just in case. Someone tell me this is a dream. Please keep remembering Nate in your prayers. I know God is holding him in His arms, but a whisper now and then in His ear couldn't hurt. Thanks

I'm so sorry to hear the news might not be good. I'm keeing Nate in my prayers along with your entire family. Remember, faith will see you through.

News flash!! I actually got to talk to Nathan on the phone! We were all so excited we put it on speaker phone and we all got to talk to him for just a minute. I told him I loved him and he said "OK Maw Maw. Can I talk to Tony?" He kept saying hi Tony and the baby actually kissed the phone. It was beautiful.

They took his catheter out and want him up walking now and then. He ate his first meal. My son has been trying to get him to eat but wasn't hungry. I guess after you haven't eaten in a while your just not hungry. Anyway, son gave it the usual try yesterday and mentioned chicken nuggets and nathan bout jumped out of the bed he said. Well, that boy ate a whole kid meal. Dr said he could have anything just to get him to eat. He was up watching tv last night.

The third biopsy came back yesterday and all three have shown not viral but genetic. So now they at least now what direction they need to take. He gets tired easy, still have to sedate now and then to calm him. Hoping if we can keep him eating he will feel much better. That's all I know for now. I have the phone number to call directly to his room now! I can call when I want!

All we can do is wait now to find out what the shape his heart is in and what direction they are gonna take.

Thank God for chicken nuggets!!!!!! Hopefully, Nate's appetite will perk back up and that will help him get stronger. Whatever the tests show, at least you will know what the issue is and have a plan of action for treatment. And never forget that miracles to happen. Keeping those prayers coming!!!!!!!

Good morning all~ Don't have a lot to up date but Nate was able to walk in the hallway yesterday withouth his breathing canula and was able to keep his food down. He has lost almost 20 pounds not eating for a couple of weeks. As I told you he has Asbergers and very intellegent. He started reading at 4.

Anyway I have had the best idea if a couple of you wouldn't mind sending him a card you might have laying around. My kids are over there by themselves and don't know a soul. I just know it would perk Nate up to get some mail just for him. He will be able to read it himself..no kidding, even the big words.

Only asked because I've seen it here before and thought it might brighten his day. It's hard for a child like him to stay couped up like he has for weeks. I'm sure it would brighten his parents too. Just a thought. Thanks. Here is the address where the hopital has the kids staying, they will get it to Nate.

I grocery shop today and will get a card and put it in the mail here and it should go out tomorrow.

Sounds like every day for him is a bit better which is just wonderful.

Denise, what a great idea! I sent an e-mail to my family and friends so they can do it as well. I have my card ready to go today. I put some stickers inside for Nate.:p

Just wanted everyone to know that Nate has started recieving cards today and it has really making him smile:). I just wanted to thank you again. I believe he got one from Ines, Betty and Jodi today, thanks guys. My daughter inlaw said they were just beautiful and prettied up. Ines, he loved the stickers! His Mom explained to him that these cards were from Maw Maw Neese's friends from far away hoping that he feels better soon. I tell you it just made his day. All she has is one of those throwaway cameras up there but is going to take pictures of him with his stash! So don't know when I will be able to post them. Maggie wants to thank you all.

I got this from a bulletin on my son's myspace this morning. It tells the name for what Nate has been diagnosed with along with the congestive heart failure. I never could remember the whole name. That's all I have for now, a few of you had asked. Have a great day, God Bless :).

For those of you who don't know, my 6-year-old son, Nathan, is currently hospitalized on the Cardiatric ICU floor of Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.



He has been diagnosed with Dilated Cardio-Myopathy, which essentially means that his heart doesn't work well. He has been treated around the clock for nearly three weeks, and he has good days and bad days,. He has been put on the transplant list in case his condition begins to worsen or doesn't get better soon.



Most of my Myspace friends are comic artists, either independent or professional. I have a favor to ask anyone of you who have a little bit of free time on your hands.



Nathan has Asperger's Syndrome, a form of high-functioning autism. One of the main traits of Aspies (people with AS) is that they obsess over certain things almsot to the point of ridiculousness. Nathan's obsession is, and has been since before he could speak, Spiderman.



If anyone would like draw a quick Spider-Man sketch and personalize it to Nathan, I can't tell you how excited he would get. Even if it's on notebook paper, he would freak. He's really tired of being in the hospital, and it gets to him sometimes.

We have access to a computer in the hospital, so I can print any attachments up and give them to him directly.

I can see you can't sleep either. I look at this thread so often and pray little Nate gets better. He should get my card today and it's so funny that you should mention draw something, I did not spiderman though. I can't draw a straight line so this should give him a smile.

Nope can't sleep either. You'd think think I'd be taking advantage of Tony's eyes being closed. Hope things are ok with you. I bet your drawing is just beautiful because a lot of love went into it. He will love it.

I leave for work at 7am Central Yorkie Time. It's the weekend now and I vow to myself I will sleep whenever Tony does :p. Have a great day.

I sent a card out the other day But I wanted to stop by and tell you that Nate and you all are still very much in my thoughts and prayers.

My little sister and I just drew some Spiderman pictures for Nathan and will be emailing them over, we hope they brighten up his day!
