| Cute Joan. I am looking @ condos in Chicago & the taxes are around 2600 per year. That is, for those of you who aren't math savvy, $217 per month in taxes alone. And you don't even get any land for that!! It is insane.

| The tax assessor one is so true! I live in a townhouse and for some reason my taxes are higher than people who live in the exact same model and we have less upgrades than them! I called the assessor's office and made them explain it to me and it still makes no sense. Also, apparently although we live in a townhouse and all of our land is "common area" we are taxed on our yard/lot! Yet I am not allowed to plant flowers because of our association.... um... OK whatever!

You should be able to go into the assessor's office and contest the value they set. That’s what we had to do when we first moved into our house. If you have a recent appraisal that will help, but recent home sales should work also. And if it works you can also get abatement for the year before and get some of those taxes back.
