Are you a tanner? Tis the season to tan! I have been sitting outside on sunny days for about 20 minutes and have gotten a pretty good base tan...but now it is getting hot! I have a tanning bed that is much easier in hotter weather. Who tans in tanning beds? What kind/brand of tanning lotion do you use and why do you like it? How many times a week do you tan? Do you use the eye goggle thingies (I am bad and have not been using them but am now!)? I would love to hear your thoughts on this...always looking for the new and improved lotion myself. Right now I am using several; Swedish Beauty Swedish Intensifier, California Tan Climax, California Tan Hempology and Australian Gold Thrust. I moisturize with Olay Quench after my bath at night. This thread is not intended to become a debate about whether or not you should tan or not...not about the risks involved, we all know what they are. I enjoy tanning and getting a little color not to mention the Vitamin D you get from sun or tanning beds. I realize it is not for everybody but for those who enjoy it, let me hear from ya! |
I love to tan outside I tryed the stand up tanning thing & didnt like it I get a better tan outside & the boy's get to run around lol. Personally i don't think there is a better tanner than Hawaiian Tropic I have used the indoor tanning one outside & got double the color than the outside one I don't know why but it worked Really well. Right now i'm using this one. Hawaiian Tropic® The Dark Tanning Oil Not the dry one. |
I tan when I can. Hate the standup beds though..I like to nap while I'm relaxing and that's hard to do standing up! I like the Swedish Beauty line. The Amaretto Tingle and Denim and Diamonds are my favorites....not greasy and they smell good...well, at least they don't stink. I don't use tingle much though because I rarely go strait home and take a shower. I liked the results from Australian Gold, but I think I'm allergic to it....it always makes me itch. |
I always use my tanning bed stuff outside and get a really good tan...just something about the tanning bed products that make my skin feel really moisturized...I hate that dried out skin feeling and at my age sometimes dry skin is the norm...but mine feels soft and moisturized...never dry. I also suffer with Neuro Dermatitis that is seasonal and I swear the tanning bed helps clear it up! |
I've been tanning more and more during the winter and now that i'm working all day everyday I miss the sunshine. I usually tan in the beds (medium pressure with a facial tanner) about 1-3 times a week, depending if I have time. Sometimes I dont' go for weeks and realize it and go back for a couple weeks. I don't hold a tan well. I used Swedish Beauty Hemp.. my sister bought it for me. Now I'm using a different brand with a bronzer and cooler. I think it has a koala on the bottle with a purple top. They usually stay at the tanning salon so I'm not sure. I just buy them at home cause at school it's 2 to 3 times more for them! I always wear my goggles cause i'm scared of hurting my eyes, I'm the only one in my family without glasses or contacts. |

I sing in my tanning bed! :D Turn the radio up and sing away! The acoustics are great! The Amaretto Tingle...is it really tingly...I don't like that stuff that gets really hot! I might have to try that and the Denim and Diamonds...do you buy them local or off of a website? If a site, can you post the link or PM me! Thanks! |
I have become very farsighted in the last few years...don't know if it had anything to do with the tanning or not...probably not...I am just old! :D |
Tanning in the sun or in a tanning bed is one of the worst things you can do for your skin and health. Use sunscreen each day, avoid the sun and be happy with nice skin instead of having blothchy skin, freckles, moles and cancer. |
Normally Jakub and I tan every winter.. this year neither of us had time.. so whenever it is warm here we sit outside creating a base tan for the upcoming summer months.. I keep nagging him to get a tanning bed.. but he says the electricity will be way too much.. so for now we have to hold off:rolleyes: When we do go tanning, though.. We go every other day for the first month.. then we go once or twice a week.. depending on how tan we are (he's normally 5x tanner than I am:rolleyes: Lucky genes:p) But PLEASE PLEASE wear youe goggles.. it's sooo important... If you're worried about the line... then just two minutes into the end of your session.. take them off... no quicker! Here are my top three favorites of all time in order: Australian Gold: Crystal (X Ten) HERE Supre: Smoke (02 tan maximizer) Black Bronzer Here Swedish Beauty: Denim and Diamonds Here |

Thank you! I really don't notice any huge difference in our electric bill and you know who has been in your bed! :D Thanks for the links! I will be checking those out! |
i used to work at a tanning salon, i loooove tanning, no matter how bad it is for your skin....i dont wanna hear it.... anyway i love Fiji brand Nano and i dont remember the brand, but i really like urban princess and hempz black label lotions they all work really well if you like a lotion with lots of bronzer in it that dont streak or stain you....im really fair skinned so i dont usually get up to the whole 20 minutes, but i love to tan it just relaxes you and it is so addicting! Usually i dont wear my goggles i just keep my eyes closed or put a towel over my face, i dont like my face to fry i am soo excited bc my bfs mom is getting a tanning bed this week which means free tanning! haha |
I tan every other day a tanning salon. I had just planned on getting a one month package but it was a much better deal if you did a one year membership so me and my Husband got one. I love the stand up tanners the best. I use Black dark tanning quad bronzer for lotion. I just buy it from the tanning salon but I saw where they sell different lotions over the internet so thats where I might get it next. I use googles every time I tan but I take them off for 1/2 the time I am in there so I dont get white circles. I have priced tanning beds and if we continue doing it after the yr is up I might buy one. I worry a little about having one at home, Maybe it would overheat and catch on fire. I love tanning I just dont have the patience to tan outside |
I am not a tanner but a burner;) I have very fair skin so the sun is not my friend, Also I now take medication the I have to stay out of the sun, so I have to take precaution when it comes to the sun! |
I tan in a bed twice aweek, and I am outside during the weekends (weather permitting). I like have a nice even tan, but I don't want to be orange like some girls that tan every day in a bed. I never use my indoor tanning lotion outside because it does not have sunscreen in it. I use a 30spf screen when I am outside. |

I admire the tanning products you use. (original poster) those are all pretty excellent products, esp cal tan. (they don't test on animals either!) :) I used to be a certified tanning technician... worked in a salon for 8 years! There was a lotion a million years ago I used, I wish I remembered the name of it, it was awesome! I used Cal Tan a lot... but I don't recognize any of the new ones. I love to be tan! I do not go tanning though. But in the summer I lay out all summer long! I love how my face clears up and it makes you feel sexier, skinnier and just plain nicer looking! :) :) |

Love to tan!! Haven't started yet this year though. I have my own bed (sunvision) I got last year for my birthday. So I really have no excuse why I haven't been tanning yet, lol! As far as the electric bill goes not a major diff in it w/ the bed. And thats with both my husband and I tanning usually every other day or at leat once every 3 days in the spring/summer! |
i use to tan all the time in HS. My mom is 1/2 cherokee so she has gorgeous toned skin naturally and in the summer she gets sooo tanned w/o any effort. I took after my french/english side and tend to be on the pale side. If i don't ease into it, I will BURN BURN BURN. luckily if I get a gradual tan, i can get pretty dark. I stopped going b/c i was afraid of skin cancer, but i'm thinking about starting back up this summer. I'll probably end up getting cancer from something else anyway. |
i was a sun worshiper from when i was a little girl. i live a block from the beach so i was out there from 10am to at least 430 every day. im regretting it now at age 45... sun spots come everywhere and i have them taken off.. my hands, my arms, my neck, stomach, al over its just stupidness. and of course wrinkles. it too late now. the sun spots will come every year. |
I love to tan in a tanning bed. Its so relaxing and the perfect way to either start or end my day. I signed a 12 month contract at Planet Beach so I right now I'm going every Monday, Wednesday, Friday. After the first few months, I'll probably drop back to once or twice a week. I prefer the lay down bed but occasionally I'll use a stand up bed to try and even out some lines. Right now, the lotion I'm using is called Supernatural, it's an "SteamXtreme" formula. It doesn't tingle, but it does get pretty hot. |
how about spray tanning? is that good? is it worth it? how long does it last? i would do that.. |

the next time you go, can you ask them for me pleeeese.?im sure the girls there will tell you the truth.. just wondering how much it is also... |
Planet Beach does a spray on tan too. I've heard that it'll last around 7 days, but you need to stay out of water for the first 2 (I think:confused:) I think it's a great idea if you need some color for an event but I think it'd be expensive to use as a way to keep you tan all summer. |

I have always been a sun worshipper. Growing up as a competitive swimmer, we lived at the pool from sunup till sundown during the summers. Used to bake slathered in baby oil laying on one of those silver reflective blankets!!!!! I'm a little smarter now, but still love the sun and being tan. I do use a tanning bed during the winter months (like to relax in the bed). I'll build a base tan with about 8 visits during a month and then maintain with one visit a week. I tan easily and also hold my tan for a long time. I don't go lots because I'll reach a certain color and not get any darker. I like Bananaberry Tini by Fiesta Sun. It smell good and also has a bronzer in it. I do use eye protection, but I'll take them off for the last minute so I don't end up with raccoon eyes. Thankfully, my skin still looks youthful and I don't have many sun spots. Guess I was blessed with good genes!!!! Tanning is my one and only vice and I feel so much better with a tan, plus I really think it helps my mental health. And I really do spend much less time baking on my deck chair by stopping in for an occasional tanning session. |

SAD = seasonal affective disorder. My roots are mostly fair skinned europeans. I have very green eyes and although my hair was literally gold colored when I was a toddler, it has been varying shades of brown since then. I don't know why I rarely burn, cause my sisters fry. I have one brother who has my skin tone and another who gets huge blotches from too much sun exposure - some kind of allergic reaction. I'm 47 this year and just satring to have a few wrinkles, mostly the smiling eye wrinkles. |
I have a tanning bed at home too and have not noticed any difference in my electric bill with both my husband and I using it. I love the swedish bueaty line as well since it doesn't leave you with a greasy feeling, I buy my lotions from Lotioncentral.com I think they are in florida and have better prices than buying them from a salon. I agree with the other, wear the goggles, the line is not that noticeable, and when you get outside in the sun it will tan and you won't be able to tell. I always feel better after tanning |
