I used to love to tan..until I had to have 2 spots of skin cancer removed from my chest last year. I'm 47 and now regret all the hours of laying in the sun, but I still miss the glow and how it makes you feel. It's pretty hard to stay out of the sun in Az. Sucks getting old!:( |
I'm Irish so no tanning for me! I've always been fair skinned and I like it that way. Even without tanning I have had a spot removed off my shoulder. I'm the girl with the big, dark sunglasses and the large brim hat. I am happy with my skin and the fact that I have no wrinkles though I don't judge anyone who chooses to tan. :) |
I tan in the beds too! I'm fair skinned so I tan that way I don't burn in the sun. Starting out I tan 6 days a week. I work myself up to 20 mins. Once I reach 20 mins, I then go to 2 to 3 days a week to maintain it. I use Brown Envy (has a slight bronzer in it). Then move on to Emerald Bay's Mojo with a tingle factor of 7. This year I stopped for a week and lost just about all of my tan so I'm having to restart again. Now I am using Brown Envy Dark (it has more of a bronzer than the original). Tanning is me time and I get to relax! :D I might even get to squeeze in a nap at that time too! ;) |
I definitely have fallen asleep in my tanning bed and then it scares the poo outta me when that thing shuts off...or when hubby comes in there and grabs me when I am about dozed off! Gotta start locking that door! :D Oscar followed me in there the other day and I said "NO...lights will hurt your eyes!" :( I could just feel a cold nose right in the middle of my session! |
im a tanner also! i work a very stressful job (i work on an acute psych ward-its a locked unit) and when i get off work it helps untangle my nerves lol.. i know i shouldnt do it, but i do. im at 30 mins now, so ill be going once a week- or just slightly more.. maybe 5-6 times a month.. i dont like to get really dark (that aged cow hide orange lol). |

Sorry about those spots and having to stay out of the sun...especially in Arizona! I can't imagine...the sun is SO intense out there! I used this stuff on my face you might want to try...I think you can get it in beauty supply stores...I had my beautician get it for me. It is called Fake Bake and is a stain that is streak free and leaves a really pretty color! Not hard to apply either! If you like the color of a tan it might be just the ticket! Can't help you on the feel tho...sun has its own special feel for sure...warms you all the way thru! |
I love tanning!! for outdoors, i use mauibabe (mauibabe.com) which is AMAZING! for indoors I rotate, but my fave right now is Lime N' Da Coconut, when you use it you dont stink after! lol, but for color I would say Perfectly Dark gives me the best color. Crystal Faces is my fave for face lotion. |

Does anyone use a lotion for their face? The one that I'm using now says it's not recommended for the facial area. My face is fairly sensitive but I feel like I need to be putting something on it. Any suggestions? |

I tan, i do it almost every summer, i tan in a stand up for about 7-9 minutes since it's stronger. I get a base tan and then tan with the real sun and just get darker and darker. I use the lotion they give me, it comes with the deal and it smells sooo good! i love it and i also bought a lotion to put on after that has hemp in it from Beach bum tanning cause i love the smell but that's not where i tan at. I need a tan now cause im sooo white but lately ive been working a lot so haven't had time but im going to start real soon! I'm excited! I use the stickers for my eyes so i dont get the goggle lines |

I tried the spray tanning 1 time and it was ok but it was sticky and didn't set for 24 hours it looked funny on my feet and around my ankles. I do airbrush tattoos and the alcohol took the tan off my hands pretty fast. I wouldn't do it again. |

Crystal Faces! I use it for tanning and as a daily moisturizer. It has dermadark which are kind of like bronzers but without the DHA. So it just kind of naturally makes your face darker. Iamtan.com is a great tanning forum, you can get a lot of great info from it! |

I tanned all winter every year when I lived in Alaska, it gets really depressing there in all the darkness:eek: I think Designer Skin is a great product line. There is one lotion ( I think Mood?) that has a silicone base that feels soooo smooth and silky on your skin. And it smells really good too. I dont tan now unless its outside, I basicly live on the beach so I have to get the highest spf I can to stop from getting too dark! Happy taning this summer everyone! Be safe! |

I love tanning! I worked at the best tanning salon EVER before I was married! My favorite lotions are: Intoxicating and Denim & Diamonds by Swedish Beauty; Spellbound by Designer Skin; PotenC; Ionyx HOT....um I'll just stop there. Tanning extenders (body washes & body lotions) are essential for maintaining the life of your tan. The reason they are better than your Bath & Body Works type lotions is because they are specifically made for tanners. Tan Extenders contain a special formulation of ingredients to cancel out the stripping effect of the alcohol in the lotions. My favorite extenders are: Endless, and Daily ResCu body wash and lotion. P.S. EYEWEAR should NEVER be OPTIONAL!!!!!!! If you fail to protect your eyes, you are putting yourself at risk for loss of night vision; among several other things! |
You ladies are posting some good stuff...I knew this would be the making of a great thread! Not for everybody but for us tanners, lots of good info!:D |

Love the tan look although I have never achieved it my entire life. That's a long time ago if you look at my age. Never tanned deliberately but lived on a farm. Now my problem is that I always wore makeup on my face and down under my jaw-line. Never thought about taking care of my neck. Just the daily going in and out has done unbelievable damage to my neck skin. It is red and has a wrinkled paper bag look. So does my chest. Didn't take care of my fore-arms either. Now I have those ugly "liver" spots. Ugggg! Oh, to be young again. As mentioned before, it's the pits getting older. |
I have been tanning on and off for years. I love it in the winter after I work out. Sweaty, cold, sweaty. So far I have found a new lotion -Smile you're tan, with a big yellow smiley face. It smells decent and doesn't make me feel grimey afterward. I hate the tinglers and the pinkers - they cause your sub dermal capillaries to dialate and they make me itch. They make you look rosey (flushed) at first but they really upset my skin. I take an injectible medication which leaves nastey red spots on my butt, thighs, arms and belly -the tan helps cover them but the initial tanning process causes them to swell and become very red. I ALWAYS wear my goggles!!!! If there is a rubber band, take it off and lay the goggles over your eyes. I move mine in tiny increments throughout the tanning process. I just bought some that are individual globes, you just lay them over each eye. Most tanners offer 'blinkies' which are stick on, see through eye protectors. |
