I have gotten back into costing out meals (used to own small restaurant) and making sure to keep within budget for meals. Now I only get what I need at the grocery store instead of "shopping" freely. I have really cut back on driving all over town which helps with gas. I internet a lot of bills and shopping--saves on fuel, stamps and paper waste. Where I live I have to drive at least 25 miles for good stores plus pay a toll on bridge so shipping costs work out the same for using gas anymore. Can't wait for my veggie garden to kick in! Fresh homegrown tomatoes, peppers and strawberries. Next year I hope to have a bigger garden and a lot more veggies. I want to learn to can so I can have over winter months. |
Here's a great thread that we had going last fall with tons of ideas for saving money http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/off...-out-save.html |
Easy, I make my husband drive everywhere.:D |
Right now i take the train but still that is expensive imo when you take it every day. I also eat at home and rarely go out to eat anymore and also where i work we get 50% off food. Besides that idk i haven't been saving much which i should be, but i have been saving specifically for the dog's spays and neuter |
 Thanks for starting this thread. My dh replaced all the light bulbs inside and out last year with the new florescent ones. I was amazed at how it lowered our electric bill. I buy most of my groceries at Wal-Mart or Aldi's except for meat which I buy when it's on sale at other stores or buy in bulk at Sam's. I'm buying more store brands now which I never liked before. I've found that it just takes getting use to. I cook enough for two meals and that eliminates the urge to eat out. Today pork loin was on sale so I'm making barbecue with trimmings for supper and this weekend we'll have a sandwich plus I'll freeze the left overs. I don't run errands as often, try to do everything that needs to be done at one time. I'm also grooming Scooter now. |

We bought those new bulbs also. It takes a min or so until they are bright enough though. But they do help with energy costs. I had bought a car last Sept instead of another SUV. I really love the better gas mileage but I do miss the space my SUV had. |
