What a great thread! I am not working right now so I am not spending money on lunches which helps. We do not have good tap water so I do buy bottled water in the 5 gallon jugs but am planning on going back to using our Britta pitcher. I only go to starbucks once or twice a month now. I am stocking up for our daughter's graduation party now by buying stuff on sale. I also go to Costco once a month to buy items in bulk, it really helps. I used to use coupons but the grocery store I shop at doesn't take them. I also found the skin care products I like on Ebay for 50-60% off what I pay retail...how can they sell it so cheap? |
I plan on renting out my husband, selling the kids to the highest bidder and by doing this not only will it save me on gas going to and fro with the kids but I will make $ on the side renting the dear hubby out! |
With us both being students, we've been cutting back on certain things for awhile, before gas hit $4, but here are some of the things we do. - I take the traction control off my car when I'm driving and the roads are dry, this gets me over 300miles to the tank, usually it's only like 250ish with it. - My fiance's mom works at a health supply company, and they always have medical "chucks" that they are throwing out..there the exact same thing as pee-pads, I think we've only bought pee pads like 4 times since we've had Bella. - We cancelled our home phone. - Don't go out as much anymore, instead we'll invite people over, or just have movie nights with the two of us and Rocky and Bella. - Limiting trips, such as only buying my redbulls when I go to get gas because their at the gas station, instead of going out just to get redbull. - I don't get lunch everytime I'm at school all day, instead I'll just bring a bag of chexmix or something to hold me through the day, then I'll eat a bigger meal when I come home. I know it's not the healthiest thing to do, but that's better than getting fast food every day of the week. - We grocery shop at our parents houses. |

:lol tears...I really thought my meds were getting the best of me for a second there! |
I sometimes have my fiancé take me to work since its not far from the house. That way were not using to cars of gas to go to the same area every other day. We buy cheap and frozen food as well, but we make enough to have left overs the next night or next days lunch. |

I pack my lunch for work rather than eating out. I try to only buy products that are on sale. I shop at stores that reward me with cash coupons for the purchases I make. At one store I usually get about $40 in usable coupons every quarter. My biggest savings is switching from my local phone service to Vonage for my home business. I then scaled down my home line to nothing but call forwarding, then forwarded that line to my cell phone. I need the home line for the DSL and my security system With the changes in the phone service, I have saved close to $75/month. I'm just looking for ways that I can consolidate things thereby reducing expenses. It is hard though. |
We live like 15 miles from major shopping. I used to go every day or every other day and now we go like twice a week. Sadly it's cheaper to spend $5 for a jar of mayo at the little country store on the way home than waste the gas to drive to Target. |
