| I got a notice from the stinkin' IRS today that I owe almost $2,000 for 2006 I am so angry! When my husband died, he left me an IRA that I rolled over from the bank his family used to my new bank. The money never touched my hands! Now, the IRS is saying I owe taxes on PART of the money because they say I took some out???? NOT I was on hold 1 and 1/2 hours (I timed it) before I got a human. She said she'd refigure and send me something else in the mail. Now ---do I go ahead and send the money in, or do I wait to see what she's going to do? My notice says penalties and interest accrue until it's settled. I DO NOT trust any of 'em!

| It might pay to get help from a tax consultant. Don't know what we'd do without ours. Government sends so many notices about this or that, and we don't understand. We'd have paid the govenment $1,000's if we hadn't been able to take the info to our tax consultant/accountant. IRS makes mistakes but it's like pulling eye teeth to get them to back down. Getting ahold of a human to talk to is quite difficult these days. Makes for bad words.

| Oh my! If you pay it then wonder how hard it will be to pay you back once they get it corrected. I hate getting the mail there is always something like that coming up. Our state tax check got taken by surprise this week due to hubby's back child support. He had no idea. He got with child support and figured it up fromt he time he was court ordered to pay back in 1993. He missed payments way befor e I came along and here the IRS is taking all of it even though my name is on it too and I am not responsible for her. It has to be paid I guess. Her mother never knew he was behind. She will get a nice little unexpected check then...grrrrrr. It sucks to have to deal with stuff like that. Heather

| You need to contact the bank that your husband's IRA was in and get them to send you something that states the money was sent directly to your bank. Then you need to get something from the bank currently holding the IRA stating that you've never taken any money out of the account. Just a little free tax advice. |

| to the IRS! Even when they are wrong, they never say they are wrong. I think you can file a a form contesting the fees which automatically puts an extention on the account until they decide if and how much, but....be prepared for an audit b/c any time you challenge the IRS they make it very very difficult. On this one.....ID GIVE UM HELL GIRL! If more ppl stood up to them, maybe they would start to change some of their nasty ways. My hubby went thru 5 years of hell with them, but in the end HE WAS RIGHT!! They did every nasty trick in the book to make him not right but we fought and won in the end.Deffo consult a good tax accountant, they will be your best friend! So pull up your boot straps, fasten your seatbelt and Kick some IRS a**!

| Consider yourself lucky if that is all you have to pay. When my dad retired the person that was handling their IRA *stupid *itch* didn't tell them that any money they spent they would be taxed on so they bought a new car and a retirement cottage. Last year they had to pay in over 10k to the IRS for luxury tax. That much when they had only spent maybe 50k for everything. Now my dad has gone back to work part time to make up for the government taking such a huge chunk of their savings.![]() What's the point in retiring for your golden years if the governement wants to take them and make them your dark and bleak years.

| Based on what I've read here, I'm not sending the blood suckers *hit. I'm going to contact my bank Monday morning and get a statement from them that the money rolled directly over to them. (The bank I rolled from even delivered a cashier's check in PERSON to the bank I rolled to because I didn't want it in my hands at ALL) Then, I'll wait for whatever comes in the mail and get with the accountant who filled out my taxed for that year. Thanks, everybody. You made me feel so much better
