Ganglion Cyst....anyone have one? I have a ganglion cyst on the underside of my wrist its pretty good sized, but not huge...It is causing me pain and limits my movement in that hand so i think its time for the dr....has anyone else had experience with one of these? Im going to the DR. on Thursday to get it checked out, i was just wondering if i am all alone?! haha i like to hear other peoples experiences with things |
I do. They found it doing a x ray on my thumb, the doctor said it's no big deal that I could have been born with it........unless it bothers me there is nothing that needed to be done. Now, my sister had one, she used her wrist a lot at her job and had to have it remaoved, it was no big deal for her. Good Luck! Angie |
thanks, i was a cheerleader for 8 years so that could be it....but it has only developed in the last year and is getting bigger, i work with my hands so im thinking probably surgery |
I have one. I was told that they could remove it but it would probably come back. :( mine has seemed to kinda go away on it's own...well...I haven't seen it or had problems with it in a couple of years anyway...so I have to wonder what happened. but it was always VERY painful so I can relate!!! Let us know what the dr. says!!! |
I have one too, The first time it appeared I went to my Dr. he took a syringe and drew out the fluid in it. That helped a lot as far as the pain, he told me at the time that they usually come back, and that surgrey is the only way to get rid of it forever! Sure enough it did come back, not as bad. He also told me that sometimes they can go away on their own if they are bumped, so now when I notice that it is coming back, I apply pressure to the area and it always goes away before it becomes so large to cause the pain. I really don't know if that is the answer, but it works for mine! Mine is on my right inside of my wrist, I believe it is from using the mouse.! |

omg i know! i dont think i could handle slamming my hand with a huge book! haha |
My daughter had one on the palm of her hand between 2 fingers. It was on her right hand and very painful....she had it surgery on it to have it removed and she has been fine since. |

This does work! |
Yup mine was on the same spot as yours, i had it removed twice  it came back a third time, was going to have it removed again, when i accidently smacked my wrist against something and it disappeared... so the bible theory works ;) never came back after that :D </IMG> |
I had a small one on my finger and popped it 4 times before it went away. My sister had one the size of a baseball on her leg and had surgery to remove it. |
I had one a long time ago on the top of my left wrist. I was very young and played alot of sports so I had it removed because it was very painful for me. I had mine about 5 years before I had it removed so it had grown what the Doctor called "roots" which were up my arm. When it was removed I had my arm in a sling for over 2 months. Once it was removed I was fine and it has never returned. |

ouch! i have only had this for about 6-8 months so hopefully mine has no "roots" after surgery did yours return? just curious because that is the route i think i want to take |
Yep, I've got one and I've had it for so long that I can't remember when it showed up. Its on the back of my right hand above my wrist in the middle. It doesn't bother me either. Doctor said it would come back if they operated. My MIL offered to slam the bible on it, lol. |
Yep, I had one but mine was between the bones on my foot. It was over 30 years ago but I had it removed. I'm sure now it would be day surgery but way back then it was a couple of days stayin the hospital. Good luck. |
I had one on my left wrist that got irritated when I used it a lot. When I worked as a cashier and bagger at a grocery store. I got the same story, maybe it goes away, maybe it doesn't. I never had surgery or anything and it went away on it's own. And hasn't come back. |
i had a golf ball size one removed about twenty years ago and it has never come back. |
I had 2 removed on my lef hand 3 years apart nothing since than about 20 years ago. Sometimes they come back, sometimes not If it is not painfull, ans you can live with it I say wait it out it could go away by itself. |
my boyfriend had a a cyst on the top of his hand; I think from playing video games for too long. He was all freaked out about it; and we went to visit my mom. My mom knew exactly what it was and had a large cook book sitting on her counter...she told him "let me see that; lay your hand flat." and when he did she SLAMMED his hand with the book. It got rid of it. :D He said the book didn't really hurt because he had no idea it was coming. |
I have several on my left hand- wrist! I have noticed everyonce in a while in the last 2-3 months- I will get a "cramp" in that hand- I think it is a cysy, pressing on nerves- I am going to get it checked out! |
I am so surprised to see this thread! I just discoverd a cyst like that on my left wrist and it's been bothering me so I was going to my regular dr to get a referal to have it removed.. My husband also has one in the same spot, same wrist, but his is much larger than mine. After reading this I'm tempted just to go whack it with something and save myself the pain of the removal LOL -- j/k.. maybe.. lol! |

Every once in awhile it bothers me, but I press on it when it decides to flare up, and it never has gotten too bad again... |
I've had one twice on my left outside wrist and they got big both times. I went to the Dr. and he said they could remove it, but they could come back again. They went away on their own and knock on wood, it hasn't come back for years! Good luck! |
my mom used to get on on the top of her wrist. when it would pop up, shed get the dictionary and id slam it over it and then shed b fine for another year or two. lol |

Recently, I had a strange lump on my wrist. It did not hurt, but it did concern me. I learned I had a ganglion cyst. A Ganglion cyst — also known as a Bible cyst — is a tumor or swelling on the top of a joint or the covering of a tendon. It looks like a bony like bump on the hand or wrist. It may feel firm or spongy and is not harmful. In fact, my doctor told me not to worry about it, and that no treatment was necessary. They told me that if I did want it removed, they could remove it through surgery, but that it would probably come back. Bible cysts are very common in women, and usually occur on the back of the hand, at the wrist or even on the palm side of the hand. Other places they occur are on the outside of the knee or ankle or on the foot. The ganglion cyst got its nickname of “Bible cyst” because back in the old days, the cure for one was for the doctor to whack your wrist with a bible while you held your hand or wrist flat on a table. That cure is actually effective for the spongy ones, though I’d recommend you see your doctor if it worries you or is painful in any way. |
