Default 40+ Married Ladies

Did your husband take turning 40 bad???

My hubby is so upset about turning 40, which he will tomorrow. I think it is so funny, I turned 40 in January and it didn't bother me at all. He was the same way when he turned 30, but this 40 thing is worse. My sisters wanted to give him a dinner, but he has told us on more than one occasion that he doesn't want anything done for his birthday, he told me that I better not spend any money on him for his birthday. He said he doesn't even want my mom to cook for him, which she has done in the past a few times. I mean he is really upset about this, we are just supposed to act like it is a regular day. I bought him a card, that I will give him tomorrow but that is all. Just wanted to know if anyone else's husband acted this way when they turned 40.

LOL - my hubby was the same way - wanted no acknowlegement at all. Friends wanted to do big parties for him at 30 and 40 both and I had to say no both times. 50 was much better. He's mellowed so much in the last few years. Thank goodness.

I hope it gets better, he just takes these birthdays so bad. He just wants to do his normal routine and doesn't want anyone to tell him Happy Birthday.

Well, he isnt 40 yet, but 30 was a pain enough! He was depressed for a good month or 2, and acted like he was turning 80. He was suddenly achey and whiny about everything.
Not looking forward to him turning 40.

I gave mine a small b-day party w/just close friends! I had secretly had pictures made of our boys w/our black gelding that we have had since we dated & then one of me w/his other fave roping horse & then had them framed in cypress-he actually cried when he saw them so even if no party maybe you could have something done special for him.

Cake birthdays

Not to worry! It's just a number. My DH turns 60 this year. I turned 55 last year and i am loving it!! I can get discounts when i shop and free cokes at McDonalds! I also order off the senior menu and save money! I love having birthdays!! It's better than the alternative.
Just remember, this is not a dress rehearsal!! Take every day and enjoy it to the max. I love the saying, "life is like a roll of toilet paper...the closer to the end, the faster it goes."
Be thankful for your health and enjoy your special day!!
God Bless!

Totally agree
Hubby didn't have a problem with turning 40 but he bought a Harley motorcycle in is late 30's
That's okay though, I turned around and bought one too! No point in letting him have all the fun

Wishing you and your Husband a Happy Birthday!!!
For me turning 40 was just another day. But, my DH woke up on his 40th birthday and said "Well, today I am officially half dead!" I was in total shock to say the least. His explanation for his statement to me was, "Well, most people don't live past the age of 80..." Men...Gotta love em!

He's doing better than I thought...I think he just wants the day to go by without anyone saying anything. I told him Happy Birthday last night right after midnight and then our son told him Happy Birthday this morning. Of course he got his fill of yorkie kisses from all 5 of our babies this morning, they like to attack him when he's asleep. It was a tongue fest....sorry didn't have my camera ready.

Anyway we are going to lunch, but that's not any different than any other day, other than that he said he just wants to go to the gym after work like always, come home and watch tv like every other day, nothing special. Totally opposite from me...I love, love birthdays. My sisters, my son and my husband had a surprise birthday party for my 40th in January, it was awesome, I was totally surprised, didn't have a clue at all.

I gave my hubby a suprise 40th bday. He wasn't phased by turning 40 and loved the party. I made a big "scrapping" collage that hung on a sheet on the wall...it was kind of like this is your life jeffrey p. kolb! We had a lot of out of town people that couldn't be there that I recorded their greetings from the phone to play for him! Maybe he will end up enjoying the day! Hoping so! Have a good one!
