Anyone have Front Loaders (Washer/Dryer) We are getting a Front Loader Washer and Dryer. All I know is that I want the Cherry Red Color, but everything is so high tech, I don't even know where to begin.... Any Experience to Share...please :D |
I have the Whirlpool Duet - it's 3 years old. Works great getting the clothes clean and spins them almost dry. My only complaint is that the washer smells moldy no matter how much you clean it or leave it open to dry. My mom has 10 year old Maytag Neptunes that are still working great! |
I have a front-loading washer and dryer, but I don't know anything technical about them except that I have to buy special detergent (HE). They work great though and I love the fancy digital dial. :D Sorry I'm no help! Good luck! |
I've had a front loader washer/dryer for about 4 yrs now & Love it! The washer doesn't use as much water, but the cycle turns the clothes over & over so that your clothes are cleaned appropriately & I think are not as harsh on your garments. I also enjoy the tops as counter space. :p They now have gorgeous colors! |
I envy you being able to get those kind of Washer & Dryers. :) My small "laundry closet" as I call it, would not be big enough for those kind. I love the blue color in them. Please posts pics if you get your Cherry Red color ones. I could look at them and drool and dream. :dribble: :dreaming: |
I am jealous! I want the same one in red. IMO Frontloaders are the best. I had one for years. Hoping to get another soon. I think they clean better.:D |
we have front loaders and LOVE them!! I think you will be very happy :) |
My sister has them and I would never get one...they take FOREVER to wash and I don't feel like the clothes get a clean. I swear it takes 1 hour to wash one load of clothes. Luckily she put her old washer and drying in the garage so there is another option....I go over there and use the ones outside! I'm kind of glad she had them first because now I know I don't like them. |

I have mine a year now...glad I spent the $$ |
I love my front loaders. I can get laundry done so much quicker--less loads since you can wash bigger loads. I did notice the moldy smell...could never figure out where it was coming from. I have the 2 drawer stands. If you get them, make sure you get the taller ones! Our soap bottles are taller than european sizes for tallness of the drawers. Quote:

My casual wash cycle takes 40 minutes? |
I've had the Neptune front loaders for years now...sold our first set with the Florida house and bought another set for the lake house. I did buy the drawer stands with this set but I didn't like them...they have enough play in them to let everything jiggle around on the spin cycle and I didn't like it. So, I returned them and my husband built an oak platform for them to set on. I do love the front loaders and, depending on the cycle you use, they don't take any longer to wash than a regular washer. Besides...the longer you wash and rinse the cleaner your clothes get and with no aggitator it doesn't damage your clothes. Unless of course you catch something in the door when you close it and it twists a hole in it...but...I wouldn't know anything about that! ;) |
we have a Matag! I don't know really- it does take a LONG time it seems- ours is supopose to weigh the load and adjust the time to the weight- but I don't really think it does! I think what i like best is not having to clear the top off! I did not buy it and probably would have not paid that much for a washer! |
I have the maytag neptune front loaders. I have had them about 7 yrs and never have had any problems. They are easier on your clothes and I think they get your clothes cleaner. It does take about 45 minutes to go through a wash cycle. |

My dad & step-mom have them. I do think they take a little longer...but IMO they clean better than regular washers. My dad's greasy work clothes (he's a mechanic) get clean as new in one regular wash cycle ?? Oh, BTW, they are about 3-year-old Neptunes as well... |
I've been wanting a set of those for a couple of years now. When we were at Home Depot Saturday they had those in black, red or turquoise. Just beautiful! I have a 6year old maytag washer and a 6 year old Kenmore dryer, so it looks like it's going to be many more years before they are goners. :( |
I'm on my second front loader. The first was a Frigidaire which only lasted a few years and now I have a Whirlpool. I do like it because of the amount of clothes that can fit into one load. I've never noticed a moldy smell but I do dry out the outer rubber lip everytime I'm done. My only suggestion would be to get the stand. Where mine is located I cannot raise it so I have to literally get on my knees to unload it. Good Luck.....hope you enjoy it! |
I have a maytag front loader, wonderful...gets the pee pads spotless...where the top loader I had to use bleach and wash them twice... I love it! |

We had a new top loader Kitchen-Aide top of the line, turned out to be a real lemon, during its warranty had many repairs done, finally being so discouraged with it, pushed it aside and junked it. This machine didn't have that much use and the store wouldn't take it back. I had to buy a replacement, right away it started leaking and the repair technician had to replace the transmission with a new one :( the very next day it did the same thing leaking (the technician said that there was a problem with the transmissions and that it is an on going problem with many of the newer top loaders) luckily we was able to get our money refunded on this machine. A month ago we purchased the front loader (4.0 cu.ct. 10-cycle) larger model washer of the whirlpool duet and absolutely love it, I use far less detergent (HE brand, this is very important, we also was told that if we used other detergents it could and most likely would void the warranty) noticed on our recent water bill being much lower, being on propane am sure we will notice a difference on that bill too :) even Jack commented how much whiter our whites are. I will eventually get the drier to match after we get moved. I will say, I did just take out the extended warranty yesterday before my 30 days was up to get it, only because of my past experience with the Kichen Aide and also the Sears Kenmore that were lemons :( Sadly to say things just aren't made like they use to be. Years past I wouldn't spend the extra money on extended warranties but not today, for us they are a must. Good luck on your choice of machines. Patti and Jack |
The GE front loaders are awesome! My whites are whiter and I can wash AND dry a ton of denim at once! It seems like almost every type of laundry detergent has a 2x concentrated for front loaders so I'm sure you can stick with your fave. I really like mine. I also don't notice a difference in wash times unles I add an extra rince cycle to my load. And the steam option works so nice for monday mornings (or any morning) you dont want to iron!:D |

I have the LG front loading washer and dryer for 4 yrs. now.. The moldy smell comes from the rubber seal that incases the front opening. You have to get in there every couple of weeks and clean the inside of the rubber liner. Water gets trapped in there. I use the sanitary cylce with some bleach and detergent and an old towel. This does the trick. Love it. |
Man - I have opened a can of worms - between reading all your wonderful responses and going online to read reviews - I am so torn.... What's this HE detergent? hmmm...I am not liking the sound of that  I use ONLY detergent that is Free of Dies and Fragrance, etc... I like the LG b/c isn't red, I have read both good and bad. The Whirlpool duets are nice too, but that HE thing doesn't sound friendly. My brain is foggy :p |

The HE is very friendly, don't be frightened by it :) :) I love getting lower water, and propane bills, and amazed at how much whiter and cleaner everything is, glad we switched. Patti and Jack |
Wouldnt do it again... I have the LG w/d MILDEW smell here too!!! I HATE IT. Home Depot carries a product (right there with the front loaders) called Ahhhhh Fresh!! They work at getting the mildew smell out. If I had to do over again, I would get the new w/d with no aggetator (sp?) I dont care for my front loaders AT ALL... :thumbdown |

I think we are going to go for the Cherry Red Samsung ones :D |
I've had the Kenmore front loader for a couple years and very happy with it. We use the Tide HE (High Efficiency) detergent which is much less suds. The washer cleans much better than a top load washer and is much easier on clothes. We had a Kenmore top loader without agitator about a week, I didn't like it at all and replaced it with the front loader. |
