1st encounter with a PITT Bull at my new apt Everything is fine but man ....I was walking the girls yesterday and always keep an eagle eye out for loose dogs - most people here are very good about leashes but the other day - a BIG BLACK Pitt Bull spotted us at the same time I spotted her (her name was Alley) she had NO LEASH ON. She flew across the street to get at Chanel and Cheri and did NOT have a happy "I want to play' face.....She had that 'I'm gonna get you face' on. I scooped the girls up FAST and held them high up and tight across my chest and just turned my back to the charging dog (who's 'person' was running far behind yelling her name) and not making much progress. by the time the lady caught up with the pitt - she'd been jumping me trying to get to the girls - I just stood perfectly still and kept turning so my back was to her ....but MAN - I was just WAITING for that BITE outta my butt or arm :( - but ...thank God - she didn't but - she sure was trying to knock me down .....and yes I RATTED that woman out to the apartments. I don't know if she was a resident or visitor - but NO big dog should be running around unleashed. My neighbors next door have the sweetest pitt. (2 guys and very hot lol) ! His name is 'Snake' :D I was terrified at first but I've now been around him enough to see he is very non agressive and a big sweetie..... I still don't really let the girls around him - especially since Chanel barked RIGHT IN HIS FACE and scared him. We have 'distance' meets - but thats all. When I hang out with the guys - I put the girls in the apartment - but he's a very nice well mannered pitt. That lady with the black pitt should have been fined for letting her dog run free -- and IF I had the chance - a smack upside her head  for letting her dog go leash-less - if I hadn't seen it coming I could easily have a tragedy :( and I would NOT recover from something like that.:( :( :( :( Anyway - I just wanted to share it - what could have been really bad turned out ok - I think it was me standing perfectly still and not moving that saved the girls. If I'd have reacted or acted scared - I really thinlk 'Alley' would have started biting....I didn't actually feel scared till I got back to the apartment.....then I was pissed - because of that - the girls had NO walk that night. |
OMG, V That had to be sp scary:( So Happy you and the girls are ok..HUGS |
ps - when I called my apartment manager - she was really upset - She asked if I'm the woman with the 2 cute dogs out at 7:30 am and I said yes - She asked me - were they wearing DRESSES ? I told her yes they were harness dresses (by Connie) and if needed I can lift them up in the air by their leashes ....they're that well made LOL then I said - "so you can see why I'm upset right ? ....2 small dogs in dresses VS a huge charging Pitt Bull - you DO see what the outcome could have been right ?" and she said yes and would check to see who has a pitt by that name living here and make sure they have the dog leashed at all times. I really hope this gets followed up on. I'm thinking of getting some mace to attach to my wrist when we go for walks - anyone know where I can find that ? |
 V, I'm thankful none of you were hurt! I'm terrified of unpredictible dogs that I don't know. My DIL always tells me, don't look at them, don't run, just keep walking! That just isn't easy when you know that vicious thing is behind you and you're expecting to feel those teeth at any second!! You certainly did the right thing reporting it. I can't understand how people can ignore rules ... do they think they are made just because someone is sitting around bored and decides to make them?? ;) |
Wow, that's scary. Thank God you saw him first and reacted quickly. That was very brave of you. I'll bet your spy girls will be telling all the neighbor dogs about how their alpha mama saved them from a mean ol' pit bull. |

and Alaska dad - no hero here - it was sheer determination - That dog was NOT going to get my girls and if I had to take the bites... I was ready - it hit me later on how bad it could have been......my grandmas poodle was mauled & killed right in front of her eyes years ago and there's no way I could survive that after losing my husband....the girls are all I have left and protective instinct took over |
Oh wow what a scare....and what a great fast acting mommy you are... |

that was kind of scary and you're right on when you said "you're expecting to feel those teeth at any second" - I WAS !! I kept muttering 'get your dog lady - get your dog lady" but that's about all I could muster LOL....I swear - she had NO control over her dog - - she was dragging her by the collar but the dog kept trying to get 'back' to my girls. |
Oh V, I'm so glad that you and the girls are ok. You did the right thing by not running with them. You are so brave. I hope the manager follows up with the owner. |
V - Thank God you and the double C's are all right! God, I'm so scared of pitts! It sounds like the manager is going to follow thru with this. I hope so. You should be able to walk Channel and Cherie whenever you want to without fear from big dogs. Take care, girlfriend! |
OMG, V, my heart was in my throat reading your post! So glad you and the girls didn't get hurt! That happened to me once when I had just 2 babies, now that I have 3 I don't dare take them out alone:( |

after reading Bettyannes post about Mace in a holster :D - I can just see it. Me & my gun holster walking the girls in their frilly dresses - maybe I should wear boots AND a cowboy hat ??? :D :D that's quite the image LOL I think I'll try for something that attaches to my wrist - my hands were very occupied holding the girls but if something is on your wrist maybe it's easier to get to ??? But thank you B - I'm headed to Carter Country for some mace tommorrow ! |

Having 2 is way easier to pick up than 3 so I do see your point. If I had three dogs I probably would have just crushed them to me - The girls werent scared one bit - but then - I didn't do any yelling either - I hardly spoke to the woman - I just waited till I couldn't see them any longer then carried the girls home. |

my neighbors are really good with their pitt - but at the same time - I keep a wary distance when I have the girls with me - no matter how nice they SAY the dog is - you just never know |

i'm glad everything is okay! the same type of thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago.. me and kevin were walking Parker,Star, and Lily in our neighborhood and this guy did not have his pitt on a leash. the guy was working by his gate and when the dog saw us he charged passed him to run to us.. we scooped up all the dogs and the guy was just running behind the dog yelling rider no! but that didn't stop him.. THANK GOD he was a non aggressive pit but still people need to control their big dogs. i don't care what breed they are |
OMG!!! I am So glad it turned out so well for you,, HAD to scare the bejeebizz outta you!!! DANG! sounds like you did just the right thing for that dog,, evidently,,and I tell ya, you ARE in TX,, you CAN get your CHL to protect you and yours too,, especially living in Houston! Bless Your Heart!!! surely hope the manager follows up on that for sure!!! I'm so glad it went as well as it did,, and the pitt was Growling? while jumping on ya?? Geesh!! i tell ya,, I think EVERYONE, in metropolitan areas need to keep their pets on a leash,, ALL dogs,, and Certainly feel they should CLEAN up after them,,, best of luck with your neighbors and dogs!:aimeeyork |

and what's a CHL ??? I'm thinkin it stands for Can Handle Lunatics ? :D :D cause I know I can ! |
Oh my goodness V, that would have scared the ~ you know what ~ out of me. I am always afraid when I take these guys out for walks and more so for my Penelope, because she is bigger than the others, but she is very protective and if something should give her reason .... she wouldn't think twice of protecting the other dogs and me! |
So glad you and the girls are okay. What a scary experience. I live near a small town and there have been so many reports on pittbulls in the paper. I don't know what's going on in town. Now I live in the country and I'm still scared to walk the babies..coyotes, coydogs, hawks...I just walk them in the yard. You're wise never to let your guard down with any large dog, especially those with aggressive tendencies. Ya just never know. |
OMG V I am so glad that you and the girls are OK. What an experience....and you did the right thing picking up the girls high and turning your back on the Pit and boy were you brave....it's amazing what you are able do to protect these babies of ours. Typing this to you I think I could never of done that but boy once you are put into a situation like that your mom and protective instincts just snap into place real quick. It's like the mother bear protecting her cubs.;) That's why I have never taken Izz to a doggie park - I'm petrified of something like that happening. I'm so glad you guys are all OK and that you reported this to the management. Let's just hope that she follows through on taking care of this situation. Be safe and kiss the Double Cs for us..hehehe.:D |
I'm so glad everything is okay and the girls are unharmed. You acted fast! That almost happened to me one day. I was walking the girls and there was like a rottweiler or some big dog that was eyeing my girls and looking mean. The owner had it on the leash but was very petite and looked weak like the dog could pull her so i still picked the girls up anyway and kept walking. I take no chances lol |

I am so glad you and the girls are OK! I know exactly how you were feeling this morning. Just the site of that dog headed your way unleashed must have sent your heart racing. Let's hope that's the last encounter you have with that dog! |
V, that was scary just reading it! I'm glad that you and the girls are unharmed. In an area like that, I believe that all dogs should be kept on leashes. There is a woman around here...she's kinda loopy - if ya know what I mean - ... anyway. She has like 4 or 5 dogs. Ranging in sizes from a Chi to a Mastiff. In the middle there is this dog, she's some kind of fluffy mix...no idea what breed she is, named Angel. Angel walks without a leash, and there isn't a time I walk past her where Angel doesnt come running after Tucker. It scares the CRAP out of me, but she always goes back to her owner before she gets to me. |
All big dogs that can do damage should be muzzled when they are being walked. Glad you and the girls were ok V. I had a bit of a run in this morning with a damn rottie that bit me. |
Im so glad you and the girls are ok! I have said this story before but I do not trust pitts at all after what I saw with my own 2 eyes...walking my cousins chi in the park, big pitt starts running over and it ended with the pitt walking in circles with my cousins puppy in his mouth:( all in front of children). Im sorry if I offend anyone here but I will never trust a pitt around my kids or dogs. |
Villette, I am so glad you are all okay! What a scary experience! You can get pepper spray is at Walgreens and also Wal-Mart. Do they actually sell mace anywhere? I imagine it would be more effective than the pepper spray, but I have never seen it in the stores. You can get those curly plastic (like a small phone cord) bracelet thingys at Walmart in the jewelry section. That would be good to put the mace/pepper spray on. I finally bought some myself after reading some of the stories on here. |
