Villette I can't imagine how scary that was for you. Having 4 now I don't think I will ever walk all 4 together as I could not grab all in a second. Also, my pom is a barker and seems to set off big dogs. When are people going to reealize they donot have the control they think they do over these dogs, not to mention they could get hit by a car running loose. So glad you and the girls are all ok. |

OMGosh, Villette! I'm so glad to hear that you and your sweeties are okay and not attacked! Darn those people who let their dogs off leash! I don't know how you and Cheri and Chanel were able to stay calm! If it happened to me, I'm sure both my dogs would be growling and barking! Thank goodness you saw the pit in time to get your girls picked up. Those dogs can sneak up on a person without warning! I've had some close calls with Maddie and have learned not to trust ANY big dog near my girls, even if the owner says their dog wouldn't hurt a flea. Pits aren't allowed in my city and I'm thankful for that. Hugs to you and kisses to the girls! I'm so relieved that you weren't hurt! |
Gawd! im v sorry for your bad experience too. I cant imagine, but that mama bear instinct kicked in and I do know that feeling. Im having a terrible time with hawks, but theres nobody to fix that prob! :( My hubby is a victim of a double pit attack! They are ruthless when they go, instinct in them is to KILL not just harm! So I would aim both barrels at that irresponsible pet owner and let it serve as notice to all the other "bad pet parents" that we can and will fight back for the sake of all the animals!Breaks my heart to see an animal suffer b/c their parents cant get their sh** together enuff to have a happy, safe, well balanced dog wether its large or small! Kudos to your quick action and GL in the fight! Elizabeth Duncan and Piper |
Oh V I'm so glad you and the girls came out of that frightening experience ok. That could have been a disaster if you had not kept your head. It's amazing how cool ( on the outside only I'm sure) you were. Your heart must have been beating 100mi an hour. People are just plain DUMB or uncaring what happens to their pet or other's. I am glad your apt. complex is concerned and will look into the matter. I reported two pits loose in my development, however they did not charge at me, this time anyhow. I am waiting to hear from the board as well. Mace is a good idea for your walks. You can't be too carefull these days with so many unfit owner's not caring about their dogs going after someone. The all seem to think, NOT MY DOG! The really sad part is they are not protecing their own pet from harm. If that dog bit you or one of your babies, bye bye to it. How sad that it's owner did not protect it's safety and yours. Dumb people can't be educated I guess or just don't want too. Be safe V. |

Pepper spay works!! also if notheing else- take an box, bottle of pepper- you can open fast-dogs do not like pepper! |
omg v!!!!! im so glad you girls are all ok.. what a nighmare!!! i would of just died...and lexi would of tried to fight back in my arms.. im just picturing it now... thank god .... he was surely with you. |
V...I'm so glad that you and the girls were unharmed! I would have called the police department and had a report filed. She should get into trouble for not having her dog on a leash. Thank God for angels...cause He definitely sent them your way! |
I am so glad you are all ok! |
I bet your knees where shaking by the time you got back, huh ? How scary ! We dont have pits around here but plenty of other big dogs and it just scares the heck out of me, does not help Rosi and Apollo act like idiots when they see a big dog, they try charging them barking and screeching their fool heads off... very embarrassing....thank god most keep theirs leashed, exept if occationally gets one away or is lost. It is so hard to pick two up when and they are struggeling to get down ... glad you girls did not get hurt. Get some pepperspray ! And glad you reported them ! |
I'm glad everything turned out ok!!!! I will say this...as someone that owns a property management company, I know that pitts, dobermans, rotts, chows and mixes of those breeds are almost ALWAYS banned from apartments because insurance will not cover the apartment complex with those types of dogs. I have not read the rest of the thread so I am not sure what the apt. complex said about this dog...but I would be very surprised if they are even supposed to be there! |
I'm glad you and the girls are ok!! You definitly handled it well, I would've probably panicked and started running around screaming like an idiot! Keep us posted on what happens with the owner. That's one thing I'll never understand is why people will allow an aggressive dog to be out with out a leash! |
You know what I would get? A stun gun. you can go on EBAY and for about $40 you can get a 900,000 volt stun gun smaller than a cell phone. It's in a little black case like a cellphone and you don't even have to take it out of its case to use it. Sometimes mace just doesn't work but I guarantee you, this kind of stun gun would! I've been eyeballing them here recently and plan to buy me and my two daughters one. They are perfect, people think they are cell phones and would never know what it was until its too late. |
Wow, I am glad that you and the girls are all right. Scary. I had a similar situation when I lived in New Orleans. I was walking my neighbor's dog back from a play date with TJ. The people across the street had a meaner than hell pit bull. The kids opened the gate as I was across the street, and out she charged. I had to scoop up a 55 lb Akita, and hold him over my head. That dog tore my shirt, and ripped my pants. I was terrified, and told the kids they had 3 seconds to get the dog under control before I started to fight back. They did so, and I scooted out of there, still carrying the dog over my head (that must have been a sight.) So I can empathize with the situation. Glad you spoke up about it. Not all pits or pit mixes are bad dogs, but all still have an genetic propensity for dog on dog aggression. I keep a very close eye on TJ when he is playing with other dogs, or meeting them for the first time. So far, no issues. He just growls and gets huffy if he does not like a dog...or if someone gets up in Stanford's face! |
OMG...Thank god you and the girls are alright! How scary!! I carry a whistle when I walk with my girls by myself. Last summer I was walking the girls by myself and a neighbors doberman was outside by himself and charged us....I almost wet my pants..I was so scared. I scooped up the girls and turned my back on him and blew my whistle. I cringed waiting for that first bite. His owner came running out of her house apologizing, saying she didn't know how he got out. I don't walk that way by myself anymore. |
V I am so glad that the girls and you are ok from that very scary encounter. :aimeeyork Getting pepper spray is a really good idea. Even for you to have without the girls. My son's friend almost got mugged in a parking garage as she got out of her car and she pepper sprayed the guy and he ran off. So I think you should carry that with you at ALL times. I can't understand why that woman would not have had her dog on a leash. P.S. I'm glad your BUTT is still intact. :D |
OH NO V!!! I am sooo sorry to hear about this!! I hope something is done because that is just wrong on the owners part! I would definitely look into getting some little cans of pepper spray or mace and make sure you have one on you at all times. It is so frightening to have a large dog run at you! Those poor girls!!! I am just glad that you were all okay!! I agree, that any dog (big or small) can cause damage....I know when Katelyn was younger, a friends rat terrier bit her (hard) and was intent on doing more if I hadn't of knocked him off of her. And this was a dog that had been around Katelyn lots of times too! And just last week, we took Mojo and LG to visit some friends that had their two big dogs w/ them (one is a fat lazy lab)...all the dogs got along and later in the afternoon, Mojo was laying by my fat and the fat lab, for some reason, snapped at him and had his little head in her mouth (thank the good Lord that she didn't bite down on him).....I don't know how long or what happened, all I remember is her growl, and seeing Mojo in her mouth and then Mojo in my arms. I'm saying....any dog, even the ones you know, can do damage too...it is scary to even think about it!! I think we all need to invest in some mace!!!! |
