I was really glad that I had done that when I saw how hard they were struggling sometimes! Yea..i guess i am just going to apply to mine and a bunch in the city..that is what my mom told me to do. She said they are all the same, you all have to take the nursing test, instead of waiting around and wasting time i guess i have to hurry!! lol

Farmingdale, their nursing program is really good but for me they only offer the assoc nursing degree, the 4 yr is only offered to freshman so i think i will have to switch

My husband has just applied to the RN program here in Las Vegas, Nevada. We have not gotten the final word on whether he has gotten in yet or not. He is going for his associates right now and until he gets in the program he will take classes towards his bachelors. If he gets in next semester like we are hoping then he will finish the bachelors another time. You should look at the school's catalog where you are attending. It will tell you what the pre reqs are. It should tell you the plan. I followed the school's list to a tee when I signed my husband up for his classes. Every school requires different levels of Math, Chemistry, and general education courses.

Well, one thing about nursing is that it's something you'll always be able to do anywhere you go. And there's just so many different types of nursing or different places to work. I went to esthetician school (after I'd been working full time as an ICU nurse for about 6 or 7 yrs) and I got jobs left and right even before I graduated b/c of my nursing degree (course, they were in medical skin care clinics and I really only wanted to do makeup, not deal with bad skin )....and being a personal trainer which I love doing, being an RN really ups your credibility. I worked for a few years as medical-legal consultant and made $150 an hour and I could work as much as I wanted; I did most of it at home. So, it's just so diverse.
If you get bored, you could be a travelling nurse and go lots of different place and work at different hospitals all the time too.

When I graduated with a my major in German, Spanish, and minor in French and Italian, it wasn't like it is now....at that time, really the only places you'd be able to use it and be paid for it would have been the UN....now, there's so many job opportunities for people who can translate.....but I'm still glad that I got my RN...and I only did that b/c I really wanted to go to med school, and knew I'd have to pay for it myself (since my dad had just finished putting me thru a private 4 yr university )......but I liked nursing so much and stuck with it. You'll never regret it I'm sure of that!

She's right....after you've been out of school for awhile, NOBODY's ever going to even look or care where you went to school. People kind of have opinions esp about any local school you go to if you go to work in the local hospitals that you train in....just b/c. Sometimes it's good, but most of the time, they just kind of treat you like you're still a student....that will all go away after a year or so. So it really doesn't matter where you go to school...as long as they're accredited and you learn what you need to, it won't make a bit of diff. And the State Boards aren't any easier regardless of where you go to school, LOL .

I am wanting to become an RN as well but am soooooooooo lost!! I was thinking of going into a program such as Maric, well we have it out here in CA, that is a quick kind of program but very expensive, anyone had any experience with that? I was wanting to do that and just pay off my loans later....

It might now matter what school you go to, but it does matter, in many instances, whether it is an associate degree or bachelors degree program. Trust me when I say that you will want your bachelors, if you stay in nursing

I think i will like it...well i hope i do. Thank you so much, you gave me a lot of advice and ideas I am excited but know i have a long road ahead of me Oh and prob. no social life lol except my dogs, but they stick by me no matter what

Thnx, yes i do plan on getting my bachelors...i am just trying to get into a program first My mom got her assoc. and she is still doing well, she told me to get my bachelors and i want to do the best so no matter what it takes i will do it. She only got her assoc. cause it was such a struggle for her, she was already a nurse in Guatemala, her country, practically a doctor! She knew everything there, delivered babies, etc. but had to start all over here and cause of the language barrier it was a struggle to study in english but she did it and im proud of her. And i should be able to do better cause im from here so i have no excuse lol

Thank you so much, you are the sweetest!!! Hopefully i can make a lot of ppl feel better and bring smiles to their faces. It is quite a trip but im used to it now and i don't go every day so that's pretty good. But it is expensive so thats why im thinking of switching to the city or getting a car
